The smoke still hung heavy over the battlefield, clinging to the trees like the ghost of the slaughter. Wolves limped through the c*****e, their howls low and mournful, carrying the names of the fallen. The scent of blood soured the air, sharp with iron and decay.
Seren stood at the edge of the clearing, her body trembling with exhaustion. Her hands were streaked black from vampire ash, her eyes burning from smoke. The fire inside her had guttered to embers, leaving her hollow, raw.
