“and you're sure you don't know how it happened?”raven asked as we made our way to our regular table to sit down “no raven I don't, the plant just you know caught fire or something” “That's weird”we both sat down and began eating. The next thing, a cupcake came flying straight to my face and laughter echoes in the cafeteria, I wiped the cake out of my face to see Erica laughing “I swear it was an accident, Anara,”she said before facing her friends. no it wasn't. “Why the hell did you do that!”raven yelled, but her voice sounded faint, I was stuck in my head, I have had enough. Shadows sprawled from under the table, fast, the lights started flickering . Erica stepped back and slipped. She screamed as her feet tangled in darkness that shouldn't have been there. I stood up. The shadows at my feet rose with me, tall, stretching behind me like wings. Everyone saw it. The shadows curled protectively behind me like it was alive. As quickly as it came, it receded back into me, into my skin. Letting go of Erica. The lights flicked back on. Deep inside my head, I heard his voice “mmh, that's my girl”That was the first time I heard his voice in a while. “anara”raven called out. I picked up my bag and ran to the toilet. What the hell was that? I didn't understand the rage that filled me and it scared me. I didn't want to be here. I pulled out my phone from my bag and dialed Evelyn's number. “Anara, how are you?” tears build in my eyes. “I'm not fine evenly, I'm not fine” “I'll be there soon”and with that she ended the call. About an hour later, the door creaked open and raven came in “I've been looking for you”I didn't say anything “your aunt's here”I stood up “I'm sorry”I say and leave. I entered the principal's office and immediately ran to hug Evelyn. “we're going home okay?”I nod “anara”the principal called and I pulled away from Evelyn’s embrace. “yes” “What do you know about those shadows?” “I don't know anything” “Have you been seeing them?” “no, today was the first encounter”I lied, if there's anything I remembered my mum saying it was “don't ever trust anybody” “I heard about the plant incident, if there's something you're hiding tell us, we'll help you” “I don't know anything” “Okay then, it's just a two day break and I'm letting you off the hook cause you kind of harmed Erica”ofcourse. “thank you”and we left. ************************ Lucien. Anara. Ever since the day I drank from her, it's been driving me crazy and I know if I use the desire in me now to drink again, she'll die, so will I. She doesn't know her full potential yet, she doesn't know we're bonded. She has no clue. “lucien!”I heard my name echo from the hallways, I rolled my eyes recognizing the voice, Silas, my brother. Not biological though. “in my room!”I yelled and in a split second he was in here. “Why did it take you so long to reach out to me once you were awake?” he said as he clapped his hand on my shoulder, I gripped him back in a hard, warriors embrace. “I reached out as soon as I got out, you've just been busy” “You have no idea how happy I am that you're back. I thought you were gone brother” “such low expectations silas” “I looked into every library, spoke to every witch I could. Where on earth did you find a witch from the Morwyn line?” “Morwyn line? It was an ashveil witch who let me out” “an ordinary ashevil witch can't break that curse lucien, there's more to this” “obviously, she's alot” “how did it even happen?” “I saw her alot in my dreams, she's a dark witch, I think she's also a nyxborn. It was her eighteenth birthday and as fate had predicted she ended up were I was sealed” “Did you drink from her?” “I did” “that means —” “we're bonded, I know” “people are out to kill you lucien and if they hear of this which I know they will, they'll kill her and that means you also die” “They can't kill me silas. I am Lucien Thorne, the last of my kind. I have vortigern's blood in my veins. I am the hell that they'll all burn in!” I said with a smirk. “we need to take her away, she needs to be with us” “I know” “has she seen you?” “not fully”. “whatever, we need to head back lucien, there's more to the curse, more we need to know, she needs to unlock her powers and help you fight” “she doesn't understand that yet, she's not willing” “we're not going to give her a choice!” “I know what I'm doing, silas.” “I trust you completely, Lucien, but we don't have much time left. She's not safe here” “we'll be home soon, in the meantime go keep the place In order and let them know their king is back” “I will, be careful” “thank you silas” “you're my brother lucien, I'd give my life for you”I pat his shoulder “I'm proud of you, you didn't let me down one bit”he smiled at me and left. She's home. She walks into her home, she feels relived, she feels at ease. Tosses her bag to the floor. Kicks off her shoes. Grumbles under her breath about school. And I just watch. From the mirror. From the corner of the room where shadows gather thicker than they should. From the cold breath of air that slips past her neck and makes her pause, just for a second. “You feel me, don’t you, little witch?”I smirked, she's always so startled whenever she hears me. Her blood hums. I can taste it across the distance — ancient, dark, powerful. She moves through her room with the unawareness of a flame walking through dry forest. She is so close to unraveling. i linger in her reflection, the barest outline of a man — tall, still, waiting. She doesn’t see me. Not yet. But her hand pauses as she reaches for the closet door. Her fingers twitch. Her breath catches. “Yes. That’s it. Feel me”. She shivers. Pulls her hand away like she touched ice. I smile in the dark. She’s not ready. But soon, she will be. And when she finally speaks my name? There will be no going back.
