3: The proposal

After her parents, reached her house from Airport. They all gathered at the dining table which she had arranged with some pizzas and drinks. Collin's family was meeting after a very long time.
Her father’s assistant, Laura, walked in and handed her phone to her Edward. He apologized and received the call. Cathy and my mother, Sarah talked about her new job. Her father was still busy with phone calls while her mother started to question her.
“Is there anyone in your life?” she asked.
She shrunk my eyes.
“I mean. Are you in a relationship?”
“No for now. I am living a happy life alone.”
Edward sat on his chair when he was done with the call. “Cathy, this is kind of important. It may sound different. But I and your mother have been thinking about your marriage.”
“My marriage? I am just 23! dad…”
“I know my dear… I know… we are not forcing you… It’s totally your choice. There was an… umm… how to say… an offer… Nah… offer is the right word. An agreement… or a proposal.”
“Dad… what are you saying… I don’t get it…”
“Mr. Collins you are complicating it. Wait let me tell you.” My mother snapped. “There was this huge businessman… a lot more than huge id ready to sign a huge project with us. If we got this project… our company will reach its sky… But he heard that we have a daughter… I mean… he proposed, to marry his son for the exchange of the project as a symbol of a good relationship.”
“What…?”
“See… we totally get it… I told him straight in the face… this marriage will happen only if my daughter agreed to it…” her father said.
“It’s your choice Cathy… we are not forcing you… You think and take two days of time… think well … If you are fine with that… Let me know we will arrange for the marriage.”
“Mom, right now I am really not in a mindset of a marriage… I feel good at living alone.”
“Listen my dear… it may sound good… because you are young and energetic. It may sound possible to live alone. But it is not. You’ll feel so lonely. All your friends will get marry and you’ll feel alone.”
“I am already alone dad…”
“See this is what I am talking about. You don’t have to be alone. You deserve a good family. I know me and your mother could not make it… and we have our own separate paths… different lives. But you really deserve a good family and caring one my dear.” Edward said.
Sarah held her hands and said, “Think about the business as well. We are still not forcing you.”
“I am going out for a smoke,” Cathy said.
“Sure…” Sarah replied.
she took her father’s pack of cigarettes and walked out to her lawn area. She thought for a while… My life isn’t going as I wish. At least let’s make my parents happy and proud of me. If he from a very rich background and I hope that he will treat women so well with respect. She took out her mobile from her pocket and searched ‘Maryland & co’. They have a humungous amount of businesses and the list was so long which made her bored. It shows the chairman's name was James Dylan and all the information was only about the business and chairman. Nothing about his family. Not even their sons or wife name mentioned anywhere. Still, she was in confusion and puzzled. But she trusted her parents. They must’ve done all this research beforehand coming to her with the proposal.
When her cigarette was over, she went inside and told them that she agreed to the marriage. She had never seen her parents that happy and they were so proud of her. That day, they said they love her more times than she ever heard in her entire life.
