Warping

LEXI POV I turned around to see the blonde beauty that I had headed up here to find. My wolf was bouncing around in my head, going crazy and giving me a headache. I can normally think on my feet, but my brain was all foggy and I couldn’t get over the smell of this amazing looking man. He was taller than my six feet by quite a bit and very broad, but totally built like a tank. I could see the outline of his pectoral muscles through his thin t-shirt. I leaned into him, sniffing him like an i***t. I just wanted him to hold me. “What are you doing?” His eyes narrowed as he saw the cuffs in my hand. I cleared my throat. “Kevin Wagner, you’re under arrest.” With difficulty I turned my back on my mate, returning my attention to Kevin. He was watching the interaction between me and Blondie with interest and he didn’t seem too concerned that I was there. “The Bounty Hunter is your mate? That’s kind of f****d up.” He smirked at Blondie. I focused, getting pissed. I flicked my hand and collapsed the table on his legs, effectively trapping him. I moved to approach him but Blondie got in my way. “No. Not today.” He flicked his hand and the table lifted up and crashed into the wall. Kevin stood up. “Thanks, cuz.” Well, damn. This was not going how I expected it to. “Move out of my way.” I growled at Blondie, no longer enamored with the mate bond. I was too mad for that. “No.” He stood in my way as Kevin stood up and, putting his hands on the railing, vaulted over the edge landing lightly on his feet on the dance floor below. I lowered my body and swept my feet out, kicking at Blondie’s feet, expecting to knock him on the floor. I needed him out of the way so I could go get Kevin. He reacted instantly, dodging and countering immediately. I pulled out one of my daggers and flung it at him and he flicked his hand, sending it quivering into the wall beside us. I pulled the other and, hanging on to it, lunged at him, feigning to the right and moving left. He initially dodged left, which was my intent, but then understood and moved so my knife sliced through his sleeve but caused no damage. We were locked in a stalemate. I was angry enough to want to cause some serious damage to him and I could feel his frustration with me. I flicked my fingers to send three drinks flying at him. He dodged two but one clocked him on the side of the head, giving me the satisfaction of seeing him drenched. I could hear Hagrid coming to my aid, bulldozing up the stairs. Blondie also realized that it would soon be two against one. He waved his hand and three tables came flying at me. I put up my arms to shield myself and when the last one crashed to the ground I realized that Blondie had done what Kevin did, vaulting over the railing and disappearing into the crowd. “You good?” Hagrid pulled me up off the ground and tugged my dress back down, covering my ass. “Yeah. Let’s get out of here.” I wasn’t eager to stick around and have my name be put down on a black list. Bars aren’t my scene but bad guys like to hang out in them, so I needed access. We made our way over to the stairs but I could already see security coming up. We stepped back and I realized the situation was more serious than I thought. I backed into Hagrid, my back to his front and told him “Grab me.” He knew what to do. We’ve had to use this particular power of mine a few times and neither of us liked it but it does come in handy. He picked me up under my arms and I closed my eyes and concentrated. After a few seconds I felt Hagrid start to move. I kept concentrating, trusting him to get us out of there, unseen. After what seemed like an endless time, I felt myself being laid down. “We’re good,” Hagrid grunted. I relaxed and immediately passed out, knowing Hagrid would get me home safe. I woke up the next morning in my bed, pajamas on and my phone next to me on the nightstand. I had four missed calls, all from my dad. I sighed and dialed him. “You’re late. What’s wrong?” “No hello?” I teased him gently. “You’re never late so I know something’s wrong.” He sounded frantic. Poor guy. “Didn’t you talk to Hagrid?” I wondered why he didn’t update my dad. “He didn’t answer his phone either. I tracked your signal and if it was anywhere but your apartment, I would have come in with the calvary.” I sat up and stretched. “Sorry. Things got a little crazy last night and I needed to do some Warping to get us out of there. Covered Hagrid and me and it took a lot out of me. I don’t even remember getting home last night. I’m guessing he called his boyfriend to help put me to bed because someone hung up my dress and took off my shoes. Hagrid’s not a hanging up a dress kind of guy.” “Am to.” I looked up to see my giant bodyguard standing in the door of my bedroom with a tray in his hands. I could smell waffles and coffee. “He’s lying.” A lily white man with blood-red eyes poked his head around Hagrid. “Hey-ya Lexi!” “Hey, Nigel! Good to see you! Thanks for the waffles!” I hung up the phone with my dad and dug into the platter of food, finishing all six waffles, much to Nigel’s delight. He was a sous chef at an upscale Italian restaurant downtown and the man could cook. I loved it when he took over my kitchen. Thirty minutes later I was up, showered, dressed and hard at work on my computer, accessing as much information about Kevin Wagner as I possibly could. I was running a few facial recognition programs on some of the pictures that were posted, hoping to find some leads. I also sat and thought about Blondie. That was super awkward. I couldn’t be mated to a criminal, nor could I mate someone who habitually helped criminals. I wasn’t sure who this man was and I was hoping I didn’t run into him again. I wasn’t even sure he was a wolf anymore. I could smell his wolf, but it might have been the Glamour that was deceiving me. No wolf that I knew of had the power of telekinesis, only fairies. And most fairies were able to do Glamour. It was the simplest of the magic. My wolf was very quiet today and she and I were going to have to have a long talk about this. I didn’t want a mate. I had no time nor did I have any desire to share my life with anyone. I liked things the way that they were.
