Chapter 1: Sudden Murder Case
On the evening of July sixteenth, the Eastern City Bureau received an alert about an indoor homicide at the Huayang Residential Area. Deputy Chief Investigator Fu Xiaojun personally led the team, rushing to the scene with the utmost haste.
It was Building Two, Unit 101. The scene had been cordoned off, onlookers being dispersed. Several officers surrounded the entrance. This was indeed the precise location reported by the informant.
Without any directives, they refrained from rashly knocking on the door. Accompanied by footsteps, a woman moved gracefully towards them. She had a tall figure, exquisite features, and the classic contours of an oval face. Her dark locks cascaded down her shoulders, the tailored leather jacket and denim jeans enhancing her charm and dignified presence.
Fu Xiaojun, an outstanding graduate of the Jingzhou Police University, had cracked numerous cases since joining the force. In a brief span of three years, she ascended to the position of Deputy Chief Investigator at the City Bureau. Though incomparable to the legendary figure of Li Ze, her achievements were already remarkably prominent.
As for Li Ze, he had vanished for three years, his whereabouts unknown to anyone. Fu Xiaojun had been hearing rumors about Li Ze since university, considering him as her goal, which led her to choose Eastern City. Regrettably, fate didn't grant her the chance to meet him.
"Deputy Fu."
"Deputy Fu."
A guard at the door spoke softly. Despite being young and a woman, her abilities were universally acknowledged. Even when facing the most heinous criminals, this young investigator had never shown fear.
Approaching, Fu Xiaojun commanded, "Knock on the door."
Thud, thud, thud!
No response.
Thud!
Thud!
Thud!
Still, there was no movement or sound.
Witnessing this, Fu Xiaojun decisively stated, "Force entry."
A homicide required resolute action. Whether it was a false alarm or not, they needed to enter first and ascertain.
"Understood."
The officer didn't hesitate, retrieving tools to forcibly unlock the door. Clearly trained professionally, within just a dozen seconds, accompanied by a "click" sound, the door lock yielded.
Bang!
The door was pushed open, and everyone swiftly entered, firearms in hand. Lowering their gaze to the living room floor, they found a man lying silently.
His eyes shut tightly, a pale complexion, blood flowing from his chest, staining the floor crimson. The wound was directly through the heart, causing his demise.
Seeing the scene in the living room, everyone's expressions changed abruptly.
"This..."
"Someone has been murdered!"
"Preserve the scene!"
A homicide was a grave criminal offense!
Fu Xiaojun was the last to enter. Upon seeing the body, she briefly paused, took a few quick steps to approach the body, and cautiously tested its temperature.
Then, her gaze shifted to the dagger dropped on the ground, its bloodstains even now slowly trickling.
Clearly, this was a recent killing!
"The perpetrator has just left, maybe... hasn't even departed yet!"
Fu Xiaojun's eyes turned cold. Suddenly standing up, she turned back and ordered sharply, "Seal off the entire compound. From now on, no one enters, everyone stays in!"
"Yes!"
An officer promptly left to execute Fu Xiaojun's command.
"Remain vigilant, search every room!"
"The killer is very likely still here!"
"Understood!"
All the officers within the house, armed with pistols, began a meticulous search. Under the bed, inside wardrobes, behind curtains, even within tiny boxes—nothing was overlooked.
Fu Xiaojun glanced around the room and then turned to say, "Bai Xingyu."
"Deputy."
A young man stepped forward. Bai Xingyu, an outstanding officer in the City Bureau's Criminal Investigation Team, was originally part of Captain Li Ze's core team.
His thinking might be limited, but his execution is formidable, and his physical fitness is exceptional. During police drills, he's almost always in the lead.
In his mind, Li Ze is the person he admires most. Yet, it's been three years, and he's clueless about where Li Ze disappeared to. The directives from higher-ups are stringent, offering no information whatsoever.
Regarding Fu Xiaojun, he doesn't particularly fancy her; it's merely a matter of duty, obeying orders.
Fu Xiaojun glanced at him and said, "Check the owner of this house and the surveillance. See if anyone entered or left within the past hour."
"Okay."
Bai Xingyu nodded and turned away.
Time passed slowly, and soon, almost all the officers had finished their search, ultimately stopping at the study's entrance.
Here, there was a window leading outside, but being on the first floor, it had a closed iron grille to prevent theft.
"Click, click!"
An officer grabbed the doorknob and found it locked!
"It's locked. Stay vigilant!"
Upon hearing the noise, Fu Xiaojun hastened from the living room.
"Kick the door!"
At that moment, they couldn't overlook any possibility.
"Yes!"
Following the order, the officer stepped back and forcefully kicked the door open.
But...
No one was there.
They scanned the room, and eventually, their gaze converged on the window.
There, a steel pipe that had fallen to the side was still slightly swaying.
Clearly, someone had forcibly broken through the anti-theft net and fled!
This sight made Fu Xiaojun's expression stiffen. Without any hesitation, she ordered sternly, "Chase!"
Five minutes later.
Fu Xiaojun led the team to an open area within the compound.
There were no suspicious individuals spotted for now.
Not far ahead was the east gate of the compound.
Huayang Residential Area had three gates: the main gate, east gate, and west gate.
The compound's security was great, with strict perimeter walls and sharp obstruction nets. It was impossible for outsiders to scale the walls. Likewise, those inside couldn't escape by climbing over.
To leave, they had to use the gates.
"Is the compound sealed off?"
Fu Xiaojun inquired.
An officer responded, "It's sealed. There's no way he could have left!"
Hearing this, Fu Xiaojun nodded slightly, her expression stern.
Tonight, they will unearth this person no matter what!
On the other side, not far from the east gate of the compound, a young man wearing a baseball cap leisurely approached.
He had on a gray top and dark trousers. As he neared the gate, he glanced up.
"Finally coming to an end, these endless days."
"Old Liu is really unreliable, promising a Level 3 Police Supervisor and stringing me along for three years."
This person was Li Ze in disguise.
The "Old Liu" he referred to was Liu Changlin, the chief of the City Bureau and his immediate superior.
