Val
I had walked back to the office to drop off my work clothes from the day, when I heard the door buzzer go off and looked at the clock, a few minutes before 330. I walked slowly out of the back office, to see that tall, muscular man from yesterday admiring the bakery case. He hadn't spotted me, so I walked slowly behind the case and said " See anything you like?"
He looked up and smiled and said, " a few things". Which instantly made my face get hot and blush.
I stammered and then continued to say " Oh my! Well, there are several things to choose from. Vanilla, chocolate/chocolate, and chocolate/peanut butter".
His face lit up and said "I'm going to have to do the chocolate/peanut butter", pointing to the last cupcake in the row I stopped at.
Coming right up!" I said with a smile. I yelled at Darby " Darby, his coffee is on me!"
She nodded a little confused "Heard!"
I took out 2 plates, and placed a cupcake on each one, grabbed my coffee cup, before heading to a table in the corner of the Café. I set everything down on the table, without spilling a drop, thankfully.
I was getting ready to sit down when I felt a quick breeze next to me, with Lucas standing next to the chair pulling it out. "Oh! Thank you." I said with a smile.
Lucas
We sat there starting with the normal pleasantries. I guess I haven't dated much in my life. Most she wolves would just throw themselves at me "because I was the Alpha or Alpha's son".
She asked, “so Mr. Black, where are you from?" Grinning at her own joke.
"Haha! So, you speak French?" I asked.
"Un petit peu." She said, smiling, "a little bit"
"I live about 2 hours east of here" I told her.
"Oh!" She was slightly shocked.
"What?" I asked
"Well, I was always told growing up that the only people that lived east of here were in some type of cult" she said quizzically.
I thought for a moment she was not wrong in a way. I smiled as I told her "Huh! That's a new one!"
She giggled, which made the hairs on my neck stand on end. "There is an elite school, with a tiny town around it", I explained.
"Well, that does sound better than a cult!" She smiled.
Val
I was surprised how easily we talked; it was effortless. Although I was worried, he thought I was a sort of freak saying he lived in a cult. Ugh! So dumb Val! I thought to myself.
"So, tell me, is Val short for something? Valhalla perhaps?" He said as he grinned
"It's short for Valencia." As I rolled my eyes, “my mom was a late hippie, and lived in California at the time", I explained.
"Valencia" he said in a velvety tone that sent shivers down my spine. "It's beautiful. So how about a last name, since you know mine?"
"It's Moor" I responded.
"So, you're from California then? " He asked.
"Originally, yes, we moved here when I was 3 or 4, I think, after my dad left” I told him, looking down at my hands.
Lucas
"You're an ass!" Gavin was yelling in my head.
I reached out and grabbed her hand, "I'm sorry", I told her. Sparks erupted in my fingertips as I touched her hand.
"Don't be, I don't really remember him. I had a great mom to make up for it! “ She smiled.
I looked down and noticed the cupcakes sitting there. She caught me eyeing them and said "dig in! I hope you like it!"
I cut into the one on my plate and took a bite. It was a wonderful chocolate and peanut butter flavor. "It tastes wonderful! I said after swallowing. "You made these?" I asked.
"Yes. It was my mom and I's thing to do together, and it is something I do now for fun and relaxation." She said with a grin. "I'm glad you like it."
"I love it!" I exclaimed.
She giggled again, now the hair on my arm stood up on end, "I'm glad". She smiled, "you can always take some with you if you'd like?"
"Really? I would love that!" I told her.
Val
No one had asked me about my name, where I was from, or my parents in a long time. It was awkward and sad all at the same time. Lucas reached out and grabbed my hand and apologized to me, about my dad. His hands were large and tough but not calloused, and I could feel a warmth emanating from them.
I saw him glance down and notice the cupcakes again, he was awful cute and boyish as he looked. "Dig in! I hope you like it!" I told him. As he released my hand to grab a fork.
I thought he might eat it in. 2 bites, but then he stopped and said " It tastes wonderful! "You made these?" He asked.
I nodded and said" Yes. It was my mom and I's thing to do together, and it is something I do now for fun and relaxation. I'm glad you like it."
"I love it!" he exclaimed, about startling me.
I chuckled, because he did look like a giddy schoolboy. I smiled and said," I'm glad. You can always take some with you if you'd like?"
Lucas smiled at me with excitement, his smile about made me drool. " Really? I would love that!" He told me.
Darby was waving across the Café at me, and I looked at the clock. "5pm time to close up. I'll get the stuff cleaned up in the morning if you want to go?" I told her.
"Thanks Val! I wrapped up all the left-over bakery, took out the trash, and made more cold brew! See you tomorrow! " Darby hollered as she jetted out the door.
"So, are you kicking me out?" I heard in that velvety tone behind me.
I turned to see Lucas standing there holding out empty plates.
"Not at all, follow me." I said, motioning to the back after locking the front door.
I showed him where to set the dishes. I'd get those in the morning. I went over next to the bakery case, pulled out a box and popped in a couple of each cupcake and cookie for good measure.
"Here you go!" I said, handing the box.
"I should pay for those. They're delicious!” he exclaimed.
"Nah, the owner is an old softy, it's on the house,” I said with a wink.
"So, what would you like to do now?" Lucas asked, as his eyes seemed to sparkle at me.
