I swallow. One minute we're having fun in the water and the next minute, Jason is very serious and wants to talk. I look at Dean, he nods briefly. "Uh yeah, okay." I say. I grab my dress and sandals and put them on. We walk towards the lake. "What do you want to talk about?" I ask nervously. "Not yet, werewolves have very good hearing. Let's take a walk along the lake." He says. I remain silent. Why wouldn't he want the others to hear it? Can't they know that he has a human mate? I call myself to a stop. Don't jump to conclusions too quickly, I tell myself. "Sooo.. how far do we have to walk before they can't hear us?" I ask. "We're already out of hearing distance, I was just figuring out what to say." He answers awkwardly. I make an O shape with my mouth but don't say anything else. An awkward silence follows. None of us know what to say. "Have you by any chance thought about what you might want?" He asks after a few minutes. I think about how to tell that I just need time. "Yeah, a little bit. Listen. I know it's very different for most of you and that you think your mate is awesome. But it's not for me. I won't lie, I do feel something." I start and I feel myself blush. "But the thing is, I just got out of a long relationship. And I'm still hurting from that. He really hurt me. He cheated on me with my best friend. And I don't know if I'll be able to love someone again so soon ." I tell him and look at him, but he doesn't say anything. He just looks at me with an understanding look. "And I just need a little more time to get used to the idea. And work on my trust issues. I'm not saying I don't want to see you while I'm working on that. But I can't be with you right now." I tell him. He heaves a sigh of relief. "Okay, that's a relief. Not that your ex hurt you that much, of course. But that you at least want to give me a chance. When you're ready, of course." He smiles briefly. "And I can already tell you that I will never hurt you like that. Mates are everything to us wolves. If they are in pain, so are we." He says sweet. I give him a small smile. "Do you want the others to know that you have found your mate?" I ask carefully. "I'd love to share it with everyone, but it's not smart as long as we're not together." He says. I look at him questioningly. "If other packs hear that I've found my mate but she's not with me, they may see that as a weakness. And take advantage of it." He explains. "Yeah okay. I can understand that. I also like it more if it stays between us. Otherwise, everyone will whine about whether I've already made a decision. I don't need that now." I say straightforward. "I get that. But if I heard it right, you said that you do feel something." He says with a playful smile on his face. I can feel myself turning red again. "Let's walk a little further." He suggest. I look back and walk along. We are quiet but it is no longer uncomfortable. After a few minutes he suddenly turns around and I almost bump into him. I want to take a step back but he holds me. "What are you doing?" I ask surprised. He just looks at me. When I look into his eyes I see a loving look. "Please let me hold you for a moment." He says softly. I smile and nod. It feels a little weird so I wrap my arms around his waist. He immediately takes a step closer. My gaze falls on his lips. I wonder how it would feel to kiss him. I bite my lip. "Please don't do that." he says in a husky voice. I look at him. "You don't know how hard it is not to kiss you right now." Without thinking, I say, "Just do it." He will not let himself be told that a second time. Before I know it, I feel his lips on mine. And it feels so good. I moan softly. Damn this man can kiss. He pulls me closer to him. My hands run through his hair. After a few minutes, I let go to catch my breath. "Wow, best kiss ever." I say softly. He chuckles. "I think it's time to go back to the others." I say. "Yeah, good idea." He replies and gives me another small kiss. When we come back to the towels, everyone is taking a nap on their towel. "I have to go, there's a pile of paperwork waiting for me." He says sadly. "Oh, okay. Too bad. See you soon." I respond. I lie down and grab my book. After a few minutes, Jady turns around. "Hey girl, what are you reading?" I give her a wide smile. "Harry Potter." "Which one is your favorite?" She asks enthusiastically. "Definitely the 4th." I say. "Really? Mine is the 3rd, the only book Voldemort isn't really in." She says. "Yeah, I think that's my 2nd favorite. So, what's your house? Let me guess, Gryffindor?" I asks and she nods. "Yep, what's yours?" She asks. "Ravenclaw," I say proudly. "Yeah, that suits you." She says. We chat until the others wake up too. I'm starting to get hungry. "I think I'll go back to the hotel. I'm hungry." My stomach confirmed it by rumbling loudly. Everyone laughs. "Shall I walk with you?" Dean asks. "Yeah okay." I answer and I get up and pack my things. We walk away together. When the others can't hear us anymore, he asks "And how did the conversation with Jason go?" "Actually very well. He understands that I'm not ready now and that I need some time. I told him that it doesn't mean that I don't want to see him at all, but that I just can't be together yet. We've agreed not to talk to anyone about it yet." I tell him. "Yeah, that's a smart idea. I'm glad you two talked." He says.
