The hidden library was alive with soft golden light. Floating books hovered lazily, and the crystals the group carried pulsed faintly, responding to the magic around them. Aria stared at the pages in front of her, trying to memorize the runes that seemed to shimmer and shift as if alive.
“Aria, you look like you’re trying to eat the book,” Zara whispered, peering over her shoulder. “Careful, or it’ll bite back.”
Aria gave a small smile. “I need to understand this. We can’t just wait for the creatures to attack us.”
Mina crossed her arms, watching quietly. “Or we could just avoid trouble. Seems easier.”
Leo’s eyes scanned the library, sharp and alert. “Avoiding trouble doesn’t work when the veil is breaking. You need to learn to use your abilities. Now.”
A soft glow appeared near Aria, and the small fox-like creature from the night before floated close. Its silver tails shimmered as it circled her, and she felt its thoughts brush against her mind. Focus. Feel the energy. Control it.
Aria lifted her crystal. Light gathered in her palm, pulsing with warmth. Slowly, she formed a protective sphere around her hand. It shimmered and wobbled like liquid gold before stabilizing. Zara gasped, mimicking the motion with her own crystal, and even Mina reluctantly joined, forming a small shimmering shield.
Leo watched silently, arms crossed, but there was the faintest hint of approval in his dark eyes. “Good. You’re all learning faster than I expected.”
The black cat leapt onto a floating shelf, its silver eyes glinting knowingly. Aria reached out to stroke it, feeling the familiar tingle of magic travel through her fingers. “We’re going to need every bit of this,” she said. “The wardens, the creatures… it’s all getting closer.”
Zara nodded, her usual sarcasm gone. “Yeah. I can feel it too. Like the air itself is… different.”
Mina exhaled sharply. “We’ll just have to be ready. And somehow, I don’t think this is going to be easy.”
Aria looked around at her friends, at the glowing crystals, at the magical creatures hovering nearby. For the first time, she felt a sense of purpose. Together, they might stand a chance. Alone, none of them would survive.
The library pulsed with light as if approving her thoughts, and Aria knew that this was only the beginning. The lessons of magic were just starting, and with each one, the veil grew thinner—and the world outside, more dangerous.
