Vanessa Taylor was married to her college sweetheart, Larry Thompson, for six years after two years of courtship. However, just a year after their wedding, Larry abandoned Vanessa, devoting his time and attention to his first love. On the day she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, her husband was taking care of his first love and her daughter. Vanessa is ready to divorce Larry but he refused vehemently, claiming that she belonged to him and he could do whatever he pleased with her. "Well at least when I die, I'll be free from this hell…"Those were Vanessa's last words as she was hit by a truck. After her accident, Larry started to regret all he had done to her during their marriage and started wishing he could have another chance to make things right.

01. The Diagnosis.
-The city of Brimesville- -January 01, 2024- -02:37pm- 'What am I doing…? What exactly is my purpose…? Why am I here…?' Those were the questions that had been on my mind for more than a little while. I was always wondering why I was living, where my place was… if I had any place to begin with. Other than my name and a necklace I got from my father, I had nothing else of my own. No friends, no family…nothing! So why the hell had I been holding on? What had I been holding on to? I knew the answer before I even asked the question. Hope. I was holding on to the hope that my life would receive a turn around eventually. Growing up I always heard people say something ;At the end of every tunnel, there was always light. I was waiting for that light, I was waiting, praying, hoping for that light to finally manifest in my life. But it turns out that I was just being delusional. Maybe I was never in a tunnel to begin with, but a hole instead. A hole that had been dug deep underneath the surface of the earth, and had been forgotten by all. "Ah…this it it…" I could feel myself losing my consciousness. My body was engulfed in a deep chill, one that couldn't be dispersed by covering up or taking a hot shower. It was a deep, icy feeling that enwrapped my entire body with a feeling of helplessness and loneliness. I could feel my dress getting wetter and wetter, and the pool of red body fluid around me kept getting wider and wider. My vision started to blur and no matter how hard I tried to talk, my voice just wouldn't come out. I could hear the screams and murmurs of the panicking pedestrians and car owners but after a while, even that was drowned out too, leaving me all alone with a deafening silence. Soon, I succumbed to the darkness as I closed my eyes to take in my final breaths. "Well, at least when I die…I'll be free from this hell…" *** -The city of Brimesville- -Wook's Pharmaceutic and Therapeutic Services (WPTS)- -February, 03, 2023- -03:56pm- "Mrs Thompson, I'm afraid you have congestive heart failure." This was it. The day my life took a turn for the worse. As I laid there on the hospital bed, listening to the doctor's diagnosis, I felt my world crumble down to nothing. "This condition has multiple causes, but it seems in your case, it was caused by high blood pressure. When a person has high blood pressure, it forces the heart to work harder than it normally does. And considering the rate at which the blood pressure increases, the heart is damaged overtime and it becomes too weak to do its job. In addition to your high blood pressure, the anti depressants also played a huge part in the birth of this delicate condition, so for your own good, I'd like to ask you to put a stop to those medications. Now I know this must be scary since it sounds like a big deal, and I won't tell you it isn't. About fifty percent of patients with this condition don't last more than five years after diagnosis. Then about thirty five percent last up to ten years. Although it might not be an impressive figure but, about fifteen percent last longer than ten years. With adequate treatment, a surgery and a change in their lifestyle, they're able to push past the limit. Mrs Thompson, I believe you can be a part of that fifteen percent." The doctor kept trying to encourage me but all that was in my head was that I was going to die. After living a pathetic lonely life, I was going to die…and there was nothing I could do about it. "Thank you doctor Wook." I said with a forced smile. "You don't have to thank me, I'm simply doing my job." He replied with a firm voice. "What about your husband? We called him about an hour ago and he's still not here." My husband…sure I was Mrs Thompson, but it was only by name. "He…he must be really busy, otherwise he would have been here by now." I lied. One hour ago I woke up in a hospital ward, apparently I had passed out on the road and the doctor was kind enough to take me to the hospital where he worked. Two hours. I was unconscious for two whole hours befire I finally came around, and the second I did, I called my beloved husband to let him know what had happened. "You're at a hospital? I hope you're not pregnant. Well even if you are, do the right thing and get yourself back to the house. I'm hosting my friends for dinner and I expect a sumptuous delicacy when I get back." And with that, he hung up. I tried calling him a few times after that but as usual, there was no response. Unable to tell that to the doctor, I lied hat he said he was on his way. One hour later, I was still alone. "Well, I guess I can begin with the treatment for now and I'll fill him in when he gets here." Doctor Wook said, scribbling something down on his notepad. "There's no need for that, I don't plan on getting any treatment." I said, forcing myself to sit up. "What? But without treatment your condition will only get worse. Forget five years, you might not even last two!" What was I supposed to say? I had no family, and it would be foolish of me to expect that the man who never showed me a pinch of love in our marriage would offer to pay for my treatment. "I understand doctor Wook. Thank you for your time." I got up to my feet, picked up my bag and started to walk out. "Do I owe you for anything now?" I decided to ask, even though I had no way of paying. After our marriage, my husband suggested we have a joint account, and out of love, I agreed without thinking twice. What I never knew was that he made himself the sole signatory to the account, and even though I had a fairly large amount of money there, I couldn't access it without his permission. "No, you don't." He replied, then added. "But I'd really like you to think carefully about getting the treatment." "Hmm." I smiled, though it was obvious that it was a fake one. After I left the hospital, I decided to try one more time. Maybe if he saw the amount of missed calls, he'd pick up. After two tries, he answered and my heart felt lighter. Maybe he did care about me after all. "Hello?" My heart sank to my feet as I heard the voice of a woman from the other end. "Vanessa, why can't you take a hint? You've been calling him all day and he didn't pick up, shouldn't you use your initiatives and realize that he doesn't want to talk to you?" Based on the way she talked, I knew it was her. His ex lover. On the day I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, my husband, Larry Thompson, was taking care of his ex lover.
