32 EMERALD LAKE Wenner hurried back to the Wildlife Centre. He was on a mission. Travelling as quickly as he could with his jacket wrapped around the injured bird under one arm and a cane in the other hand, he felt frustrated with his handicap. Life and death were in his hands, and he hated that his physical disability slowed him down. Once he reached the Centre, he called Chelsea. It was her day off, but he asked if she could assist him with a surgery right away.
