It Wasn’t Supposed To Be Like This

Chapter 7

*AVERYS POINT OF VIEW*

Images from this morning kept flooding my brain, I was distracted all day at school.

“Avery are you gonna tell me why you’re so smiley today?” Me and Layla are sitting in math class and I’m trying so hard to pay attention.

“I uh, yeah but I don’t want to talk about it here, there’s so much I have to fill you in on” I can’t help but just grin at her.

“Once we’re done here do you want to skip out on the rest of the day?” She nods her head. I needed to text Xavier and let him know I wouldn’t be here just in case he shows up.

M-Me and Layla are heading back to my house for the rest of the day-

He instantly replies, Dylan was never this fast even when we were together, that makes me smile.

X- okay be safe please, I will probably come back by later today to talk with you more about what we’re going to do moving forward-

I haven’t thought much about my decisions, I don’t know if I want to move away, I don’t know if I want to be mated to someone forever, what if they do what Dylan did? How can I have faith in a total stranger?

~but Clarice what if I can’t? What if I’m not good enough to be a Luna? Or good enough to please him for the rest of his life, he said that I would feel him sleep with someone else and I don’t know if I could take that pain, Clarice I don’t think I’m strong enough for this, he’s got the wrong girl~

~Clarice I don’t think I can, I’m sorry but I can’t do this~

With that I pushed her to the back of my mind, as far as I could to the point I almost couldn’t feel her anymore, what if I can severe my wolf bond with her? Can I leave that part of my life behind?

“Avery come on the pizzas going to get cold!” I look across the table to see Layla munching on her 3rd piece of pizza, I haven’t even touched mine.

“I’m sorry I’ve been in another world, I just have a lot to think about and a lot I really need to fill you in on, just promise me you won’t freak out?” She nods her head as I continue to talk and fill her in on my moms pack, Xavier, and everything in between. When I finish I just look at her, her eyes wide in shock.

“I told you it was a lot.” She’s still just staring at me I’m trying to read her face to know what she’s thinking when suddenly she blurts out,

“YOU HAVE A WOLF YOU CAN TRANSFORM INTO A WOLF!? CAN I SEE!?” my mom didn’t really tell me if I needed to keep anything a secret but Layla is my best friend and I have to talk to someone, moms too busy with work and Felix for me to talk to her, and dad well he’s human.

“I uh, I guess you can mom didn’t tell me to keep anything a secret but Layla promise me you won’t tell anyone else unless you know they already know.” She nods her head.

“Okay, let’s get in the car and drive.” We drive to the little area me and my mom went my first time.

M-Clarice I know I’ve pushed you away but are you up for a run?-

C-Avery you could do everything in your power to push me away but I would never leave you, I’m part of you, your identity.-

I don’t know what I did to deserve such an understanding wolf but I am thankful for her.

“Okay I have to step behind his tree for a second so I can undress and shift, please don’t be afraid Clarice won’t hurt you.” She nods her head and I step behind the tree.

Okay Clarice let’s do this, I feel her begin to push herself forward and within 10 minutes I’m fully transformed. Clarice walks out and Layla is just staring in awe.

“You are absolutely gorgeous” she says as she puts a hand on Clarices fur.When I hear a twig snap and our ears perk up.

-Clarice something doesn’t feel right we need to go.-

-I agree, I think we should go no one even knows we’re here-

I hear a low growl and look around not seeing anyone or anything, Layla is oblivious, I’m assuming whatever me and Clarice heard is to far for normal human hearing. I lower myself to the ground and motion for Layla to get on, she does and we start running, I start to hear more twigs snapping and more growling coming from multiple directions there’s more than one. I have to run faster.

Clarice give it your all they’re getting close, go.

*UNKNOWN POINT OF VIEW*

She was standing there, right there where I needed her, the rightful heir to the Eclipse Pack, Avery Lee, she was even more beautiful than I had imagined, I let out a low growl thinking of all the things I could do to her body. I watched as she transformed into her wolf, Max almost couldn’t stop himself from transforming to go and mate with her and then we heard her friend.

“You are absolutely gorgeous” she said as she pet her friends wolf. Seeing someone else pet her made me growl again. Nobody touches what’s mine. We start to move forward and we hear the twigs snapping beneath us, I need to let everyone know I have her here.

-she’s right here get here now, we’re about 20 minutes outside the territory-

-on our way Alpha Zeke-

Within minutes the rest of my pack was there and we started narrowing in on her, but it was too late she knew we were there now and she took off back towards the city. My father is going to be so mad when he knows she got away. We can’t chase her any further because then we’ll be in Alpha Xaviers territory that nasty Namur, we broke our peace treaty with them a year ago and he vowed if we ever stepped foot in his territory he would kill us all. It’s almost worth it though for that sweet innocent girl, innocent in more ways than I can imagine thinking of her precious little flower that will be all mine to take away makes me hungry with lust. I will stay out for now we have to wait until just the right time. Until we see you again little Luna, which will be very soon.

*XAVIERS POINT OF VIEW*

“Alpha we just got a call that some wolves were spotted about 30 minutes outside our territory, there was one there with a human girl and they ran into our territory.” I look up to see Levi and my dad standing there.

“Thank you Levi you’re dismissed for now, dad we need to talk” Levi nods his head and walks out.

“I believe I know the wolf with the human girl, I haven’t told you yet because I know you’ll force her to come back and she’s not ready for that yet, I also believe the rogues we’ve been dealing with are after her as well, and I know with me thinking they’re after her I should have brought her here for more protection she’s just not ready for it yet.” I look over at my dad who’s still standing by the door.

“What do you mean son? You know who they’re after and you know that wolf?” I’m not ready to have this conversation yet, I know how he’s going to react and I know he’s going to make her come here.

“I haven’t seen her wolf yet, but she’s the only wolf I know who’s involved with humans because she was suppressed from her wolf nature until she turned 18, but he’s my mate and her names Avery, that’s why I’ve been going to school to protect her.” My dads face turns 4 shades of red as anger flushes over him.

“ARE YOU SERIOUS, AND YOU DIDN’T THINK TO TELL ME, BRING HER HERE IMMEDIATELY” I shake my head.

“It’s not that simple dad, she’s not ready for this yet. She only just now turned 18, she’s lived her whole life thinking she was a human only to be bombarded by her wolf the night of her 18th birthday.” He’s shaking his head but calmer now.

“You need to go and talk to her and get her back here as soon as you can, what pack does her family originate from?” I don’t think he’ll know the pack because it’s far away from our territory.

“The Eclipse Pack.” I say flatly I’m no longer interested in this conversation I just need to go find Avery. His eyes grew wide.

“What did you say her name was? Full name?” I’d not know why this is important he’s just wasting my time when I need to go find her.

“Avery Lee” his eyes grew even wider.

“Son, she’s the rightful heir of the Eclipse Pack, her grandfather was the Alpha of the pack, since she’s the first born grandchild she would inherit the pack.” I don’t understand though the pack was dismantled and it no longer exists, why does it seem like there’s more than he’s telling me.

“Okay, but the pack no longer exists? How would she inherit anything, and I thought the pack went to the first born male, she has a brother granted far too young but still.” I’m getting more annoyed by the minute I just want to go be with her.

“With their pack that’s not how it works, the first born grandchild inherits powers, it skips generations. If you and her were to have pups it’s more than likely your pup would inherit them as well, that’s why her moms tried to keep everything hidden for so long, she’s in danger she’s rare and she’s powerful and will bring great strength to whatever pack she becomes Luna of, have you guys marked each other yet?” I shake my head

“You need to and fast even if she is your fated mate if someone gets ahold of her and finishes what you couldn’t it’s not going to be good.” I just nodded my head.

“If that is all I need to go, she doesn’t know about any of this, when will her powers reveal themselves?”I stand up making my way towards the door.

“The moment she’s officially mated and marked.” I nodded my head and walked out the door.

“Levi please drive me to Avery’s house.” He nods his head and we head out the door. We pull into Avery’s neighborhood, pulling up to her house I notice her vehicle is gone.

M-Avery where are you? It’s urgent we need to talk.-

A-I was just about to text you, something happened today, I’m almost home where are you?-

M-I’m at your house I figured you’d be here since you told me you and Layla would be here the rest of the day.-

A-that was the plan but I told Layla everything and she wanted to see my wolf-

M-okay I’ll see you when you get here, I know Layla knows everything but this needs to be a private conversation-

A-okay be there in a minute.-

I patiently waited in my car until she arrived, once she was there I told Levi he could leave I figured I would be here a while. She hugged Layla goodbye and then we both made our way into the house.

“Do you know if your moms home?” She shook her head

“She has to work night shift tonight, why?” I felt like this wasn’t a conversation to be had without her mom present, she’s already hidden enough secrets from her and now I’m about to tell her more.

“Okay, honestly this wasn’t a conversation I wanted to have without your mom present because these are things she needs to tell you but I can’t wait for her to get home, you’re in danger.” Her face dropped I think she already knew.

“When me and Layla were in the woods earlier I heard growling and then twigs snap, I put Layla on my back and ran as fast as I could back to your territory.” Levi was right there were other wolves there trying to get my mate. It made me furious to know she was that close to danger. We walk up to her room and I motion for her to sit, what I’m about to tell her is a lot to unpack.

“I need you to sit there and listen please, I have a lot to say and it’s going to take a minute to process, so you know how your moms pack was destroyed and everyone went their separate ways,” she nods her head, “okay well you are the rightful heir of the Eclipse pack and I know what you’re thinking how can I be an heir to a pack that no longer exist which you aren’t wrong, it’s more so what you possess now, since you are the first born you possess powers, powers that won’t fully emerge until after you officially mate and are marked.” She’s just staring at me now trying to fully understand what I’m saying.

“There’s more, you are my destined mate but if another wolf gets ahold of you before we finish the process, not only would I feel the pain but you would become part of that pack, and the alpha of that pack would feel the affects of your powers. It’s very important that your powers don’t fall into the wrong hands.” I wait for her to say something, anything but she doesn’t she just sits there quietly.

*AVERYS POINT OF VIEW*

Im sitting there trying to take in all of the information Xavier just gave me, I’m in danger and we need to mate and mark each other fast and move away so he can protect me, it’s too much. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, this wasn’t the life I had imagined. Im so mad at my mom for not telling me anything sooner, I wasn’t prepared. I really like Xavier but I can’t just up and move away, we’ve only known each other for like a week, I.. this is too much. I just look at him, he’s looking at me trying to study my face and what I’m feeling but honestly I just feel empty.

“Avery?” He says reaching for my hand. I want to pull away, but I can’t I just look at him.

“Xavier I don’t know what to do, I’m not ready for this, to be a Luna to be someone’s mate.” He looks at me knowing this has nothing to do with him but everything to do with myself.

“Avery don’t doubt yourself you were born for this and I promise I won’t let anything happen to you, you are my life now and I will do anything in my power to protect you.” I believe him but I still can’t give into him yet.

“I just need more time, I need to think about all of this I’m sorry you were mated with a clueless wolf. I want to be a good mate and give you everything you want but I don’t know if I’m good enough.” He nods his head in understanding, does he feel this way sometimes too? Without another word he scoops me up and carries me to my bed. We just lay there until I drift off to sleep, his arms making me feel safe, secure and warm. I want to lay here forever but eventually I have to make a decision I’m going to have to choose him unless I want my life to be in constant danger. Maybe my family can just move away to Canada where nobody knows who we are. I awake the next morning to an empty bed, this makes me sad I want to just wake up with him next to him. I get up and around and head to take a shower. The doors closed that’s odd I always leave it open, I walk in and everything goes black. I wake up to the sound of people moving around me but I still can’t see anything.

“Alpha she’s waking up.” I hear a familiar voice say, surely it’s not who I think it is.

“Dylan go remove her mask I want her to get a good look at who I am and I want her to watch everything I’m about to do to her.”

“Yes alpha”I feel a blindfold being removed from my eyes, I have to squint once it’s removed the lights are extremely bright and I have no idea how long it’s been since I’ve seen the light of day. I look to my left once my eyes are adjusted and I see Dylan standing there. Tears start to fall. Why would he do this? Who was he working with or for? I don’t understand. Is this why he was never around anymore, why he didn’t come to my party and why he broke up with me. Was he just spying and gathering intel?

“I don’t.. I don’t understand, why are you here Dylan?” He just laughs, it makes my stomach churn.

“Oh sweet naive Avery, I’ve been waiting for this day for months now, the look of confusion on your face is absolutely hilarious.” I don’t know what to do, Xavier never marked me how will he find me? I need to fight and protect myself as long as I can. I have to find a way to let him know where I am and tha.. where am I? I don’t even recognize this place.

Clarice what do I do?

I got no response, I’m in trouble I’m in so much trouble, Xavier please find me please.
