Chapter 1
Alec's P.O.V
The club was bustling with life as I made my way through the crowds, keeping an eye out for trouble. I moved from the main room that was blaring the latest dance remix and towards the stairs aiming for the smoking area. I needed some air, these places weren't the same sober and three fights in the first few hours just killed my mood. Luckily tonight it was mainly full of humans, no need to worry about walls getting damaged. I was halfway up the stairs when Robs voice came into my mind.
"Alec, check on Roe. Some guy just threw some paper at her and she looks pissed." Rob loves drama. And Roe usually kept him very entertained as he watched the cameras all night. I tried to hide my smirk as I changed direction and went up a different set of stairs towards the top bar. Typically I found her rushing about on her own with her bar packed 3 people deep. Why they never gave her any help, I have no idea. But she never complained and she was pretty good. "The guy in the white shirt at the far end" Rob answered before I could even ask. "She told him to apologise or shes not serving him" Laughing I leaned against the far wall and watched the guy as he kept trying to get her attention. Roe just kept ignoring him, serving everyone else. She wasn't like the other girls that Rob hired. They were all concerned about their appearance and trying to get the attention of every male in the building. The uniform was black jeans and a purple shirt that the girls would tuck or tie to show their stomachs. And they'd leave alot of buttons undone to show of their assets. Roe also left alot of buttons undone, but she wore a black top underneath and never let her stomach show. She was a small girl. Her straight brown hair hung down below her waist. She wore little to no makeup. She wasn't as skinny as the other girls, who were always dieting. Roe was still trying to gain weight after the state she we found her in.
Two months ago she was found in our territory, on a routine border check. She was covered in blood, she was skin and bones with raw skin on her wrists and ankles. Normally we would have just taken her to the human hospital and let them deal with it. Damien, our Alpha, has been away for three months helping another pack with most of our top warriors. He made the decision to help her as there was a clear scent of wolves on her. Wolves we don't recognise, so we took her in to find out what had happened. Harming humans was a crime, unless justified. But what justified her being kept in chains? We didn't know and neither did Roe when she woke up. In fact she cant barely remember anything before she woke up. She remembers her first name, that shes 22, that shes from the UK and that shes obsessed with butterflies. Though that's evident from the tattooed trail of pink butterflies that wind around her top right arm. So she ended up staying with us and Rob gave in and gave her a job. I looked at the guy again as he ignored his friend trying to get him to leave.
"Why doesn't he just go to one of the other bars in here?" I asked. There where 4 other bars in this club he could go to.
"That's exactly what she told him" I could hear him getting excited. "Get the popcorn ready, Alec.." I watched as the guy got more and more impatient while Roe just continued to serve, ignoring him. The queue grew smaller as everyone started to wander into other rooms. This room was for R&B and most of the people were only looking for a bar with space to get served. Once there was space, I moved and lent my elbows against the bar. The opposite side of the bar to white shirt guy. It was a long bar and could easily fit 15 people side by side. Roe saw me and immediately brought me an energy drink. She knew me well. All the bouncers were allowed unlimited soft drinks and we all came to Roe's bar because she was quickest at serving us. And she was fun to watch as she danced about while serving. Someone wolf whistled and I looked to see it was the guy in white. A low growl escaped my lips, but it was lost in the blaring music. How dare he whistle at her. Prick. "Alec, follow him when he leaves. We've got some manners to teach him." Rob growled through the link. I nodded at the camera. Roe was like a sister to me, but she was like a daughter to Rob and he wasn't going to stand for anyone disrespecting her. Roe looked back at me. Oh, she was pissed. She looked down for a second and then looked up with a mischievous glint in her eyes as she suddenly smiled sweetly and headed towards to guy. I couldn't help but smile as I wondered what she was up to.
Roe's P.O.V
Alec smiled as he took the drink from me. His short blonde hair slicked back as usual, his blue eyes looked black in the club lighting. He was a big guy at over 6ft and he clearly worked out. All the bouncers did to be honest, I'd walked past their training grounds enough times to catch them all together. But out of all of them I preferred Alec, he was alot easier to get along with. I had wondered who Rob would send to watch this time. I rolled my eyes at the camera. I was quite capable of looking after myself. But Rob was always protecting me. He'd become like a father to me. Hearing a whistle I looked at the other end of the bar to see the i***t in the white shirt still there, staring at me as he lowered his fingers from his mouth. Seriously? Did this guy seriously just whistle at me like I'm a dog. I looked at Alec as an idea formed. He raised his eyebrow as I smiled innocently and headed towards the i***t. I lent on the bar looking at him sweetly. Purposely pushing my boobs together and he smiled at the view of my cleavage. Ugh, it took everything in me not to roll my eyes.
"I'm sorry, did you want something handsome?" I asked fluttering my eyelashes at him. His eyes went wide for a second before a smug grin plastered his lips. He wasn't bad looking really. Carefully styled brown hair, clean shaven. I bet he spent more time in the mirror then most girls. I had no time for pretty boys who expected to get everything handed to them on a silver platter. Before he could respond I curled my finger in front of him, asking him to come closer. He licked his lips as he did and I hooked my fingers into the top of his shirt pulling him closer and leaned in to whisper in his ear while my other hand stayed under the bar. "Now what am I going to do with a boy like you? Oh, I know" I pull back biting my lip. As his eyes focus on my lips, I pick up the ice scoop that's in front of my other hand and quickly pour ice down his shirt and move back laughing.
"YOU b***h!" He screamed, but even his friend was laughing. He was holding his soaked shirt away from his skin trying to get the ice out. I quickly grabbed the soda gun a squirted cola at him. Ruining his white shirt. Tears pricked my eyes I was laughing so hard. "You'll pay for this!" He yelled just as Alec grabbed his arm to drag him out. He tried to resist, but there was no resisting Alec. I had yet to see him be bested by anyone. I waved as he continued to curse and struggle, watching as he disappeared from sight before I laughed again and continued serving.
The rest of my shift was uneventful and soon my bar was shutting down. Mine was always the last to open and the first to shut. Honestly five hours was enough for me. I had no idea what had happened before I woke up two months ago, but something had damaged my right hand. It constantly hurt, but the more I used it the worse the pain became. Tonight had been ridiculously busy and it was getting to the point were I couldn't use it because the pain was unbearable. I was finished cleaning when Alec showed up again with Jace in tow.
"So what goodies have you got tonight?" Jace asked as I reached under the bar for my stash of sweets. His eyes went wide as I placed the nearly empty bag of marshmallows and a half empty sharing pack of M&Ms on the bar. " Seriously woman, you could have saved us some" I laughed as he started shoving marshmallows into his mouth. Jace was as tall as Alec and just as built. He had black curly hair that reached his ears and brown eyes.
"Hey, it's not my fault you didn't come see me sooner" I shot back while taking a handful of M&M's.
"I thought we were getting pizza tonight?" Alec questioned watching us stuff our faces with sweets.
"You know I've always got room for pizza" I said while shoving another handful of sweets into my mouth. He just shook his head and snatched the bag of me to help himself. "I'm done here anyway, you guys ready?" They both just nodded with their mouths full. I quickly ran to the staff room to get my bag and say a quick goodbye to Rob. He was in the camera room as always. Rob was a man in his forties with long black hair he kept tied in a low ponytail. He was the reason I had a job, a home and friends. I have no memory of my life before two months ago. No idea who I was or what had happened. I was just so grateful to have been found and taken in by such caring people. Rob was like a father and I knew he'd scold me for what happened with the i***t, even if he deserved it. I didn't give him chance tonight. I quickly kissed his head while saying goodbye and running back to the guys. I did hear him shout to be safe.
Back at the house we were all sat in the living room. I say house, but it was more like a mansion. It was huge. The whole top floor belonged to Damien, he was the owner and had taken over the business from his father. From what I gather, Its a huge company and he provides housing for everyone in his employ. They all join us for breakfast in the huge dining room. My room is on Damien's floor. Alec and Jace share the floor below Damien's. Rob and his wife Julie, Damien's parents, live in the house next door. Julie treats me like a daughter just as Rob does. Shes a lovely woman with wavy brown hair. Rob clearly adores her. I pick up another slice of pizza and Alec snatches it from me. I glare at him and try to take it back.
"Haven't you eaten enough yet?" He laughed, easily dodging my attempts. "You know you should start acting more lady like with Damien coming home tomorrow" I just stare at him wide eyed before rolling my eyes and picking up my drink instead.
"Why? It's not like I'll be trying to seduce him. If he wants a girl who eats salad and drinks wine, he can look elsewhere." I take a long sip of my drink and raise it up. "I'm sticking to my rum" Jace laughs and Alec just shakes his head and eats my slice of pizza. "Wait, Damien's coming back tomorrow?"
"Yeah, the...uhm..takeover was successful" Jace says stealing the last slice of pizza. Nerves start creeping up on me at the thought of finally meeting the guy. This is the guy who allowed me stay here. The guy who's got people trying to figure out who I am. The guy who could just as easily throw me out. And from what I've heard he's ruthless in his business and takes no prisoners. What if he's changed his mind? What if he see's how broken I am and decided not to bother helping me anymore? A hand touches my shoulder breaking my train of thought.
"Hey, Roe don't panic" Alec smiles at me. He's one of the three guys who can touch me without me freaking out. I don't know why but men terrify me. I just scowl at him. Don't panic he says. As if it's that easy.
Damien's P.O.V
Running a hand through my hair I watch as the pack house comes into view. Three months away makes me long for my own room and the solitude it provides. Three months fighting rogues has been draining. The high from the victory has worn off and I'm aching for some peace and quite. It was worth it to help my sisters new pack defend themselves. First I've got to find out whats been happening while I've been gone. See if anything has been brought to light about the human girl. What coward keeps a human in chains? They can't defend themselves, wheres the challenge?
"Alec get everyone in my office. I do not want a welcoming comity." I link my beta. I want this over quickly. I deal with the rest of the pack for tomorrow. My wolf was driving crazy, pacing around. Muttering incoherently to himself.
"Of course Alpha" I walk towards the front door, glad I can't hear anyone behind it. Opening the door I'm hit with a delicious smell. Patchouli and honey. It's probably just one of Jasmine's perfumes she uses to fit in at school. My wolf is going insane and giving me a headache so I ignore him and head to my office. Mom immediately wraps my in a hug so tight I have to pry her off.
"Mom, we have important business to get to." I say moving towards my seat behind the desk.
"Yes, and it involves Roe so I'm staying" She crosses her arms and sits down next to dad. Who gives her a warm smile. "We want to know anything that has to do with Roe"
"So that's her name" I mutter to myself. "Alec?" Alec shifts looking uncomfortable before his hands clench into fists. It has to be bad if its making my beta act like this. He has always been the one to keep a level head, while I frequently lost to my anger.
"We know Roe was chained and starved. Cora recons she was held for around a month being fed just enough to keep her alive. She was clearly beaten as well. She has a few scars from old wounds. Her right hand was shattered. They tried their best to fix it and it is usable, but Roe is in constant pain with it. When Cora first examined her to asses the damage done, she.." Alec eyes turned black as he fought with his wolf. Looking around I saw my dad and Jace fighting with their wolves as well. My mom was on the verge of tears. My patience was wearing thin, what happened to this girl to get my family so worked up. "The bastards...they raped her!" Alec growled. Only the lowest of the low take whats not given. Pathetic scum.
"Are we any closer to finding them?" I yell. Balling my hands to fists as my body shakes with anger. Jace shakes his head and sighs frustrated.
"We know their scent but that's it. Roe remembers nothing before waking up in our clinic. We have no leads unless she remembers. She's had some vague memories come back but there's twenty two years of memories that we need to piece this together." Another growl escapes from me.
"Damien you need to tread carefully with her." I glare at my Mom but I see only worry in her eyes. I breathe deep and sit back down. "She knows she was chained and starved, she still has faint marks. She knows Alec found her in the forest, but that's all she knows. She doesn't know about us and we haven't told her about....that. But something in her knows."
"What do you mean? Either she knows what happened or she doesn't." All I wanted to do was rip someone into pieces. Mom moved and stood in front of the desk. She placed a file in front of me. Her face was now stern.
"This isn't black and white. It's not that simple, Damien. She doesn't remember, but her body does. Your father, Alec and Warren are the only men who can touch her without sending her into a panic attack. Though she's not all that keen on anyone touching her." She pointed at the file. "Read this. And do not loose your temper around her. She may seem strong but you need to remember what shes been through. Tread carefully" I looked at the file in front of me. Trying to control my anger. I'd read it later, I decided.
"Where is she now?" I asked looking at Jace. He looked at his watch.
"We sent her out for coffee. She was too nervous about meeting you. Though she should be back by now" Jace's brow furrowed still checking his watch
"She probably got distracted by the book shop. You know what she's like." Alec interjected. Smiling again. She had certainly made friends in my absence. I just glare at him hoping he didn't send her out alone. "Don't worry Jasmine's with..." A knock at the door cuts him off. That delicious smell is back and stronger. My anger is leaving me for anticipation and my wolf becomes excited.
"Enter" The door opens and Jasmines rushes in first and dishes out coffees immediately.
"Hey big brother, It's so good to see you." She squeals as she runs around the desk to hug me.
"It's good to see you too, sis," I hug her back. Then pull back confused because she doesn't smell of Patchouli and Honey. I look back at the room to see a small brunette handing coffees to Jace and Alec, a bag over her arm, Before she turns to me.
"See, I told you she'd end up in the book shop" Alec said but I barely heard him. My eyes where locked on her hazel ones. She was simply beautiful. My heart started pounding as my wolf screamed in my head.
"MINE" I growled. Her eyes widened and she stepped back.
"Damien" Mom scolded and I looked down ashamed at the fear in her eyes. s**t. "Roe, don't worry he's just a grump when he hasn't had enough caffeine." I wasn't used to feeling like this and I didn't like it. I want people to fear me. It keeps my pack safe. I looked up at her sheepishly.
"Yeah, he's almost as bad as you on a morning" Alec teased her. And Jace laughed. It took everything in me not to growl again. All I wanted to do was wrap my arms around her and never let her go. This so wasn't me. But the teasing seemed to help her. She glared at Alec before rolling her eyes and walking towards me holding out a coffee.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Sir." Even her voice was like music to my ears. She gave me a small nervous smile as took the coffee. Our fingers touched slightly, but it was enough to cause sparks to travel up my arm. It was such a pleasant feeling I didn't want to end. I heard her gasp as she look at me and then quickly remove her hand. Suddenly my fingers felt cold. I cleared my throat before daring to speak.
"It's very nice to meet you as well. I am sorry about my.. uhm outburst. It's been a long and tiring three months." I smiled at her and she smiled back. Oh her smile was infectious. I want her to always be smiling. Good grief what the hell has gotten into me. "And please call me Damien." Roe smiled again, another shy smile but she was so beautiful. My mate. I finally found her. What the f**k do I do now? And why the f**k is my hand killing?
