David’s body still ached an hour later as he sat handcuffed to a chair at the police station. When the officers had brought him in, someone had recognized him. After a brief discussion with the captain, he had skipped booking and had been brought directly to an officer’s desk for questioning. David knew how he looked. His clothes were torn; blood and other fluids caked his body. Tiny cuts and bruises littered his throat and face. Despite his work with the department, if he started talking about monsters in the park and visions of his dead son, the interview would swiftly go downhill.
