Chapter 3

Val I was cold, running in the woods, and the moon was so bright I could see without a flashlight. Not that it mattered because the fog was so thick at times you could barely see 10 feet in front of you. I could hear something behind me as I ran and could feel it just on my heels. I ran faster, finding it harder and harder to catch my breath. It was just then that I tripped over a log and fell, catching myself with my hands and knees. I could feel whatever was chasing me was closer now, as a growl emanated through the fog, and all I could see were 2 gold eyeballs staring at me. I kept crawling backwards away from them, until I smacked into a tree. As I looked forward, I didn't take my eyes off the gold eyes in front of me, and then I felt hot breath on my right cheek. As, I heard a growl and then a snap! I sat straight up in bed, with Booker licking my face. Molly, my border collie, stood anxiously at my feet, as my German shepherd sat next to me trying to keep licking my face. Apparently, I fell asleep before putting them in their crates. I scooted back down into bed, trying to put the dream out of my mind. It was midnight when I looked at the clock. Hopefully, I can get some more sleep before going into the Café early. Another "Snap!" and sat straight up again in bed, and now covered in sweat. I looked at the clock again, now it was 230 am. Well, I might as well get up, I thought to myself. I got out of bed; the dogs remained sleeping on the bed as I crawled into the shower. "Going to be a long day." I said to myself. Lucas We ran all night finding a couple of small packs of rogues, but nothing we couldn't handle easily. Trackers were working on other leads as I headed back to the Packhouse. "I'm going to try and shower and sleep for a few before going to meet with Val" I linked Damien. "Agreed. You probably should be presentable." He linked back "When do you need to leave?" Damien linked. I linked back "Not till afternoon. Let's meet late in the morning and go over what the patrols and trackers come up with." "Sounds like a plan!" Damien linked. "I need to get home to Dy before she rings my neck." Damien linked. Dy, aka Dyanne, was Damien's mate, and she had my behemoth of a Beta in line. I had never seen him so happy, since he found her. "Haha! I hear the whip now." I linked back. "Whatever, just wait until your mate has you wrapped around her finger. " Damien linked, clearly annoyed. Val I got ready for the day, laid out an extra outfit that I would pick up later when I ran to let the dogs out prior to meeting up with Lucas. I didn't know what was going with that, I thought to myself. I slipped my wolf ring on my finger, maybe that would help? I hadn't worn it in years, but then again, I hadn't had nightmares in years. My mother had given me a white gold wolf head ring that was howling at a light aquamarine moon. When I had repeated wolf nightmares and dreams shortly after we moved here, my mother gave me that ring. It was hers and she had placed it on a chain, until I was old enough to wear it on my finger. After that, the nightmares went away, and I hadn't thought about them till now. I hadn't worn that ring since my mother died 2 years ago. Hopefully it will help today. With that, I headed out to start baking at the Café.
