David had come home late the day his son committed suicide because, ironically, his last appointment had cancelled. His patient, Mr. Oslow, had begged off, claiming a mild flu bug. David suspected more and had gone to visit him at his home. Their last discussion the week before had been enlightening, maybe too enlightening for Mr. Oslow. It’s not every day that you uncover a suppressed memory of abuse at the hands of your parents. Mr. Oslow had left shaken, and David had bumped up their next appointment by a few days in case Mr. Oslow needed some help managing the psychological fallout. But now canceling the appointment made David think there was more to it.
