Silence, which is deadlier than the hide-and-seek I played, swallowed us whole.
The thugs did not dare say a word as my father shut his mouth. This is not a place to start a drama, but it's not as if I have a choice to begin with. I feel like I was making a fool of myself as no words of anger or peace came out of my father’s lips.
He remained the same indifferent man despite our situation.
“I don’t have time for this, Ada. If you have something to say, spill it when we return home. Get in the car now.”
With a low voice and unchanging expression, my father looked me in the eyes and spilled that statement without a single emotion. He looks more like a man doing an unwanted task rather than a father saving his child.
