As the car's wheels rolled along, I could feel my heart, heavy as it is, pulse to the music flowing into my ears. A melody was the perfect distraction for such an occasion. I couldn't still believe my ears for two days straight. "It's for the best honey. Your father just landed a new job and I bet you that this one can afford us to buy you a cadillac or maybe a rolls Royce." Mother beamed, sitting beside father at the dining table like the supportive wife she always is. I stared blankly. "Mom I'm not an i***t. I know we are shifting because of Aurelius. " "Well," Mother started guiltily, "A comes before B so..." She went on to fork some leaves from the salad at her plate into her mouth. She didn't want me to say anything more. I turned to dad. "It's for the best Billy. We can't risk him being in this neighbourhood. We can now ditch this lifestyle and adopt a much more peaceful way to life." Dad said humbly, reaching his hand out to mine for comfort. I refrained. Then my blank stare slowly became a glare and I directed it to the seed that sprouted all this bumshit. °°°°° A day ago, as early as eight in the morning, we had already hit the road to our new 'abode' as dad called it. Located deep in the woods of I don't know where, I never took geography seriously, where nature and nurture thrives with life at its originality and organicity as manure is where 'home' is. Well, as dad described it. "Wait i think you take this sharp left turn and go straight for about six hundred metres." Mom directed as she followed a map fanned out at her thighs. Dad looked insecure. "Are you sure? That's what you said four sharp left turns ago." He stated. Mom sighed and glanced, as if exhausted, at dad, "Yes! I'm sure. See right here, right by Fir park and forest! That's where we're headed and the new 'abode " is just north of it by like twenty minutes or something." Dad sighed and did as he was told. Suddenly, the demon babbled. I looked at it to my right with a killer side eye. Ugh, it looked so adorable yet deceitful and disastrous. Aurelius stared back right at me with doe eyes as it lay in the same baby carrier I was in seventeen years ago. I hate y— "Ow!" I instantly exclaimed at mom's thump that landed hard on my knee cap. She motioned for me to take down my headphones once she got my attention. "Are you feeling peckish?" She inquired, having turned from her seat. "Quite." I said, rubbing my inflamed knee. "What do you want?" She added. "Just a burger or something. " "Okay well, you can sit tight and wait for about forty minutes before we reach a gas station." Mom then turned back into her seat. "Forty what?! Then why did you ask me now?" I raged. Mother patiently turned to me and looked me straight in the eye, "Because I can." °°°°°° It was about two in the afternoon when we arrived at the nearest gas station and thank God it had an agreeable restaurant! "C'mon kid." Dad motioned for me to tag along into the block. Mom got a hold of the demon and they trailed along with us. We got in and sat at a table in the left corner of the room that gave us a wide view. A waiter came in no less than a minute and signed up our orders. "Don't you wanna take a bathroom break— "Oh by the way." I immediately walked away. It took me a while to find the bathroom and I was eased in no time. "Yes I have." A man in one of the stalls spoke, "I didn't mean to miss it yesterday. I had a situation going on." The toilet flushed, "I know I know. I'm sorry." The door suddenly opened and he caught me staring. I panicked and turned around to face the wide mirror at the sinks. "Alright alright. I'll talk to you later. Bye." He hung up quick. I began feeling awkward. Everything just began feeling awkward. Thoughtfully, I washed my hands and made it for the door. "Wait." The man said. I slowly turned, so nervous I almost farted. Tall, hunter brown eyes, blonde, pleasant baritone, Greek-god-physique, well tanned, chiseled jaw, the attractive type of facial hair, top button undone on his red plaid shirt hence exposing his hairy thick chest, a buzz cut, slender face, cupid lips. Oh this man is a package! Not me daring to look down at his legs to see if he is— "Uh, my face is up here. " He spoke up. "I'm sorry. I, uh, I didn't mean to be rather so weird than, uh," I nervously smacked my lips, "welcoming. " I added having immediately tensed up and looked at right back into his eyes. Those hunter brown eyes. "How much of that conversation did you hear?" Oh he lost me. "I don't know. Nothing much. You just said affirmations and greetings for departure. That's all I remember." He dubbed a handkerchief onto his wet hands and faced his entire physique towards me.....oh it was bulging. "You sure?" Perhaps I'm delusional but I think I saw a tiny smirk etched by his smooth rose lips. "Yes. That's all it was." I suddenly smiled, hopefully trying to look innocent enough and mask my anxiety. "Hm." He looked quizzical, "Alright then." He said right before he passed right by me and exited, grinning his last at me. My goodness did he smell heavenly! "Snap out of it." I thumped my head instantly, collected my senses off the toilet floor and marched out with new unresolved mental lock. "Honey what you took so long?" Mom inquird the moment I made it back at the table. "Oh nothing. Just some long line." I lied as slipped into my seat. I sat facing the entrance of the restaurant and so i got a glimpse of Mr. Who-i-just-met-in-the-bathroom taking his order to go in a huge brown paper bag. We locked eyes and he nodded at me right before he left. Oh I didn't stop there. My eyes tracked him through the transparent wide restaurant windows all the way to the parking lot where I saw him hop into a shaggy silver pick up truck, right before it drove off. Potentially delirious, my eyes slowly traced themselves back into the main scene and the first thing they landed on was the demon that continued babbling in its carrier.
