Chapter 3: Introduce Yourself, Please

975 Words
"Damn it!" "Who's that woman?" "A newcomer?" "Why the hell am I being apprehended?!" A myriad of question marks floated through Li Ze's mind. He had just returned from his undercover mission, not even having the chance to celebrate with a drink, and now he was pinned to the ground by his subordinates? If this got out, it would become a laughing matter among his friends at the bar. "You..." Li Ze was about to speak. "Don't move!" *Click!* A pair of handcuffs clasped onto his wrists. "I..." Li Ze was speechless. "Get up!" For a murderer, Xiao Jun was not at all polite, hauling him up brusquely. "Lin Hao! You are suspected of murder. I, representing the East City Criminal Investigation Team, am arresting you now!" "You can remain silent, but from this moment on, everything you say will become testimony in court!" Listening to the textbook-like voice in her ears, Li Ze felt even more helpless. Clearly, this was a police school graduate who had only a few years of experience. Like many newly arrived subordinates, she was rigid and resentful of evil, lacking a bit of experience. Yet, it seemed she held a relatively high position. During his absence of three years, there seemed to have been quite a few changes in the team. "Lin Hao..." "Suspected of murder?" The next moment, Li Ze slightly furrowed his brow. Same name? Same residence? It shouldn't be that coincidental. But from what he knew about Lin Hao, the latter wouldn't do such a thing. That was strange. Could it be...? Thinking of a possibility, Li Ze's pupils narrowed slightly. This action caught White Xingyu's attention, causing him to momentarily hesitate. Seemed a bit familiar. However, he didn't dwell on it, his expression turning stern. The prime suspect of this case blatantly appeared at the entrance of the neighborhood, a massive provocation to the police. "Take him away!" Xiao Jun waved, preparing to take Li Ze back to the station. "Wait." Li Ze calmed down, looking somewhat serious. He glanced at the building Lin Hao lived in, falling into contemplation. It seemed that there was a murder in Huayang Community. Moreover, it was highly probable that it was in the house where Lin Hao resided. Seeing him and being promptly arrested, it was probably due to him wearing similar clothes captured on surveillance. Lin Hao was his apprentice; dressing similarly or alike was not surprising. With the neighborhood sealed off and fully inspected, it meant Lin Hao hadn't left, still within the community. He was just coincidentally present and mistaken for Lin Hao. In a matter of seconds, Li Ze deduced everything. And it aligned precisely with reality. This was the power of Li Ze's formidable thinking. Over the years, countless criminals have been astounded and terrified by his presence. Xiao Jun turned and sternly said, "Do you have anything else to say?" Li Ze glanced at Xiao Jun, chuckling softly. "How should I address the beautiful policewoman?" Furrowing her brow, Xiao Jun replied, "You talk too much!" Facing this attitude, Li Ze remained unfazed, speaking calmly, "Just a reminder, I'm a suspect, not a criminal." "Put it another way, even if I were a criminal, didn't I still have the right to speak?" "In most cases, it's better if a suspect talks rather than remains silent." "Was the East City Criminal Investigation Team always handling cases like this?" His words left Xiao Jun slightly dazed. The surrounding officers exchanged looks, casting a different glance at Li Ze, who, despite being arrested on the spot, could eloquently articulate such impactful words, indicating he was far from ordinary. White Xingyu grew even more suspicious, carefully appraising Li Ze. Not only did he feel this person was familiar, but his manner of speaking and attitude also struck a familiar chord. "Captain Fu!" "Captain Fu!" At this moment, several officers who were actively searching received the message and hurried over. Paying no attention to the crowd, Fu Xiaojun fixed her gaze firmly on the young man in front of her. After a moment, she spoke, "Fu Xiaojun, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Team of the Dongcheng Municipal Bureau." "Deputy Chief?" Li Ze was surprised and couldn't help but take another look at Fu Xiaojun. Beautiful in appearance, flawless in figure, quite an eye-pleasing sight. Unexpectedly, after three years away, the team somehow gained a police beauty. That old Liu finally did something worthwhile. Li Ze's scrutinizing gaze made Fu Xiaojun furrow her brows. It felt like an elderly person watching over a younger one. Or perhaps, a superior observing a subordinate. This made Fu Xiaojun uncomfortable. How does a murder suspect dare to act so arrogantly? "Seen enough?" Fu Xiaojun spoke coldly. Li Ze withdrew his gaze and nodded, "Seen enough." Fu Xiaojun asked, "Anything else do you want to say?" Li Ze nodded and said earnestly, "Two more sentences." Fu Xiaojun looked straight ahead, "Speak!" Li Ze pointed to the East Gate behind him and said, "If I'd already left the neighborhood, why would I return?" This question stumped Fu Xiaojun. Very simple, and an obvious point. Normally, Fu Xiaojun would never overlook this. But in her haste and upon hearing the suspect's description, immediately seeing Li Ze, it made her thought process stall, leading to a decisive arrest. In hindsight, it seemed too suspicious. If someone had escaped, why would they return? The surrounding officers exchanged puzzled looks, finding it difficult to comprehend. Li Ze smiled and said, "Second sentence: I am not Lin Hao." "Not Lin Hao?" Fu Xiaojun stared at Li Ze, coldly snorting, "Same clothes, same height. If not Lin Hao, then who are you?" Li Ze cleared his throat and said gently, "Allow me to introduce myself." "Li Ze, badge number ******." "Dongcheng Municipal Bureau, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Team."
