My head ached so bad. I opened my eyes slowly. I was laying on the floor of my room. I stood up. It was still dark. Guess I wasn't out that long. I got up and went downstairs. Evelyn immediately turned to me
“Hey I am so sorry, I stayed out so long, one thing led to another and before I knew it the day was gone and—”
“hold up, what?”
“I tried calling you but your phone was off, I spent the night with daniel”
“What do you mean spent the night?”
“I just got back few minutes ago”I'm so confused.
“What's today?”
“Thursday, you're going back tomorrow” I was out for a whole day, wow.
“What's wrong?”
“oh it's nothing, my head isn't just in the right place”
“you sure?”
“yeah yeah, don't worry about me. How was your date anddd you spent the night with Daniel huh” her cheeks turn red.
“He's really sweet and I had a really good time”
“I'm happy for you, you should give him a shot”
“I will”
“that's good”
“yeah, aren't you hungry?”
“not really, but I'll have scrambled eggs on toast”
“okay, I'll be working in my room if you need me”
“Sure”she went upstairs and I quickly prepared my breakfast. I ate in silence. So many thoughts roaming in my head. How was I out for too long, and that dream or vision, what were those coven witches doing, why was he there?
The grimoire. I quickly finished my breakfast and ran to my room, locking the door behind me, the book was on my bed. I picked it up, it had a lock
Of course it had a lock. I thought to myself, the iron was already rusting.
But then a sharp sting. I had nicked my finger on the edge.
Blood smeared across the surface of the book, it clicked, unlocked.
The pages rustled, even though there was no wind. Words began to write themselves in curling ink. It was like the book was alive and it knew I was finally here.
At the very top, scrawled in dark red ink. It wrote.
“She who breaks the seal will awaken the demon king, and become his key or his curse”I read in my head.
“demon king?”
A name spilled onto the page, like a whisper in my head.
“lucien.”
The pages of the grimoire flipped again, one after the other, as if it was guided by invisible hands. They stopped on a page inked in red and black symbols, pulsing beneath my finger tips.
There was a spell.
It wasn't labeled clearly. No instructions, just ancient glyphs that swayed when I stared too long.
My fingers hovered over the page. The symbols lit up.
The candle on my desk, the one I didn't light —flared to life with black flame.
This is insane but it felt so right. I thought to myself.
My blood pulsed in my ears. My heartbeat rhythm with something ancient. I didn't remember speaking the words, but suddenly my mouth moved on its own.
“sanguis mihi. Tenebris, audi me. Libera eum”
Blood to me. Darkness, hear me. release him.
A gust of cold wind swept through my room, even though the windows were shut. The candle flames stretched —not upwards, but towards me. And then
Crack.
I stumbled back, gasping,as a black mark carved itself into the wooden floor, a circle.
From the center… Came smoke.
And from the smoke.. Came him.
First shadows. Then a form.
Tall. Barefooted. Shirtless, with blood red markings glowing faintly across his chest. Jet black hair tousled. Eyes filled with emotions I couldn't decipher. Suddenly, those eyes locked with mine.
Lucien.
He stepped from the smoke. Slow and unhurried, as if he had all the time in the world and had been waiting centuries to look at me like that.
“Anara”he called—voice like heat sliding off my skin. I couldn't speak or move, or breathe even.
He smirked, head tilting.
“You summoned me little witch”
“I didn't mean to”I whispered, looking up to meet his face.
“but you did”
Was a demon king supposed to be this beautiful? I thought he'd have horns or something.
“What are you?” I asked, curiosity, had gotten the best of me. He came closer, we were inches apart, I didn't move back, I wasn't afraid.
“monster, demon, vampire, the unholy sovereign, whatever suits you best little witch”
“What do you want from me?”
“I already have you, what more could I possibly want”
“I can't make sense of anything you're saying”
“And I don't blame you, you know nothing, you're so innocent. That school can't Train you, you don't belong there”
“Where else can I be?!”
“You know you're nothing like them, the witches bring light, they cast away darkness, but you on the other hand, you tap into it”
“I am not evil”
“I never said you were anara. I won't be the one to tell you about all these. Silas will teach you”
“Who's silas?”
“you'll meet him when we get home”
“we? Home? I am not going anywhere with you”
“you're not safe, not like I give a f**k about you. But you're essential to me. Most importantly if you die, I die”
“how's that even possible”
“we're bound little witch. You fed me your blood, you're key to the prophecy, you broke the seal and now that you set me free you belong to me”
“I don't!, I am not going anywhere with you lucien”I could tell the way I called his name caught him off guard for a second but he quickly regained composure.
“You don't have time, bid your goodbyes fast, I do not want to reign terror so soon because of you. Run if you want. I'll still find you, you're mine now little witch.” and with that he was gone. What exactly have I put myself into?
