Roe's P.O.V
Damien's face was stuck in my brain. His vivid green eyes stared into mine all afternoon. It had been hours since I had met him, but his striking presence wouldn't allow me to forget him. Black hair that had that hot messy style. Strong chiselled jawline. Muscled arms that threatened to bust through his shirt. He was intimidating and seemed to ooze power and fury from every pore. He wasn't someone you messed with. A shiver went down my spine at the thought of getting on his bad side. But what were those tingles when our fingers touched? Why aren't I scared of him? Thinking about him was sending butterflies to my stomach again.
I had decided that I wanted to thank everyone for helping me out, so I had spent the last hour preparing dinner. It was a recipe I had remembered and trialled with Rob and Julie to make sure it was good enough. Though making it for 40 plus people was challenging, Julie helped thankfully. Everyone who lives nearby always comes for dinner. It was a lovely atmosphere, for the most part, as a lot of them work at the club too. The exception was Rebecca and her trio of girls who hang on her every word. They were always caked in makeup, hair and nails were perfect. Always following the latest fashion and diet trend. They hated me. I have no idea why. We started to take the dishes to the table as the dinning room began to fill up.
Damien's P.O.V.
After spending most of the day catching up on paper work, or tried to as the pain in my right hand just got worse as the day wore on, I found myself heading to the dinning room. My original plan of spending the day alone went out the window the minute I found my mate. If only I could have dinner alone with her without freaking her out. But surely the mate bond would mean she wasn't afraid of me. I shook out my hand as a wave of pain flooded my senses. What was this? I hadn't done anything to injure my hand. Even if I had, my wolf would have healed it.
"It's mates pain you dipshit" Demon yelled in my head. "f*****g useless" He muttered.
"What do you mean this is her pain?" She wasn't injured when I saw her earlier. Pain on this scale she would defiantly of had a bandage on.
"Moron. Alec said she has constant pain in her hand. Were you not listening? This is mates pain." Demon shook his head, pissed at me. Mangey mutt. But he was right. I knew he was right, I just couldn't bare to think of her in this much pain. How could anyone cope with this, never mind a human. I made my way into the dinning room and found everyone already there. The food was already on the table, but it wasn't on of our usual meals. It smelled heavenly though. I sent Alec a look as I sat at the head of table, but he just smirked at me. Just then Mom came out of the kitchen carrying a dish.
"Mom, did you cook?" I questioned. Mom was notorious for her bad cooking. She huffed as she placed the dish in the space in front of my plate.
"Of course not! Roe cooked it, I just helped." She smiled at me as she down next to my father. Roe cooked it? Why would she do that? We have chefs. "Roe said she wanted to thank us all for helping her." Mom answered my questioning look. Before I could respond Roe came out the kitchen with two dishes. A smile shy on her lips.
"I am not eating anything she made" Rebecca the slut voiced. "You know I'm on a diet" She glared at Roe who was walking towards her. A growl threatened to escape me. I've never like the slut, but how dare she speak to my mate like that. Roe's smile slipped and her steps faltered. Why doesn't she defend herself? Alec's voice broke through my voice as he mind-linked me.
"Dude, calm down, Roe's got this." I could hear the chuckle in his voice. I watched as she placed a plate in front of Rebecca. It held a small portion of the meal that was on the table. She smiled sweetly, though I noticed it reach her eyes.
"I know your dieting, but I didn't want you to feel left out. So I weighed that portion and worked out its 152 calories. That was tedious, but at least you can join in the meal now. I wasn't sure what diet your on this month, so your portion is also gluten free and low fat. Just to cover all bases." Roe smiled again before heading towards me and placing the other dish she was holding down. Garlic bread. Rebecca was fuming but she didn't say anything. It was a strange sight to see her tongue tied. Alec, Jace and dad were trying to hide their laughter. I found myself trying to hide a smirk.
"Killing her with kindness" Alec laughed in my head. I looked at Roe as she sat down next to me. She was nervous.
"You made this?" I questioned her. She looked down.
"I wanted to thank you, everyone, for helping me. For everything you've done to try and figure out what happened to me." Her voice was angelic. Her accent was one I hadn't heard before, but I could listen to it all day. My dad spoke before I could.
"Roe you didn't have to do this. You already pay rent and help look after the kids. That's already too much. But I have to say I'm excited to eat this again." Everyone started dishing out the pasta and passing along the garlic bread. I heaped a big portion onto my plate. It was some pasta dish in a white sauce. It smelt amazing.
"What do you mean she pays rent?" I mind linked my dad as I grabbed some garlic bread before passing it to Roe.
"She insisted on paying her way. That girl is more stubborn then you. She even convinced me to give her a job at the club and shes by far the best bar maid we've ever had. And before you start, the rent she pays just goes into a savings account I set up for her." Dads voice was laced with admiration. Roe's fingers brushed mine as she took the dish from me, sending sparks through me again. Another gasp escaped her lips and I looked up to see her blushing before looking away.
"Thank you Roe, but you didn't have to do this. " A smile played on my lips. "What have you made us?"
"It's cheesy fajita pasta. One of a handful of things I do remember. I Hope you like it" She bit her lip looking down as she gave herself a heaping portion. My eyebrow raised. No way she could eat that much. I took a bite and an appreciative moan escaped my lips. It was divine.
"This is delicious" I told her before practically inhaling it. I'd never had anything like it. I took a glance at her and caught her blushing. The blush only grew as she received more compliments on her cooking from around the table. Which continued even after all the dishes were empty. I was pleasantly surprised by how much Roe had actually eaten. She wasn't like the other women I'd met. My hand was still sore and I clenched and clenched it.
