A little bit later, a ding and a text from Val "Be safe. Let me know if you make it back OK."
My heart was racing at just the thought of her, and her scent was filling the inside of my car. "Damien, we need to talk when I get back!" I linked him.
"My office or yours?" He linked back
"Mine! Back in 30" I linked back.
"See you then!" Damien said and broke our link.
Once I was back at the Packhouse, I grabbed my box of goodies Val sent and headed to my office. Damien was waiting for me as I entered. I walked behind the desk and pulled out 2 glasses and a bottle of bourbon. "That kind of night, huh?" Damien asked.
"Something like that" I said, kind of defeated.
I pulled out my phone, and texted Val "home safe, can't wait for tomorrow! Hope you get some rest! ❤"
A minute later, I felt my phone vibrate and saw "sweet dreams " from Val.
I turned back to Damien and said, "So tell me about these sightings."
"Ah, ah, ah tell me about YOUR night first, and by the way, what's in the box?" He asked.
I grinned, holding up the box. "Val sent dessert back with me. Want a snack and a drink? “I asked.
Damien was not about to turn down food. I swear that man was part horse. I talked about the evening, and what we had done. About how her touch was driving me so mad I had to leave before losing control. Then I explained the only weird part of the night was a wolf nightmare and told him about her ring. "So, she made these?" Was the first thing Damien said.
I chuckled and said "Yes!"
"Dy has to try these! Anyway, so she has a wolf ring that she hasn't worn since her mom died, until today when you had a date with her?" I nodded my head.
"So, what made the nightmares stop? And why did she put it on today? What did it look like?" Damien asked.
" I don't know we got interrupted and I never got back to it. Why?" I said as a knock and the door opened to see Damien's mate Dy walking into the office.
"Try these!" Damien said, holding up the box before I could ask why she was there.
I squinted at Damien, and Dy was now sitting in his lap. "Keep going, Dy won't tell anyone." He said.
He was right, Dy was very similar to Damien in being helpful and never being judgmental unless needed. "It was a white gold wolf's head howling at an aquamarine moon." I told them.
"So, what happened in her dreams?" Damien asked.
"She's chased through the woods until the wolves catch her and she wakes up at them biting her" I explained.
" How interesting" Dy said. "So, more importantly, can she make a wedding cake?"
I forgot Damien had said that their wedding cake person had backed out last week, and Dy had been on the hunt since, for their nuptials in a couple months. "I don't know", I exclaimed, running my face over my hands, as I flopped back into my office chair.
"I'll tell you what, I'll do some research into the ring and the nightmares and see if there is any significance, if you ask her about a wedding cake?" Dy said.
"I will." I told her.

I woke up sweating for the second time tonight, as I was being bit by a wolf. Looking at the clock, it was now 330. "Well, time to get up!" I said.
I got up and around, planning on getting over to the Café around 430. "What to make today?" I said to myself.
Maybe some lemon cake filled with raspberries and lemon icing. Since it was so early outside, our little corner market wasn't open, so I ran to the next town over that had a 24-hour market. I grabbed the things I need for my lemon cake, and to make dinner for Lucas and me tonight. I decided on lasagna with some garlic bread, and if I had time today I'd mix up a cheesecake.
The morning was kind of dreary and seemed to drag on. All of a sudden, I heard a ding on my phone. " Good morning Beautiful! Can't wait to see you today", I read from Lucas.
"I can't wait either. Could you bring some sunshine with you?" I giggled as I pressed send.
"Am I gathering you at the Café today, or at your place?" He asked.
"I would say the Café to be on the safe side." I told him.
Just then, Heather came in for her shift. "OK! Spill it! Heather exclaimed.
"Spill what?" I asked.
She wrinkled her nose at me and said" You know what! You think I don't know already in this town. Darby said you had a tall drink of water in here yesterday, and that you and he looked like you were on a date in the corner."
"Oh! That! Well..." I trailed off.
"I'm waiting..." Heather chimed back.
I told her the whole story about me almost burning him with coffee to our dinner last night. "So, are you seeing him again? " She asked.
"Yes-s” I said, slowly biting my lip.
Her now furrowed brow at me "WHEN?" she yelled.
"Today. I'm making him dinner." I told her.
"Girrrl!" She said. "You're going to make him dinner, and what's for dessert?" As she looked me up and down.
"He's not like that! He's a perfect gentleman.“ I told her.
"Uh huh!" Heather chided me. "Mine was too, and now I have 3 kids." She chuckled.
I know she is just worried. I've never really done much with any boy or man, for that matter. Kissing and a little fooling around as a teenager, but I have never had s*x with anyone.

I woke up happy at the thought of seeing Val, but still worried about what to do about her being human, and how that would play out. I opened my phone and texted her, "Good morning Beautiful! Can't wait to see you today"
"I can't wait either. Could you bring some sunshine with you?" She texted back.
It must be a gloomy day outside the cult. I chuckled; it was still funny. Damien couldn't believe it either. I grabbed a shirt and headed out to the training fields. After a good workout with Damien and I, with some of our warriors, I went and cleaned up and headed to my office.
I sat reading reports, when a knock followed by Damien and Dy coming in. "I haven't asked her about the cake" I said, staring at Dy.
"I would hope not, more of an in-person conversation. Plus, if she breaks your heart, that would be awkward" Dy joked.
"Dy did some research" Damien said.
"As far as the ring, I have been unable to find anything like it. I found similar, but not quite the same ring. It could just be a custom piece of jewelry too." She huffed.
"Still a work in progress... but everything I've seen so far about nightmares about wolves could mean danger is near, or there is something unresolved", she added.
"Interesting" I said as I pondered.
"Maybe you're her unresolved issue, " Dy said with a smile.
Damien rolled his eyes, "are you headed that way?" He asked.
I nodded. "Thanks for your help". I linked Damien and Dy as I walked down the stairs.
"You're welcome! Go get your Luna" Damien responded.
He would support whoever my mate would be, as long as they were a good person and good for the pack. My parents though...they would be a problem. I had convinced my dad to let me take over the pack at 18, even though I hadn't found my mate after turning 17. Not that my mom hasn't been trying to introduce me to every unmated she wolf in the surrounding 3 states. I can only imagine what they would say if they met Val.
