Her Best Friend

         7:00am-      Lila had been preparing for this tournament for a while now. She practiced how she would argue her points over and over so that she would win. "The Death Penalty should not be allowed in any country because of its bad influence. The death penalty has the risk of executing an innocent person."  She pictured herself standing there at the podium waiting for her opponent to state his claim. "I'm totally going to dub this, no doubt." Lila thought. Her thought was interrupted when all of a sudden, "Lila!" her mom called her down for breakfast. "Coming mom!" she yelled down to her mom. She grabbed the rest of her belongings stuffed them into her bag and ran down the stairs. "Good morning sweetie," her mom said as she kissed her forehead. "Good morning mom," she said irritated that her mother did that. "I'm not a kid anymore you don't have to kiss my forehead anymore," she said as she rolled her eyes. "i know i know, but my baby's got a big debate today," her mother says excitedly. "wish me luck." Lila says as she walks out the door. Its now 7:23 and Lila has finished breakfast and is getting into her car. She picks up her phone to call her friend Steph to see if she's still coming to her tournament. "you have reached Steph's voicemail, if its not important stop calling me. Thank you! *Beep*"  "hey Steph its me Lila, just wanted to call and make sure you're still showing up tonight. it would mean the world to me if you came. thanks, love you. bye!" She hung up and started her car, pulled off and drove to school.           Lila has always loved school, it was like her vacation to Bora Bora. She always had her head in a book and her grades were straight A's. She had this huge crush on the high school jock Tyler. Now Tyler was a stuck-up, absentminded jock, who everyone seemed to love, including her. She knew how much her mom would hate it if she ever talked to Tyler, so she watched him from a distance. She see's Steph at her locker and walks up to her. "Hey Steph!" "Hey Lila, sorry I missed your call bb and yes I'm still coming tonight. I wouldn't miss it for the world. I heard that hot guy from the city will be debating tonight. maybe ill get lucky and score. What's his name again , Steph stared off into space then her eyes widened as she remembered, 'Ben! that's his name. ugh. I would love to have me some Ben." Lila made a disgusted noise "I bet he's not even all that. what if he's actually ugly." Lila laughed at her own comment. "He's totally hot just you wait." Steph said to Lila as she closed her locker.       She always dreaded first period. Gym class. She hated the thought of her having to do physical activities after she spent so much time getting ready in the morning. *whistle blows* "alrighty my lovely maggots everyone line up!!" Coach Ballard yelled. "ugh why does he always have to be so loud in the morning," Lila whispered to Steph. "Pshh if only I knew, I think its the lack of women in his life," Steph whispered back." "STEPH, LILA! I'm assuming you guys just volunteered to be our guinea pigs for today. over here now!" Lila and Steph looked at each other in horror when Coach Ballard put them on the spot. "NOW!" they both ran to coach Ballard. "Now, since you lovely ladies wanted to talk give me 25 burpees." coach Ballard said in amusement. "But coach," they both said in fear of embarrassment. "Drop it down and count aloud!" coach Ballard yelled. Steph and Lila did what they were told and did the 25 burpees.     "Now is there anyone else who would like to join them?" Coach Ballard asked the class. "Nooo!' they all shouted back. Class went on for another hour when finally the bell rang. "That was very exhausting," Lila said. "yeah, lets remember to just be quiet anytime he's talking." Steph said. "So, do you think ill have a chance with Tyler?" Lila asked Steph. Steph stopped walking staring at Lila in shock "No freaking way!! you like Tyler," ' i know i know but please don't tell him, you know if he found out id never show my face again." Lila said embarrassed. "Why would you do that. you're a very beautiful. you have very nice curves and you're very smart, who wouldn't want someone like you?" Steph said in confusion. "Tyler. Tyler wouldn't want someone like me." The conversation ended at that.       School went of for what it seemed like an eternity. *bell rings* "fina-fuckingly, I thought I was gonna die of boredom if school didn't end," Steph said exhausted. "I know it felt like a million years. I think its just my nerves for tonight." Lila said. "girl. you have nothing to be worried about. you're totally gonna dub this tonight. i cant wait to see the look on you opponents face when they announce you the winner!" Steph said proudly. "most of all you're my bestie, I know for a fact you're taking this dub." Steph said with confidence. "aww you really think so?" Lila asked. "I know so." Steph said as she pulled Lila in for a hug. "now. lets get you ready for the debate tournament!"
