The Betrayal
There I was, laying down on a bed of fallen leaves. Feeling the warm sun on my face and just enjoying my time basking in the nice weather outside. For the first time in weeks, I can enjoy the crisp scent of the newly changed leaves and wind. ‘We should go on a run!’ Shadow proclaimed. ‘Enjoy this at all costs!’ ‘I know, but let’s stay here for a moment longer. I haven’t enjoyed this since we moved to the new house and pack.’ I had to sigh in the wonderful weather. Normally it has been raining since we moved here. At least this pack was bigger and my mother got offered a job here as the pack's healer and doctor. I’m only 20 and I received my wolf at 16 and was able to shift into a version of my wolf that is unheard of. I can transform into a wolf and then transform into a Lycan at will. I can also bend and become invisible at will too. Which is something that is unheard of. I never told my mother this or I would be another one of her studies. ‘No one will notice us. Besides, it’s a new pack! What could go wrong?’ Shadow whimpered. I had to sigh. She was right. It is a completely new pack. They had a lot more ground than my other pack and I did go for a run in human form to scout the grounds and boundaries to make sure we were fine. Besides, if I do run into trouble, I can always mask my scent and become invisible. The only one who would ever be able to catch me is my mate, and that is even far-fetched, because I won’t get my mate anytime soon. Besides, if I haven’t found him when I was 18, I might not even have one. ‘Don’t think like that! We do. I know we do! I can feel him! Please let’s go for a run!’ Shadow whimpered. ‘You’re right. I’m sorry Shadow. We really should go for a run.’ I sighed and just went into the house. “Kyla, dear. Are you enjoying your time?” My mother called out from the kitchen as I opened the door. That's when it hit me. The mouth-watering scent of lavender and cinnamon. I inhaled so deeply that I felt like my nose was falling off. I was so entranced in the scent at the slider door I forgot what my mother had asked. “Kyla?” My mother peaked around the corner and caught me sniffing the air. “Is something wrong?” She looked concerned. “No, nothing is wrong. Sorry, I was just enjoying my time. What did you ask?” I said sheepishly. Then that is where I heard the loud chuckle from the kitchen. A low rumble filled the air and my stomach started turning and swishing. “I ask you if you enjoyed your time outside? We also have a guest from the packhouse.” Mother sighed. ‘The packhouse!? Who could it be? Beta Aaron? Beta Clark?’ I stammered asking Shadow who didn't answer because she too was enjoying the scent in the room. As the tall figure came to stand behind my mother, he held his hand out. “Sorry I did not mean to barge in. I love introducing myself unannounced to all my pack members. My father taught me that I should see how each individual -” he stopped his sentence and locked his deep brown eyes into mine. He was a God. Sleek dark brown hair, brown eyes, very athletic, muscles that can tear a mere human to shreds. ‘MATE!’ Shadow screamed and squealed with excitement. “Oh!” I gasped out loud, not knowing anyone could hear me. He stood there holding his hand out. Eyes widened in surprise. And both of us had our jaws dropped. “Alpha Mark?” My mother stammered. She was looking at us with bewilderment. She also had a tone of worry in her voice. ‘Did you do something wrong!?’ My mother mind-linked me. She had panic all over her. I could not say or do anything. I was entranced. ‘Take his hand stupid!’ Shadow growled at me. ‘TAKE IT!’ I listened and I still had my mouth dropped to the floor. As I shook his hand, the shock and tingles exploded. Both of us had shivered from the touch. ‘MATE!’ Shadow purred at the thrill of his touch. “I’m sorry. Forgive my manners.” I stammered. “This whole place is wonderful! Thank you for accepting us in your pack.” I bowed my head as I shook this God’s hand. “Uh, no. Thank you. For coming.” He stammered back. “Apologies. I had no idea your daughter was so beautiful.” He tried to recover. “Thank you.” My mother and I said at the same time. I blushed. ‘He called us beautiful!’ Shadow sighed in relief. We forgot our hands were locked in each other’s. Still shaking my hand. “I never met a wolf with violet eyes before.” He murmured. “They are mystical.” “Thank you.” I murmured back. Blushing like a school girl. “Kyla was part of the scouts back in our old pack.” My mother exhaled in relief. “She would be a great asset to your pack scouts.” “I’m sure she would be a great asset to our pack” he smiled devilishly. ‘HE ACCEPTS US!’ I can feel her bouncing up and down in excitement. “I believe I can do what I can to help our pack be as strong, welcoming, and swift.” I smiled and never lost focus. “I will believe that when I see it,” he said in a teasing tone. “I bet I am faster than you", I mocked his tone back. “KAYLA!” My mother gasped. I completely forgot she was in the room and Alpha Mark did to because I saw him flinch for a moment. No one could tell but his eyes gave it away. He dropped the focus on me and whipped around to my mother. “It’s settled then. Tonight we will gather scouts and warriors and there shall be a race on who is the fastest,” Alpha Mark exclaimed happily. "I hope to see you at the entrance of the waking trees." "The waking trees?" My mother's hand flew to her mouth in shock, "Isn't that trail dangerous Alpha Mark?" "Yes, but we also hold our training on that trail. The more rugged the terrain the better equipped our warriors and scouts are." Alpha Mark raised an eyebrow at my mother for questioning her, "If my wolves cannot handle it, then they are not fit for their role that they signed up for." "I can handle it," I pronounced a little to proudly. We moved here a few months ago. I made myself familiar with all the trails, roads, side streets, and the woods. Years of training for scouting had this drilled into me to know my surroundings and to be hidden incase something where to happen. It also helped to know the boarder of this pack incase there was a lapse in patrol, which not going to lie, there was. By the south west boarder, no one really patrols over there because of the terrain is so rugged. This made for a perfect running spot and definitely makes for a good spot to hide if it isn't secured. I don't dare tell this to Alpha Mark, there is always a reason behind it. At least I know this is how they train for endurance. "See you at dawn, Kayla." Alpha Mark looked at me and then turned to my mother, "Dr. Starr, I need you to assess our soon to be Luna Melissa." He spat the last of the sentence out like it was venom on his toung. 'Oh not, he had a chosen mate before meeting us!' Shadow was hurt. I was hurt. This news sent daggers through my heart. "I will be at the pack house in 30 minutes. I need to gather my things." My mother bowed her head and left to go get some medical supplies and her doctor bag. 'Our fated mate, has a chosen mate. He might reject us.' I was swallowing hard, that I can feel the lump in my throat suffocating me. 'Let's go for that run. We need to assess the waking tree path anyway if we are to win that contest.' I had to force myself to think of something else. My mate, my Alpha, has another. I should have expected that. I should have known. He was the Alpha. "Now that is out of the way," Alpha Mark said a little to harshly, "You." He locked eyes on me. They look amber now, like he is about to cry. I just want to hold him and let him know that I understood. "I understand Alpha. I will be there. I will not let you down," I opened the back door and walked out. I couldn't handle it. I did not want to hear the rejection. I did not want him to reject me until I can prove that I will be a better choice. 'I can't believe you walked out of there like that! He is going to think we hate him!' Shadow whimpered. She to was hurt by his words. I couldn't talk back. I started to run. I didn't want to deal with the pain that came from rejection. Once I was far enough away, I shifted and turned invisible. I let Shadow take over and she kept the invisibility and scent cover going. Not a trace to been seen or smelt. We ran straight to the waking trees. We ended up going onto the path and then it hit us. A fowl smell, almost like rotting flesh. 'Kayla, we smelt this before,' Shadow stopped in her tracks. Took a sniff, and then steadily followed the scent. 'Death. The Smell of a decaying wolf is nearby. Aren't we still within our borders?' I asked Shadow. 'Yes, but that might not stop a wolf from an attack. We know this area is unpatrolled.' Shadow said. Then another scent hit us, another wolf, no, two wolves. They haven't showered in a few days. 'Do you think these are rogues in the border?' It was hard to say. They could be part of the pack. If they were, then why haven't they taken a shower? We were close to the end of the trail and near our borders. Still invisible, still can't smell us. Shadow has a great sense of stealth and our steps are undectectable. As we approached closer to them, we can tell they set up camp. There was at least 3 tents, one has a dead body right at the base of the first tent, then we see the other two. They were still in wolf form. Rouges. They breached the boarder and have been camping here for a few weeks. 'This is deffinetly not what I had in mind' I told Shadow. Her fur was on end. Then another wolf came from behind the tents. This wolf was very well maintained. She transformed into her human self. Tall, slender, and blond. The other two did the same and they put their clothes on. "Mel, this is the perfect spot!" said a female rouge. "Yes, but it was unfortunate we had to take out a young pup. At least now we can properly hide the body." The male rouge grunted. "You killed this pup!?" shock was sent to the she-wolf Mel. "Well, yea. He was going to alert the others." grunted the male. "You have no right to kill anyone! If my soon-to-be husband finds out that one of his parole pups is missing he will surely send out a search and rescue," growled Melissa. 'This b***h is working with the rouges.' growled Shadow. She sent a low rumble through her throat, luckily the three wolves fighting on what to do with the body did not hear it. 'We need to send an alarm. Shadow, this is not good.' I hissed. No one will believe newcomers that their soon-to-be Luna was working with these guys. Maybe they will think that the rouges acted alone. 'We can't. The only one we can mind-link right now is your mother. Alpha Mark, our mate, hasn't accepted us into his pack formally yet. If I even sounded an alarm, they would hear where we are and we don't know the extent of how they can actually fight.' Shadow hissed back. I know we can take them. I know we can out run them. I know, because we have done this time and time again on our borders. I was able to get a good look at the wolf on the ground, he transformed into his human self. All dead wolves end up transforming into their human selves. He was mangled, and only looked about 18. This sight infuriated me. I mind-linked my mom. 'Mom! We have an issue! There are rouges at the southeast boarder! There is a young wolf, possibly dead. The rouges have made camp here and I see the soon-to-be Luna here as well. Possibly in danger.' I send the urgent message to my mother. Shadow was pleased on how I worded it. 'At least you made it seem like she was in danger, way to leave out that she could possibly be working with the rouges.' Honestly, we have seen this all to much. Newcomers in our pack would be punished for making wild accusations with no proof. I really need to be careful. All the more reason now to protect my fated mate. My blood is boiling. Then a sweet scent of Lavender and cinnamon comes rushing to us. Calming us. Then the other scents of the pack following suit. They barged through the tree lines, swarming the rouges and Melissa. She acted like she was going to be killed and was on the ground whimpering. "Thank god you are hear!" She cried. The rouges eyes went wide and they became frightened. "NO!" the male shouted as one of the pack members lunged at the female's throat killing her instantly, then the other members grabbed the male's arms and legs with their mouth and brought the rouge to his knees. A low growl came from the big wolf infront of us. Coat as black as coal, eyes red with fury, fur standing up on their ends, and the scent to die for. You can feel the power emanating from him. He wants to rip the rouge's head right off. He transformed into his human form and did not loose the powerful stature as he stalked foward. "Tell me, how did you manage to kill our pup." He growled at the male being pinned down. "Why send pups untrained out on patrol," spat the male rouge. "He isn't part of the patrol, he was a young pup on a hike," Alpha Mark spat and then off came the rouges head. The pack members released the pinned down rouge and then shifted to human form to gather the young pup. "Thank you, my love. You saved me!" Melissa cried as she stammered her way over to Alpha Mark. He did not flinch. "Why were you here, alone? Why didn't you mind link me?" Alpha Mark sighed. "I had to hear it from a newcomer that you where in danger." "The newcomer?" Melissa's eyes widened in fear. She was looking around to see where we where. 'Shadow, we should get out of here. If he finds out that no one but him can see or hear us, we are in serious trouble!' the fear was rising inside of me. Alpha Mark's right side was facing us and he grabbed Melissa and hugged her. "Go home dear. Dr. Starr is waiting for you." He sighed. Melissa let go of him and still scanning the woods to find us, "Yes dear." She sighed, but still scanning. "Don't worry love, you will be going with the boy and a few of the wolves." He let her arm go as the other members ushered her along and into the woods. Alpha Mark and a few of the other wolves remained. They all shifted back into their human form, the wolves that remain where Beta Clark, and Beta Aaron. "There is no sign of the newcomer Alpha." Beta Clark, a she-wolf, reported to him. "No scent, no traces." reported Beta Aaron, he was handsome to. "Odd." Alpha Mark glared in our direction. "She may have heard it from a distance?" "That would be odd, but she lives on the south west side. I haven't heard of a wolf with super sonic hearing. She would be 10 miles away from this place." Beta Clark explained. Alpha Mark was glaring in my direction still, holding his gaze onto me and then turned to his two betas, "Then maybe she is gifted." "That is a possiblity. I have heard of wolves being gifted to see the dead," Beta Aaron said, "But those that have that particular gift are already claimed by the royal court of Dawn Break. We rarely get hearing of a gifted until it is too late." I can feel Alpha Mark's grin. "Maybe this newcomer escaped Dawn Break and their old pack. Maybe this newcomer slipped through their fingers." You can hear the sly voice come from him. "But how will we know which newcomer it is? We have 10 of them." Beta Clark clenched her fists. "We will hold a tournament within the pack. Only the newcomers. Test their capabilities of sorts." Alpha Mark had a finger to the tip of his mouth, deep in thought. "How about something like the Luna's festivities?" Beta Aaron chimed in. "A non-official one. Something that we do for the new initiates we do as a training excersise." "That is a good idea. I can train them in scouting and combat." Beta Clark had her fist on her chest. "I can train them in other areas like tracking and endurance," Beta Aaron said in a copy of Beta Clark. "Now we settle on how we will make the arena." Alpha Mark glanced in my direction and winked. His beta's didn't catch it because their heads where bowed. "As we are deciding that, send out some scouts and trackers to follow where these rouges came from." "Yes Alpha!" Beta Clark and Aaron bowed their head. Then a swarm of wolves came and both betas shifted into wolf form and took off. Leaving the Alpha unprotected. 'I don't like that our mate is unprotected. Good thing we are here.' Shadow growled. "I see you, and smell you. What are you doing here, my love." Alpha Mark said sharply. I know he is talking to us. Shadow did not move, not even breathe. "Come out please." It was an Alpha command. Shadow moved against her will. 's**t, we are in trouble.' Shadow was panicking, I was panicking. "I am not mad. I wish I knew you were out here. I would have protected you." Alpha Mark bent down and caressed Shadow's fur. She was purring under the touch of our mate. "I had no idea that you where the one out here until I smelt the scent of you. I was in a panic." Shadow shifted and revealed me. I was under the touch of our mate, my Alpha. "I am sorry for making you worry Alpha. I came across the Luna with the rouges." I stammered. If he was going to reject me, I don't want to enjoy his touch on my skin. My head is low. My voice was in my throat. Shadow was enraged that the words came out and it hurt both of us on what I said. Alpha Mark placed his hand on my shoulder. He just left it there and I can feel that my words hurt him. I felt his emotion, the pain. "Yes, but with you being my fated mate, this changes everything. Here in my pack, Blood Moon, we go based on fated mates more than chosen mates." He sighed, "please tell me, what did you see?" I kept what I have seen and heard to myself, "All I know is that I saw rouges, and then Luna Melissa, then the boy. That is when I mind-linked my mother, that is when you came." My head was bowed. "She is not a Luna, not yet." Alpha Mark declared. 'There is still hope for us!' Shadow proclaimed in excitement, 'He is giving us a chance.' A small smile appeared on my face as I looked into Alpha Mark's eyes, that's when I noticed, we where both bare naked, in the woods. His eyes where a smooth chocolate amber color and filled with a burning desire. Taking me in. "You are so beautiful." As he took an inhale. The emotion was so overwhelimg, his touch when he moved his hand to my back, every once was electrifying, ever touch was burning. He moved his other hand to my chin, making me stare into his eyes then kissed me. Every fiber of my being was on fire with lust. The most thrilling of all, and that is when he pinned me down, and entered me. I was so wet with excitement, and he was hard. He was not gentle and it hurt, but it felt good. This was animalistic, this was raw emotions. Everything about him felt so right. I was in bliss. Every thrust was fast and hard. Every movement he did was pleasurable. We were finished within minutes. Our eyes locked onto each other. He was still inside of me, he gave me a look of satisfaction and then a realization occured. This was not supposed to happen. As I realized what happened as well, we weren't safe. My eyes widened in shock. "Fuck." Alpha Mark shouted, "f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, fuck." He jumped up and was passing back and forth. He realized what we did and this would not go over well. "This was not supposed to happen like this. I am so sorry!" He held out his hand for me to grab. "I have to go back to the pack house. I need to give you the formal pack initiation. Meet me at the packhouse in three hours." He landed a kiss on my lips and took off. Leaving me alone, in the woods. 'We are in heat,' Shadow exclaimed and I looked down, and I was bleeding. Oh, no. Oh goddess, what am I going to do now? 'We take priority now.' I let Shadow shift and take us home while I figure out what this all means.
