Chapter 5 Wearing her full army green military uniform with her insignia, her imposing and majestic aura screams roughness and authority. She looks so beautiful with her hair in a carousel braid. The lightning-shaped scar on her left eye would always make people adore her beauty even more. It distinguishes her feature that having that scar made her stand out above anyone and complemented her hazel eyes. Though she doesn't care if it ruins her beauty. Anyone would want to pinch her naturally rosy cheeks but because she's standing there showing a stern look, they are intimidated by her presence. She pursed a smile enough for everyone to see her deep dimple. "I wish you all the best, Aly," the governor broke the silence. She hangs her medium-length hooded cloak on her shoulders to hide her insignia and faced the governor. Her lips parted but she didn't speak up. She just flashed a simple smile. The governor's eyes were full of adoration and worry. He knows how dangerous this expedition but he has no choice but to assign Alyxia to this. Right now, he is doubting the whole organization and Alyxia is his only hope. A loud squeal and heavy gallop of the horse caught their attention. All members of her unit panicked and were forced to move their horses aside when the horses started to panic too. A wild white horse came without a rider forcing his way into the middle of their line. One of the hostlers came after, riding another horse as he screams at top of his lungs. "Move! That horse is untamable! He just got out of the stable!" Then people watched the white horse in awe. When the white horse is kilometers away from Alyxia, he started walking. Alyxia and the governor were standing in the middle while watching how the white horse strutted its way into the middle of the road to come near his owner. The governor stepped back after he recognized it while Alyxia stepped forward to welcome it in her arms. The phenomenal and untamed male white horse named Stiffan is Alyxia's horse. She named it Stiffan because the horse is stiff and wild. She's the only one who can tame and ride him without meeting an accident. Stiffan stopped in front of her, posing his usual snob and proud poise. A chuckle escaped from Alyxia's lips before patting and caressing his face to tell him that he was fine, he did great escaping from the horse stable, and she acknowledged his excellence in finding her. She put her forehead onto his while caressing his face. Governor Stephen coughed. "Aly, I know how much you love that horse but isn't it dangerous if you ride him on this expedition?" he asked worriedly. "Stiffan will always find a way to follow me. I will be more comfortable riding him instead of riding another horse," she replied respectfully. The governor shrugged. After what happened, Alyxia and her unit departed. He watched them leave until he can no longer sight them. Second Lieutenant General Aligate draws near him. "Governor, it's time to start the meeting with the officials of Rustes Town," he informed him. The governor nodded and heaved a sigh. "Prepare some goods as a gift for the town's people." "Right away, governor." — Planet Eurium | Polar Forest, East Area| Year 3038 Alyxia and her unit have begun their journey. They are heading to East Area. Their goal for this expedition is to successfully prevent the opening of the three portals in the East Area. Aside from that, they'll be annihilating demons too. She has planned everything out. After days of preparing for this expedition, she found a new goal. They are miles away from where they'll be camping. It's getting dark. Stiffan stopped so Alyxia looked back to see if her members are complete. "What's the matter, Prime Lieutenant Governor?" asked Colonel Katara. She ignored what she has called her. "Don't let your guard down." Alyxia signaled Corporal Becket to lead the way. He followed her since he was already familiar with how she led her unit. Stiffan is sensitive and Alyxia acknowledged him as her radar. If he shrieks, there's a threat nearby. "Colonel Katara, I want you to lead your unit and your sub-unit. Follow Corporal Becket and form two lines," Alyxia commanded. They followed her command. "Let only two of your members protect the cargo. The rest, position on the back in front of me." Colonel Katara eyed her with complete abruptness but instead of complaining, she followed her order and picked two chemists among her members to look after their cargo. Other members wonder why she would think that way. If only two people, how can they protect the cargo if a group of brigands ambushes them? They won't be dealing with brigands but demons. Four horses shrieked including Stiffan. They heard a loud growl nearby. Corporal Becket draws out his double claw followed by his members. Alyxia gropes her bow and arrow. Her long katana hangs on the side of her waist but she won't use that for now. "Listen, if Stiffan answers the next growl, I want you to look around you and be prepared to fight demons," Alyxia said calmly as she positions her horse on the back of their line, tailing them while preparing to aim her bow and arrow in any direction. They are in the middle of a dense forest. If they won't encounter any demons, they'll arrive at the boundary between Eastern Monarchy and Eastern Metropolis at midnight. Another growl and Stiffan shrieked louder than before. "Aly!" Corporal Becket would always shout her name if he just had a visual. That's their drill before. "Alright! Everyone, if you see any figure, report the exact direction!" The sun has set. The darkness ruled all over the place. They lit their torches but not enough to sight enemies that are six kilometers away from them. "Two o'clock!" Brigadier General Qyn reported followed by other members. "Five o'clock!" "Twelve o'clock!" "Nine o'clock!" All twenty-five of them had a visual. On Alyxia's left side, two kilometers away from her showed three animal figures with small yet sharp horns all over their body. They both possess full crimson red eyes, long horns, and long and sharp fingernails, and their unpleasant smell reeks. She draws three of her arrows and aimed in their direction. Without holding back, she releases them and hit the weak spot of the demons that turned them into ashes. "This is bad, we are surrounded." One of the members' remarks made the others tremble in fear. They are surrounded by demons. They don't even know how many demons will attack them. "Don't panic! No long-range weapon for Corporal Becket's members!" Alyxia put down her bow and arrow as she silently draws out her long katana. "Right now, they are waiting for their leader's signal. Let's use that to our advantage. Center the cargo but don't focus on protecting it if demons attack us first." They all know the basics since they graduated from the Military Academy. Demons can only be killed if you s***h their neck or target their weak spot at the center of their abdomen. They don't regenerate and as soon as your weapon slashes their neck or hits their weak spot, they will turn into ashes. There are only two demon ranks. Lower-ranked demons are those who have no will to think on their own. They attack humans aggressively and easily. Higher-ranked demons have a leader they follow or act as a leader themselves. They know when to attack. All of them have the same traits except that they have different skin colors and they are ranked based on their strength and intellect. Corporal Becket's and Brigadier General Qyn's members surround the cargo, as Alyxia, and Colonel Katara's members. To put it simply, Divisions under the leadership of Royal Ministers are more efficient in using long-range weapons like bows and arrows, lightning spears, and thrust spears. They specialized in poisons and antidotes, and even making traps. Most of them are chemists. Meanwhile, divisions under the leadership of Elite Officials and Military Officers are good at close combat. Three out of ten members under Colonel Katara are arch knights. The rests are spear users and chemists. Three demons appeared two o'clock from where Brigadier General Qyn is standing. She is fast enough to react and slashed their neck using her twin sword. And then demons show themselves up in all directions. Corporal Becket jumped off of his horse. He landed on the center of seven demons and twisted himself three times. Using his double claw, he annihilated them at a fast pace. Everyone is fighting demons. They no longer feel fear because if they act recklessly, demons won't show mercy. Alyxia maneuvered Stiffan while slashing demons who gets in her way. She made her way to the left side of Corporal Becket. She kicked the demon who was about to bite him and jumped off of her horse enough to pierce her long katana on the center of the demon's abdomen, and the demon turned into ashes. The fight continued as three of her members got bitten by demons. She has to protect them to not lose them completely. Demons kept on attacking. Their long and sharp fingernails are like poison that paralysis the human body. Two of Alyxia's members fell as their bodies got paralyzed together with the three who got bitten. The other two who were protecting the cargo immediately secure their comrades who are in critical condition. A violet ray of light from their northern east caught their attention. "It's the first portal. If this continues, we will lose half of our members," Alyxia whispered to herself. "I think lower-ranked demons are forcing their way out. The ray of light is not that wide enough to summon higher-ranked demons," Brigadier General Qyn voiced out her observation. True enough, those demons who attacked them were all three times aggressive. They all glanced at Alyxia. She replaced her long katana with a bow and arrow and lit the three arrowheads and aimed it in the direction where most of the demons are coming from. A total of fifteen demons become visible as the light illuminates them when her arrows directly hit the weak spot of the three demons among them. "We have no time to analyze if they are lower-ranked demons or not. Five of our comrades are in critical condition. I need to change our formation and secure our camp as soon as possible!" she announced while she lit another three arrowheads and releases them at one time, hitting another three demons' weak spots that turned them into ashes. — Planet Eurium | Eastern Metropolis, East Area | Year 3038 "Do we have to follow him around?" complained Sergeant Bryce Holden. "Of course! In case he finds her, we will stop him from killing that poor girl," Corporal Bryant Jones replied. Peeking at the entrance of the famous Charlotte Pavilion in Eastern Metropolis, they watched their commander in awe. He surveyed the people in the whole corner of the pavilion. He didn't care if he is disturbing other customers. The commander is searching for a specific girl who swiped his bag. It was filled with money and it is very important to him because he will donate it to the orphanage of this city. "That girl is a lump of dead meat. She's not informed that she just messed with the wrong person," Private First Class Eva Edden said followed by her sweet chuckles. These people are members of the Survey Corps. Survey Corps is a special survey team under Division Two of the Supreme Division. Members are selected hunters from different divisions. This group consists of only six members including their commander. Unlike other officials, they are less interested in their rank even though they are officials of the Supreme Division. All of them use different weapons such as advanced weapons like guns, swords, spears, and bows and arrows. They are also skilled in mixed martial arts, making traps, gathering information, medicines, and poisons. Their group was formed eight years ago so all of them are close to each other. The members of the Survey Corps are assigned to patrol in Eastern Metropolis by their commander. They will begin to seal the nearby portal tomorrow. After securing the whole city, they decided to follow their commander. It happened that some random girl swiped his bag. The girl ran and was cornered to Charlotte Pavilion. She has the chance to hide since the place is huge and there are thousands of customers. That explains why they are in this situation. It's so unfortunate to encounter this kind of problem. They are supposed to rest but instead of spending their night peacefully, they can't relax knowing that their commander is fuming mad. Captain Esmeralda Alvin sighed. "We should start tackling the other unit that will be camping at the boundary between Eastern Metropolis and Eastern Monarchy. What if they can't seal the second portal near Polar Forest?" she said worriedly. The other four members darted their eyes at her. "I thought Licht turned down that mission? We are here to secure this city before sealing the first portal then tasked to come back to the main headquarters to prepare for our eighty-fifth expedition," said Commander Alvarez Asunsion. "No! We are asked to meet up with that unit in the third portal." Esmeralda shook her head. Among them, Esmeralda is the closest member to their commander. She is also their youngest member. Supreme Commander Reagan Licht Camden is the commander of the Survey Corps. Everyone knows he's not friendly and is known to be very elusive to his colleagues except to those members of the Survey Corps. He is very strict and a short-tempered commander when it comes to leading other units. The only person he follows is the Supreme Governor, Governor Stephen Craig VII of Hailbough Town. He was indeed supposed to turn down the mission but after hearing that it is the governor's order, he immediately took back his words and led Survey Corps. BOOOOM! A loud explosion from the other side of the pavilion caught their attention. A moment after the explosion, people started panicking when demons appeared from the explosion and attacked them.
