5 After the boys were through with dinner, they headed back to the common room. None of them were interested in watching TV, so they sat down to play cards. It came so easily, it made Andrew wonder. Here they sat like a group of friends who had known each other for years playing gin, not a group of patients desperately trying to forge a bond in an insane asylum. Around the room Andrew could see others suffering from symptoms. He saw it in hollow gazes and the frantic movement of twitching eyes. He could see it in the three autistic kids participating in conversations as well as their condition would allow. It all seemed surreal, almost wrong.
