Ch 5

940 Words
Emmalee I'm not sure what Noah's problem is, honestly. Now I feel really guilty for canceling on Garrett. He seems so nice. They always do, says my wolf. What do you mean, Leah? I ask. I’ve got a bad feeling about him, Em. I can feel her retreat in my mind. I think she’s just depressed that we still haven’t found our mate. As we walk towards my neighborhood, we talk, and he makes me laugh. I like this. I like him. Maybe I should give him a chance and just not tell my brother about it. After a while, we start to walk in amicable silence. It’s nice to be able to just walk with someone and not feel the need to fill the silence. Lost in my thoughts, I don't notice that Garrett has fallen a couple steps behind. Everything that happens next is a blur. Garrett's hand is over my mouth, and he is dragging me into the tree line of the forest we were walking along. I feel a prick in my neck and a strange sensation comes over my body. It makes me instantly sick, and I can’t feel my wolf at all. I know instantly that he must have given me wolfsbane. He hits me hard in the side of the head, causing me to fall. I look up at him, confused and searching his face for answers. All I see is a menacing smirk and eyes full of malice. No. This can't be happening. Garrett was so nice. "Why?" Is all I can manage to breathe out. "Why? WHY? Because nobody rejects me. Ask the other girls." Something about the way he says this makes a shiver run up my spine. How many girls has he done this to? As Garrett starts to undress himself, I realize what is going to happen. "Garrett, no. Please. Don't do this. Just let me go home." I'm panicking at this point but even in my distraught state, I can see that it's not making any difference to him. He never utters a single word after that. He just violently removes my clothing and moves over me. Garrett does what he intended to do, and I silently sob the whole time. Once he's done, he stands up to put his pants back on. I move to gather my clothing and I realize that it's all been ruined. I can’t put these shreds of clothing back on. Everyone will know that something happened. Oh, God. How am I going to sneak past my whole family when they're probably waiting to hear about my day? Garrett must notice the panic on my face because he smirks again and says, "Don't worry, you don't need to be dressed. Whoever finds you probably won't even recognize you." I'm confused by this. What does he mean? Then his fists connect with my face, and I instantly know. Garrett is going to kill me. Garrett I always feel so alive once I'm done. This was my first time beating someone like that but, man, did it really get my adrenaline going. There's no way she can survive that. I'm the strongest warrior. And injecting her with a little wolfsbane took the fight right out of her along with keeping her wolf from healing her. Nobody will ever know it was me. I take off walking towards home. Whistling as I go. Not a worry in the world. Sam Nearing the end of dinner, I notice that no dessert has been brought out. I make my way to the kitchen in search of it. "Miss Edna, where is the dessert you were baking earlier?" "Hmm? I wasn't baking anything." "But... I smelled something like sugar cookies. I was hoping they were for dessert tonight." "No, young Alpha. You must have smelled something else. Maybe your mate." She wiggles her eyebrows at this, and I can't help but laugh at the old lady's ridiculous statement. I would know if my mate was here. Wouldn't I? "Good night, Miss Edna. Maybe we can have sugar cookies sometime this week?" "Sure. I'll add it to the menu. Now good night, Sam," she smiles as she shoos me out of the kitchen. As I start up the stairs, already stressing the next day, I receive a link from a pack member. 'Alpha, someone has been attacked.' 'Where, Mike?' 'In town, sir. I don't believe it was a rogue. This looks more... personal.' 'Personal? What do you mean?' 'You'll see. Come to Pearcy Street, almost where it meets Elk Street. It looks like a young woman. I'll wait here." F*ck. This is not what I needed. Nevertheless, it is my responsibility, so I change direction and head back down the stairs. As I leave the front door, Noah comes up behind me. "Hey, Alpha! Where are you headed?" "Someone was attacked, I'm on my way to check it out. You live on Elk, right?" "Yeah, I do. Is someone on my street hurt?" "Nah, on Pearcy, but I figured I'd ask if you've seen anything sketchy over there." "Nope. Haven't noticed anything. But my sister and I take this route to and from the packhouse, so I'll keep an eye out." And I know he will. Noah is a great warrior and one of my closest friends. "Thanks, man. I was told it’s a young woman who was attacked." Noah stops dead in his tracks and his eyes go wide as he mutters, "Oh my God. My sister." He takes off running and I know that I need to as well. I really hope it’s not his sister.
