It Wasn’t Supposed To Be Like This

Chapter 15

*Averys point of view*

Avery you have to keep fighting don’t give up.

M-what? Who is this where am I?

C-It’s Clarice, Avery please you have to hold on.

M- what do you mean hold on? I haven’t let go.

C-You’re starting to though please hang on.

I looked around and could only see a black abyss, I didn’t know where I was but something didn’t feel right. I felt empty. My pup oh please let my pup be okay. I walked around searching for a way out but I was only met with more darkness. As I continued walking and searching I stumble upon a wolf. It looked strangely familiar.

“Who are you?” I walked closer to the wolf, it almost resembled Clarice. The closer I got, the further away the wolf seemed to get.

“Who are you?” I asked again almost yelling. Why was this wolf getting further away, I wasn’t going to hurt it. Please answer me. I feel so alone.

“Please answer me, who are you?” I began to sob. I didn’t like the way I was feeling. I didn’t like this black void I seemed to be caught in. I kept staring at the wolf when it’s eyes finally met mine.

“Please, I feel so alone, talk to me do something!” I cried harder, begging this wolf for something.

“Avery?” The voice echoed through the darkness.

“Avery can you hear me?” It was the wolf, they were answering me. I nodded my head.

“It’s me, Clarice.” I don’t understand how were we existing in the same place at the same time?

“Clarice where are we, why is it so dark?” She started to get closer to me.

“I’m not sure Avery, I just know we have to keep holding on.” She was almost within reach.

“Clarice, I’m scared, where’s Xavier? Isaac? Why are we here alone?!” She looked deep into my eyes, I could tell she didn’t understand either. The silence around us almost deafening. When suddenly I heard a faint cry, it almost sounded like a pup.

“Did you hear that?” I nodded my head. I heard it again. I started running in the direction I heard the crying coming from, the closer we got the further away it sounded.

“PLEASE MAKE IT STOP” I fell to my knees. I couldn’t keep doing this. I felt like I was going insane.

“Avery there it is again, I feel like we can almost reach it.” I pulled myself back up and kept walking. The darkness was almost blinding. I couldn’t see anything. I kept walking, the crying became louder.

“There to your left Avery!” I looked over to see a beautiful pup, only a couple of weeks old laying on the ground, swaddled. Was this my pup? I wasn’t far enough along to have my pup yet. The pup looked up at me and cooed. There was something familiar about it. I picked the pup up and held it close. They kept looking at me with their big beautiful blue eyes. They oddly resembled Xaviers. I unwrapped the pup. It was a boy. Before I realized what was happening time began to go by, the pup grew into a toddler. With bleach blonde hair and piercing pale blue eyes. He began to walk and talk. We still kept wandering around the dark trying to get out. How was time going by so quickly.

“Mom, it’s me. Cillian.” I looked over to see that the pup has now grown into a teenage boy.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know who you are.” He looked at me with sad eyes.

“You don’t know who I am yet, but I am the baby in your belly right now.” I looked down to see a very round pregnant belly. How was he in my belly but standing right here?

“How?” He came over and wrapped me up in a hug.

“It will all make sense in time. Right now, you need to go. You need to wake up.” I looked at him.

“Wake up Avery.” His voice was getting louder.

“AVERY PLEASE WAKE UP.” Why was he yelling at me. He hit me in my chest.

“AVERY I AM BEGGING YOU PLEASE COME BACK TO ME YOU NEED TO WAKE UP.” He hit me in my chest one last time and it made me gasp for air.

I opened my eyes, blinded by a really bright light.

“Avery?” I blinked a few times so my eyes could adjust, it was Xavier.

“What happened?” He kissed me on my forehead.

“I thought I had lost you princess. I love you.” He looked deep into my eyes. The last thing I remember was going back to have a sample of dna removed from the pup and then I woke up to the black abyss. What had happened.

“Cillian, that’s his name. That’s our pups name.” He looked at me with an eyebrow raised.

“What do you mean?” I was about to sound like a lunatic.

“I um, I met him. I’m not sure how but I woke up to a black abyss. Me and Clarice wandered around for days, years even looking for a way out. I found a pup, he looks just like you. I watched him grow before my eyes. He called me mom and told me his name was Cillian.” He wrapped me up in his arms and began to cry. Did I die?

“You’re okay now, you’re here now. I won’t ever leave your side again.” He didn’t let me go until the doctor came back.

“Im not sure what just happened or what’s going on, but I would like to keep Avery here for a couple more days for observation.” Xavier nodded his head. She walked over to me and ran some labs.

“The results from today’s test should be here within a week if not sooner. I will let know as soon as we get them.” She walked out of the room. I was almost certain now that the pup was his but having it confirmed wouldn’t hurt.

“What all did he say to you?” He asked grabbing my hand.

“He told me his name, I told him I didn’t know who he was, because I didn’t he looked familiar but I didn’t know, he told me I didn’t yet but he was the baby in my belly. Then he started hitting my chest and telling me to wake up.” I still hadn’t wrapped my head around what had just happened. I felt like I was still in a daze. Was this another dream or was I finally back in reality?

*Xaveirs point of view*

It’s been 3 days since Avery woke back up and we were finally released from the hospital. She’s on strict bed rest now and has a nurse coming over to check on her three time a day. I’m not really sure what happened when she had died but she swears that she met her pup, and she says he’s mine.

“Xavier, it’s time to go cut the ribbon for the groundbreaking at the hotel site.” I had to leave for a few hours today, against my will but I was leaving Avery in the care of Danielle, I knew she’d tell me immediately if anything went wrong.

“Okay, let me go say goodbye and then I’ll meet you and Axel at the car.” My dad nodded his head and walked away. I looked at the pile of papers on my desk. I had pushed off work for almost an entire week to be there and take care of Avery. Axel stepped in where he could but there was only so much he could do before I had to take back over. Even though I was back he was still acting as Alpha right now just in case anything happened.

I walked to my bedroom and opened the door. Avery was sitting up in bed eating some soup and watching some crime documentary, I would never understand why she loved this stuff so much.

“Hey princess, I have to leave for a couple of hours today. I’m leaving you in the hands of Danielle. You know she will be just as strict as me so no funny business.” I walked over and put my hand on her belly.

“Xavier! I think I just felt the pup kick!” She smiled up at me, though her pregnancy was progressing much faster than the normal pregnancy it was still too early for me to feel the pup myself. The last few times I’ve touched her belly she’s felt some sort of movement from the pup or maybe it was just gas bubbles but she swears it’s the pup, which would make sense. Pups have a really strong bond with their parents even the dads and they always kick or move around when they get close. So if this pup is mine like we’re hoping it would make sense.

“Okay I have to go now princess, I love you.” I kissed her on the lips and headed towards the door.

“I love you too Alpha, please be safe.” Hearing her call me Alpha stopped me in my tracks, I looked back at her. She was grinning from ear to ear. I didn’t want to leave now, but the faster I left the faster I could get back to please her until she couldn’t take anymore. I smiled back at her and left.

*Averys point of view*

“Danielle, can you help me shower?” I hated asking anyone to help me because I wasn’t useless but I did have to be careful since we didn’t know much about my pregnancy right now. I still hadn’t heard back from my mom which was strange.

“Of course, brothers orders I don’t let you do anything alone.” She walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on and came back to help me off the bed.

“I hate to ask but I do need to shave and stuff, you don’t have to do it just warning you this shower might be longer than normal.” I pulled my shirt over my head and stepped into the shower sitting down on the chair. She grabbed the shower head and started spraying me down. Me and Danielle had grown close over the last few days, she kept me company a lot so Xavier could get some of his work done.

“I can help you do whatever you need that’s what I’m here for.” She put some soap into her hand and began washing my hair. Xavier was great at helping me shower but never as thorough as her. She took her time making sure to massage all the way to the scalp.

“I know I’ve told you a dozen times now but I really do appreciate you and all your help.” She rinsed my hair out and began to lather it with conditioner.

“Of course, it isn’t your fault all this is happening, it’s my brothers. He had to get you pregnant.” I just giggled, we still didn’t know if it was his but with the way the pup responded when he touched me, I was almost certain. Just then my phone rang.

“I’ll go get it.” Danielle ran out of the bathroom and grabbed my phone.

“It’s the hospital, do you think your results are in?” I shrugged my shoulders not wanting to get my hopes up. She answered the phone and put it on speaker.

“Hello?” Silence filled the air as we both anticipated what would come next.

“Hi yes this is one of the nurses over at the pack hospital, I’m calling in regards to the paternity test you had done a few days ago. It does look like Alpha Xavier is the father. Would like to know the gender as well?” I looked over at Danielle who was excitingly nodding her head yes.

“Yes I would thank you.” Silence filled the room again. I hadn’t told anyone but Xavier about what happened when I died. Danielle has been constantly telling me she thinks it’s a boy though.

“According to the results, it’s boy but we won’t confirm it until you come in next week. Have a good rest of the day and get lots of rest.” She hung up the phone just in time for Danielle to scream with joy.

“I TOLD YOU IT WAS A BOY!” I knew she was excited but she hadn’t been telling me anything I didn’t already know. I smiled at her and she started to rinse my hair out.

“I have to do something for Xavier tonight to celebrate.” She pulled my loofah down and put some soap on it, I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I had to tell him in a special way.

“Do you think we could set up a scavenger hunt around the house and make him search for clues?” I liked that idea, I raised my arms up so she could get my armpits and then slowly stood up so I could wash my lady bits.

“What kind of clues do you think we should leave?” I grabbed the shaving cream from the shelf and put some on my legs.

“Maybe stuff to lead him outside to a small picnic.” She handed me the razor. I was on bedrest but surely I could go outside for a little bit just to have dinner, not like I would be doing any of the preparation work anyways.

“As long as you promise you guys won’t stay out there long.” I just laughed at her as she rinsed my legs off.

“Do you really think he’d let me stay out there that long anyways?” She didn’t say anything because she knew I was right. Once I was done shaving she brought me a towel and I wrapped myself in it.

“Can you grab my black silk nightgown out of the closet?” She walked over and opened the door returning with the gown in hand within seconds.

I slipped it on over my head and out deodorant on and a few spritz of Xaviers favorite perfume.

“Okay let’s get you back in bed and start working on tonight’s preparations.” We walked back to the bed and I sat down. We started tossing back and forth ideas about what we wanted to do, what clues would sound the best, where to leave them, and what to make him for dinner. I felt like we had talked for hours before we finally came to an agreement. Danielle called a couple of the omegas up to the room and told them the plan and they instantly got to work. It started to get darker out and I knew Xavier would be home soon. I couldn’t wait to see him. Danielle helped me down the stairs and to the back of the yard where there was a quilt in the ground surrounded by candles and a few rose petals thrown about. Now all I had to do was wait for him to find me. I was so excited to officially tell him the news. I could already see the joy in his face, finding out the pup was really his and that it was a bit would just be the cherry on top. I smiled looking up at the stars, life could not be any more perfect right now.
