SAGE WAS ALREADY waiting in the coffee shop when I arrived, drinking something cold and green. I ordered myself a hot cup of coffee and then joined her.
“Thanks for meeting me,” I said, noticing she looked a little anxious.
Her smile was strained. “Yeah. Of course.”
“What is that?” I asked, nodding toward her drink.
“Matcha Tea.”
I grimaced.
“It’s actually very good with coconut milk.”
“I’ll take your word for it.” Staring at her, I decided to get right down to it. I took a sip of my coffee and then glanced around to make sure nobody was within earshot. Fortunately, the couple next to us had left as soon as I’d sat down. “Look, I think I might have some explaining to do.”
