Moments before the Mummer screamed Amoroth felt something, too. He looked across the room at Lichten, who was too engrossed with the struggles and yells of their patient to notice. It felt like a shudder coming through the building, at its strongest here in the bowels. It made his hair stand on end and his lower back ache. He knew what it was immediately. Someone was touching Shadow. He knew that touch like the back of his hand. It was love and hatred at the same time. And it was strength. Yes, let’s not forget strength and power. It was the reason for all this, wasn’t it? he thought. Someone was using the magic, and it was not him. Amoroth reached out and placed his hand against the wall. “Lyle?” He spoke quietly but firmly. There was no answer. “Lyle?” he said again
