Prologue
Xander POV
Staring out my office window, I can see the sun beginning to set over the mountains. The sky has now turned orange with streaks of pink. Bidding the end of yet another day.
I can here my younger brother, Xavier, going on about meetings and events we have coming up this month. We have been successfully running our father's company together for four years now. King Industries has been in our care ever since our dad died. Alexander King, our father, was the greatest man and business man I knew. My only goal is to make his company the best there is. Trust me, I've been doing a damn good job at maintaining my goal.
My thoughts are interrupted by my brother mentioning a charity event located in a smaller city in rural Colorado.
"No." I say in an bored tone. As I turn to look at him.
Xavier is giving me a pointed glare. His crystal blue eyes, same as mine, are slightly red from exhaustion. Probably from the long work day. I take in his tired appearance for the first time since he entered my office. His dark brown hair is disheveled, a scruffy five-o-clock shadow covers his sharp jaw, and the top few buttons of his shirt are undone. His tall frame is leaned back on my office couch while his legs are extended wide.
Still glaring, he tells me in a clipped tone "This charity is for a good cause. It will make the company and our family look good. We haven't done as much charity work this year, so we need to do something! I already reviewed the details and contacted the charity coordinator."
"I thought Mom always handled charities and donations... did she approve it?" I asked.
"Mom is still on vacation, she asked me to handle it." He replied. Why is he still glaring? He must be tired... maybe hungry too.
"Oh. Well, I can not go to some rural city to the west. I have meetings for our European expansion to handle." I explain in an annoyed voice.
"Figures! You stay here and cover that. I'm going to go enjoy myself at this black tie charity event. You would just annoy me anyway!" he huffed.
There was a few moments of silence while we looked at each other. Finally he asked, "Can we go home and eat now?! I knew I should have driven myself. You always stay late!" Yep! My little brother is tired and hungry!
