Chapter 34 The merciless desert sun neared its slide and descent behind the mountain peaks west of the city. Much of the Las Vegas Strip was in the shadows of the colossal resort casino hotels. Arriving early at the southern tip of the four-mile stretch, the dour man with spiked hair instructed their driver to skip the freeways and crawl up Las Vegas Boulevard in the congested traffic.
