20 Into the Shadow Andrew fell. It was not the river of voices into which he tumbled, but a void. Cold and darkness surrounded him and clung to him like a spider’s web. He could sense the horrors around him as they pressed in from every side. He felt a claw rake against his side, and he winced in pain. Nightmare things were all around him; hovering as if to strike, but he moved through swiftly, falling through the void. Suddenly something closed around his ankle.
