We had arrived back at my school.
“Be good , okay? If there's anything give me a call” Evelyn said, caressing my face gently.
“I will, thanks. Have fun with Daniel by the way” I teased her and she just shook her head and left.
“so, how was the break?”the principal asked
“much needed”
“Have you figured out what's wrong?”
“no”
“it's no problem, I have spoken to a coven of witches, they'll come over soon to help you”
“You'll turn into a lab rat. They'll use your powers”the shadow whispered.
“thank you”I said and left
As soon as I stepped out of the office, arms wrapped tightly around me.
The hug came fast — warm, familiar, and a little desperate. It caught me by surprise, forcing a breath from my lips as I staggered slightly into the embrace.
“There you are,” she whispered, voice thick with emotion. “I've been waiting”. Raven, we pull apart.
“How are you?”she asks, concern evident in her voice
“I'm good, how are you?”
“You know, just here”
“I know I haven't been the best friend and I'm so sorry. I just have a lot on my plate right now”
“it's fine, I actually have something to tell you”
“okay what is it?”
“Not here”she says, pulling me till we get to the rooftop.
“what happened?”I asked confused
“I don't think you're safe here anara”my eyebrow furrowed
“I don't—I don't understand”
“So when you went home, the principal sent for me. She was with a lady I haven't seen before. She didn't even look like she was from around here. She asked if I had noticed anything weird or if you were acting strange. Of course I said no. So when she dismissed me I decided to eavesdrop, I couldn't really hear what they were saying, but they said you were trouble and if you meet him, things will get out of hand” I didn't know what to say or do.
“What's going on anara?”
“Even I am confused. I'll need to leave”
“where are you going to go? What's happening anara, tell me!”
“I don't know! All I know is I'm not safe. *sighs* thank you so much raven”I stood up and turned to leave but stopped in my tracks as the principal, and about five people I don't recognize came in.
“You tried your best raven, thank you”the principal said and I turned to raven confused.
“You could have just told me if he was alive,”she said before going to stand beside the principal. Betrayal, it stung bad.
“get her”the principal said and one of the men behind her started to approach me, he grabbed my hand.
And out of nowhere, a wave of darkness surged across the floor, fast and furious, and threw the man like a rag doll. Bones broke.
There was smoke everywhere and suddenly I felt strong arms around me.
Lucien.
His scent hit me first—wild, earthy, with a hint of something sinful beneath. His hands were on my back, possessive, grounding. The building started shaking, like it was gonna fall apart. I met his eyes, I couldn't tell what he was thinking, I felt my legs lift from the ground as the building went crashing beneath us. And then slowly I felt the world stretch and snap .
Darkness folded over me like a blanket soaked in cold water. I couldn’t scream — not because I was afraid, but because the air was thick, heavy with ancient magic. My body felt weightless and burning all at once.
Then, my feet hit solid ground.
Stone.
The shadows released me like a sigh, and i stumbled forward, disoriented. A pair of strong arms caught me before I hit the ground.
Lucien.
“You’ll get used to it,” he murmured against my ear. “Shadow travel is... intense.”
I blinked up at him. The chamber we stood in was nothing like my world. Gothic stone walls arched high above, with candlelight flickering from ornate sconces. Dark velvet draped over windows that looked out into an endless black sky, pierced with red stars. This wasn’t Earth.
It was something older. Wilder.
I pulled back, trembling. “Where... are we?”
“My home.” Lucien’s eyes glowed in the dim light. “You’re in Veyruhn — the Realm of the Bound.”
My lips parted. “Realm of the—?”
He released me and walked toward a massive hearth, firelight licking his bare chest, casting wicked shadows over the carvings that etched across his skin. He poured a drink — thick, crimson — into a glass.
“You're no longer just a girl,” he said, watching the fire. “You’re the key to ending a curse that was written in blood centuries ago. This realm will soon know your name.”
I sank into the nearest chair, my legs threatening to give out. “And if I don’t want that?”
Lucien turned, finally facing me. His eyes were no longer glowing, but burning. Quiet. Deadly. Hungry.
“Then I’ll make you want it.”
“I'm confused”
“you're in my world anara, you've left everything you've known behind”
“but—Evelyn”
“You can't go back now”
“they'll hurt her”
“I'll send someone to deliver a message to her”
“I need to see her, i—”
“they'll come for you, they must have already found out the seal is broken”
“who?”
“my enemies, yours. The ones who cursed me, the ones who want your power”my head hurt.
“I need to be somewhere, I'll see you later” and with that he was gone. Leaving me to battle with my thoughts.
