The afternoon sun streamed in through the windows of the clinic as Roland, Lauren, and their father Russell sat around a small table to eat. Russell had just finished with attending to the few customers who needed him, and the environment was slightly quiet now. “So what did you guys get on the way?” “Porridge, your favorite,” Lauren answered as she carefully unpackaged the meal. “We also got some plantain and sardines.” “Really,” Russell said. He looked at Roland who sat still on the chair. “You both really didn’t need to.” “Of course we did,” Lauren answered in a calm voice. “You work tirelessly these days for little or no pay.
