"My life is my own, i don't need you in my life. Mother!" I yelled at my mother that early Monday morning. I and my mother lived in a one room apartment in Ikorodu. A town in Lagos. We moved here after the death of my father. That evil man who was two-timing. He had my mother and a side chick, he didn't really care for us except to come home heavily drunk and beating I and my mother to stupor, he sexually harassed me but not to the point of taking my virginity As a young girl then, i hardened my heart against all men. I called them brutes and drunks. I also decided to take to the wrong way. At this time of the story, i was a Senior Secondary Three student in Zion High School, preparing for the senior WAEC examination. I was among the happening babes and I sometimes steal from my mother to promulgate my nefarious lifestyle. My mother always advise me but I turned deaf ears to her warnings. I decided not to talk to my mother about anything happening to me and she became saddened by this attitude of mine. I was tired of always being the good girl. I was conflicted and angry, i tried to cajole my mother to seeing my point of view but she flared up saying if I left the house she would disown me. Then I lost it. I screamed the words that have been in my head for a long time. “My life is my own, i don't need you in my life. Mother!, Who cares about what I do, we are impoverished and I am trying my best to let us survive. Why can't you just see that?“ After i yelled at her, i saw her face and knew i had said too much but i didn't apologize. My mother then opened her mouth and muttered five words which changed how my life will be forever. “You are not my daughter.“ Then she wept and went into the one room and locked herself in. I was humbled but my path had been set and I left the house. Five years later, i became a thick in the game p********e, getting and aborting pregnancies till I got fed up of this kind of life. My mother's tears kept haunting me, and her last words to me kept disturbing me. My mother has done a lot for me and yet i pay her back with evil. I decided enough is enough, i must go back to my mother just like the prodigal son. My problem now is that, will i be accepted back by my mother after five years or i am doomed to never see the smile on my mother's face.
