34 EMERALD LAKE Wenner placed the load of laundry into the washing machine and turned it on. As he entered the kitchen, there was a knock at the door. Startled, he headed to see who it was. I didn’t hear a car on the gravel driveway; must have walked in. He answered the door to a tall, lean man. His hair was cut short on the sides with a longer wave of dark hair that fell across his forehead to one side. Striking blue eyes stared at him from beneath the hair. Wenner took it all in, in a matter of seconds. His whole look fit the modern-day style of young men in their twenties and thirties.
