CHAPTER 9 – Claimed by Command

565 Words
The Alpha Council convened before noon. Arielle stood at the center of the stone chamber, the circular room carved with ancient runes that hummed faintly beneath her feet. Twelve Alphas watched her from raised seats, their gazes sharp, curious… threatened. She felt it clearly now. Fear. “An Omega does not counter Alpha authority,” one of them said coldly. “She stopped an arrow without touching it,” another added. “That power should not exist.” Arielle lifted her chin. “Neither should silence in the face of an attempted murder.” Murmurs rippled through the chamber. Alpha Kael stood beside her—unmoving, unreadable. His presence wrapped around her like a shield she hadn’t asked for but couldn’t deny. The bond pulsed painfully tight, reacting to the tension, to the proximity. “The council demands restraint,” the lead Alpha said. “Until we understand what she is, she must be bound under authority.” Kael’s jaw tightened. “She will not be caged.” “Then she will be claimed,” the Alpha countered. “Temporarily. For control.” Silence crashed down. Arielle’s heart skipped. “Claimed?” Eyes turned to Kael. Temporary claims were rare—and dangerous. They didn’t mark flesh, but they anchored power, tying a volatile wolf to an Alpha’s dominance to prevent loss of control. It was intimate. Too intimate. Kael’s voice was low. “You’re asking me to tether myself to her.” “You’re already tethered,” Lyra’s voice rang from the side, sugar-laced and poisonous. “Whether you admit it or not.” Kael’s eyes flashed—but he didn’t deny it. The council waited. He turned to Arielle. For the first time since the rejection, his voice softened—just slightly. “This will bind our power. You’ll feel me. All the time.” Arielle swallowed, pulse racing. “And you’ll feel me.” “Yes.” The bond surged violently, heat spiraling through her body, curling low and dangerous. Her instincts screamed yes and run all at once. “If this is the only way,” she said quietly, “then do it.” Kael exhaled sharply. He stepped closer, placing a hand over her heart—not touching skin, but close enough that she felt the burn of him. Silver light erupted between them, spilling across the floor in twisting runes. The chamber shook. Arielle gasped as power slammed into her—not painful, but overwhelming. Kael’s presence flooded her senses: strength, restraint, hunger, fury… and something he tried desperately to bury. Need. Kael stiffened as well, his breath turning uneven. “Goddess help us,” he muttered. The light snapped inward. Silence. When it ended, Arielle nearly collapsed—but Kael caught her, his arm wrapping around her waist instinctively. The contact sent a violent spark through both of them. Too much. Too close. Too intimate. Slowly, Kael released her and turned back to the council, voice iron-hard. “She is under my authority. Any harm to her is a challenge to me.” No Alpha argued. As they left the chamber, Arielle felt it clearly now—the bond had changed. It wasn’t just a pull anymore. It was a lock. And somewhere deep in Lyra’s gaze as she watched them walk away together, Arielle saw it— The certainty that this bond would be broken in blood.
