Week 2: How to design characters/Afterlife character

490 Words
1. Gregory was raised in  modest family: his mother was a teacher; his father an engineer. By the time Gregory grows twelve, he becomes a winner of miscellaneous scientific and technical contests, and becomes of a very high self-esteem. How mother add fuels to that, indulging him after every success. At the same time, Gregory doesn't handle failures well; even though he doesn't blame others for failures, he always gets angry and aggressive, striving to change the outcome in his favor. As time goes by, Gregory enters the college. He is well-prepared young man, with bright intellect,  but his attitude towards anyone outside his family and few real friends can be named indifference alloyed with disdain. Yet he's very kind and caring about his parents, especially towards his grandmother, also a teacher, who was stern and strong enough to direct young Gregory towards proper ways. Gregory meets Helen at the same college; he was never looking for relations so far, spending his efforts and time on getting as much possible benefit from education as possible - to defeat further heights; but when he learns Helen is working on a difficult mathematical problem, something too difficult for Gregory to solve in a second, he becomes attracted to her. As time goes by, attraction grows into something bigger. 2. As the story begins to unfold, Gregory works at a high-tech company; he's a respected engineer and designer in there - even though his personal traits are not adding to his reputation. He's often arrogant, he may be rude; yet, when he talks to a person showing education and erudition in the area being discussed, Gregory treats the person as equal. In the office and on the plants where his projects are implemented he's distant, mostly scornful and self-focused. When with his family or Helen, he can be smiling, caring and  can condescend to trivial or silly talks. He doesn't like any pets; although his grandma keeps a cat, Gregory only is capable of tolerating it. 3. Gregory is well-built; although he wasn't engaged into any sport, he still tries to keep himself in a good shape, since his primary power, brain, depends on that. He looks handsome: height slightly above average, oval face, short hair, gray eyes. He isn't avoiding getting his hands dirty; in the labs and at the plants, he can burn the midnight oil if necessary - one can find him fixing a machine, or cleaning something, tuning, doing any technical work. Likewise, he likes jogging, alone or with Helen - they never talk when doing that, but they both like that those silent rounds. 4. Gregory isn't much of a social man. Apart from inevitable communication with the world around him, he tries to reduce that to possible minimum. His parents, grandma and Helen with her parents are the only social media he needs - mostly because those keep him having a very high self-esteem, deserved or not.
