Tyrrhenus’s expedition had been very successful. They identified some unsettled land near the coastline, land that rose to a low peak in the hills beyond the shore that made a perfect spot for their planned city.
He chose the highest of three hills, laying out the footprint for his castle and city on the highest, and assigning the military to the other two hills to construct fortifications to defend the king’s village. Construction proceeded quickly, at first based on the timber and other building materials that the Lydians had brought with them on the voyage, then supplemented by the natural resources of the area in central Italia.
