Chapter 8

Roe's P.O.V. Damien. That man. How on earth had he managed it? He barrelled through all my walls and I didn't even know how. I felt so needy around him and so nervous. Ugh! I didn't even want to think about last night. Why did I let him do that? And why had it felt so right to let him take care of me? Honestly who does he think he is. Infuriating man. I glared into my coffee, wondering what his game was. Was I just fresh meat to him? Though honestly I hadn't seen him with anyone or pay attention to any girls. Except me. Ugh, I didn't want to think about this right now. I moved to the pantry and grabbed the jar of Nutella and a spoon with one hand, my bad hand wearing the splint. I had just sat back down at the breakfast bar when Alec walked in, clearly still tired after last night.  "One of those days is it?" He nodded to the jar in my hand as he got himself a coffee. I shoved a spoonful in my mouth causing him to smirk. Prick! The moment the chocolate hit my tongue I sighed, my eyes closing at the delicious sweetness. Then the spoon was suddenly pulled from my hand. My eyes snapped open and I was about to yell at who ever dared to take chocolate from me, when it was replaced with a donut. My favourite maple bacon donut from Sybelle's. Wide eyed I looked up to see Damien standing behind me, smiling down at me sheepishly. Why was he so tall? "I asked Warren what you usually order." He offered as he leaned around me, placing a coffee down as well and kissing my temple. What did he do that for? "I...uhm, Thank you." I managed to mumble, feeling the blush creep up my cheeks. Why did he make me so tongue tied? He sat beside me with his own breakfast, his leg brushing mine and it took everything in me to focus on my breakfast and not him. A moan escaped my lips as I took a bite of the doughnut. I couldn't help it. It was so damn good. "Hey where's mine?" Alec asked, sounding offended at being left out. I smirked, taking a slow bite to taunt him. He glared at me and I chuckled, leaning closer to Damien. "I don't think he deserves a donut, do you?" I whispered. Damien shook his head, good he was playing along. This could be fun. "No, he definitely hasn't worked hard enough." He agreed and Alec's jaw dropped. "I worked just as hard as you two last night." He pointed at us. "I wouldn't call chatting up girls all night, working." I pointed out taking another bite. It was getting hard to stop myself from laughing. "Definitely not." Damien agreed. "Unless he took one home? That would be a work out." I suggested and looked at Damien as if this was serious conversation. He somehow kept his face straight but his eyes danced with mischief and something else. Something I couldn't place. "It would. But this is Alec we're talking about." Damien shrugged. "Hey! You both know I'm great at picking up girls." He yelled. "So where is this mystery girl you brought home then?" I raised an eyebrow at him and he just folded his arms over his chest, muttering under his breath. We both broke into laughter before Damien threw a doughnut at him. He was too easy to wind up. "Please forgive us, oh master of getting laid." I begged half heartedly and I could see him fighting not to smile as he took a bite and flipped us off. Too easy.  "Morning boys." Rebecca's grating voice pierced through my cheerful mood. Why was she here. Looking over I saw her wearing only a large t-shirt. Seriously? I glared at Alec. He couldn't have, could he? He squirmed under my gaze. I shook my head giving him a disappointed look that he pointedly ignored, looking down at his donut. I watched as she made her way towards Damien and leaned against him. "Did you get me breakfast too, Alpha?" She asked trailing her fingers up his arm. Alpha. Was that supposed to butter him up? Rolling my eyes a took another bite of my donut. "Come on how could you get her breakfast and not me?" This b***h. We all know who she spent the night with, and I'm sure Damien has higher standards then her. Though I thought that about Alec too, how wrong was I. Maybe I was wrong about Damien too. She pressed herself against him and looked at him through her lashes and though he was ignoring her, he didn't push her away. Maybe she was his type. I hadn't even realised I had been gripping Damien's thigh, hard, until his hand landed on top of mine and he gently pried my fingers off his leg. Why did I do that? "Rebecca." Damien voice held a warning. That didn't stop her from leaning closer to him. "I know something else that would satisfy me...and you." She licked her lips. The pit in my stomach grew and I knew I couldn't stay around her much longer. I needed some air. Finishing the donut, I pulled my hand from his grip and grabbed the coffee he had brought as I stood. "Thanks for breakfast." I mumbled and quickly headed out of the kitchen. "Roe, wait!" I heard Damien call but I ignored him. I didn't want to deal with him right now and I definitely didn't want to deal with Rebecca so early. There was not enough caffeine in the world for that. I shook my right hand out as I stormed out of the house. It killed today, but it was better then it should have been considering all the work we'd put in for the party last night. Was it actually getting better? Or was I just getting used to it? I should probably ask Dr Cora.  Slamming the front door behind me I decided to go straight to the clinic and see if she was free. I needed to put as much distance between me and that house as possible. So many questions were flooding my mind and I had no answers for any of them. At least Dr Cora might be able to answer some. Water began to hit my face as I walked between the buildings, a short cut I had found. When I heard a scream. Something in me snapped. I knew that sound. That wasn't just any scream. I headed towards it and found a guy pinning a girl against the wall. I didn't even think, my coffee forgotten, I just ran and held my arm tight against his throat before he could react. f*****g prick! How dare he! "Run" I shouted to the girl before the guy elbowed me in the ribs. So hard my grip on him faltered and he quickly span around to punch my face. A sickening crunch vibrated my skull as the pain began to spread. Stars invaded my vision.  "f*****g b***h!" He screamed at me as he held his hand. He didn't scare me. He was nothing but a coward. I was about to send my own fist to his face when an earth shattering growl came from behind me and I was quickly pulled away from him and turned to face Damien. Breathing heavily he took hold of my chin and gently turned my head so he could examine my cheek. His face was hard but I swear I saw worry flash in his eyes, before he pulled me behind him and turned his attention to the guy. He was fuming, it felt like it was radiating from him in waves. I stood in front of the vile guy, looking up at his smirking face. We were in Damien's office and I couldn't believe what had happened. The guy, Will, was getting off with a few hours of clerical work. Seriously! f*****g seriously! After what he did to that poor girl? I couldn't believe Damien. He tried to tell me that his hands were tied because of Will's father. What a pathetic excuse. Will could smirk all he wanted, he might think he was getting away scott free but I wasn't letting him off the hook. I don't care who his father is, he needed to be taught a lesson and I was beyond pissed at this point. Quickly I grabbed his groin, squeezing hard. A strangled noise came from his lips and his knees started to buckle. "If I hear that you've so much as breathed in a girls direction without her permission," My voice came out low and dangerously calm. I squeezed harder. "I will rip these off and shove them so far down your throat that you'll be tasting your own nutsack for years." I let go and he collapsed to the floor groaning, holding his crotch. "And you." I spat, turning to Damien's shocked face. Pointing my finger at him as I narrowed my eyes. "You might want to go and find your balls. You seem to have lost them!" I yelled and stormed out of the office. Ruthless my arse! Can't even do the right thing! On my way down the hall I walked into a man I could only assume was Will's father. He was a spitting image of his son. He grabbed my arm harshly. "How dare you touch my son!" The venom in his voice would probably make most people squirm, but I wasn't about to let him get to me. I pulled out of his grip and glared up at him. "I'm sorry if you didn't like the way I manhandled your son. But tell me this. If your wife was saying 'no' and a man ignored her, carried on touching her against her will, would you let him go?" His eyes darkened, fist clenched tight as his muscles began to shake in anger. "Precisely. The girls your son touches against their will, are someone's wives or daughters. So stop being a hypocrite and teach your son that lesson. Because if I have to teach it to him, it won't be pleasant." I left him to stew on my words and headed to the baths. I needed to calm down and water was always a comforting escape. I ran out of the house and the sky fell down around me. Thunder crashed and lighting streaked the sky. It matched my mood perfectly. Someone grabbed my arm and spun me around. "f**k off Damien!" I screamed at him trying, in vain, to get out of his grip. His hair was plastered to his face from the rain that was soaking us through. His chest was heaving just as much as mine. Why the f**k is he following me! "I made that decision to protect people, Roe!" He yelled. "To protect yourself more like!" "To protect you!" "I don't need protecting!" Closing the space between us, I slapped him. "FOR THE GODDESS' SAKE ROE!" He growled and before I could slap him again or even curse, he had swept me up into his arms and kissed me so fervently. I had never been kissed like this before. It was possessive, loving and full of heat. Damien was intense and hungry and yet surprisingly gentle. Shocked my mouth parted and he took it as an invitation to include his tongue. I tasted him on mine and lost it. My arms wrapped around his neck and my legs went around his waist. He held me close, one hand on the small of my back and the other on the back of my neck, deepening the kiss. This man. This infuriating man. He kept getting further under my skin. Breathless I pulled back, he trailed his lips along my jaw and down my neck, sending an unfamiliar wave of heat through me. "What am I going to do with you?" He mumbled in to my shoulder. What was I doing? This wasn't right. I wiggled in his hold until he let my feet plant firmly on the ground, but he refused to let me go. Stroking my good cheek he stared into my eyes. "I'll make this right, Roe." Sincerity thick in his voice. "Please forgive me?" "You better! The right thing isn't always easy, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it." I said breathlessly as I pulled out of his grip and turned back towards the house. What just happened?
