A New Beginning
Even the most introverted of persons would have wanted to walk outside just to appreciate the weather. Maamle Mensah was a selective introvert, and by good fate, she was out enjoying the weather's calming effects. It was well worth it. She was exhausted after a long day of going from one block to the next, noting the places she would most likely visit for the next four years of her life. In spite of the tiredness she felt, there was a refreshing feeling of relief that came from the weather, and from knowing she was done with the heaviest task for the day, and could now look forward to the less stressful tasks that sat waiting to be crossed off her to-do list. ♡ ♡ At only 18 years old, Maamle had the weight of the world on her shoulders; she had a 10-year plan, diligently divided into short and long-term plans. In addition, there was also her yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily reviews which she rarely ever missed fulfilling. On the few unfortunate occasions when she could not cross a task or two off her to-do lists, she struggled to forgive herself. ♡ ♡ The walk back to her hostel was 10 times harder than the walk from her hostel because, unlike it's name, the Savannah Plains College was as uneven as an uneven span of land could be; it was literally an up-hill climb back to her hostel and her thighs were extremely unhappy about it.She watched the students who jollyly descended the hill with an amusing jealousy, and the guilty pleasure of knowing their thighs would suffer as she was suffering, when they are returning back to their hostels. It was striking how good-looking most of the guys who passed by her were. It is common to meet good-looking girls everywhere you go, but for the first time in her life, she was seeing more good-looking guys than she was used to seeing in one place. You can count on Maamle to stay focused on her academics and not get distracted, but with the observations she had been making lately, Savannah Plains College might just be that place that tests this focusing-ability of hers. ♡ ♡ At the entrance of her hostel "the Hexagon", is a provision shop that stocks some of the most sumptuous pastries, both sweet and spicy. In front of that provision shop was a kebab seller sent from hell to take money from students, regardless of whether or not they would have enough left to cover them through the rest of the semester. As smart as Maamle was in her classes, she still struggled with financial intelligence; the real financial intelligence that was not taught in any of her classes. The kind of financial intelligence that will make it impossible for a student whose parents could barely afford her transport fare to campus, to even consider splurging on delicious kebabs. "Sausage two, Kebab one", Maamle instructed the kebab seller who joyfully nodded in understanding, and begun to put her order on the hot grill. ♡ ♡ "you can sit" The Kebab seller gestured to a group of plastic chairs behind him. The chairs were surrounding a table, and next to that table was another table around which a young man, a bit older-looking than the regular undergraduate student, sat with a tall glass of beer before him. Maamle nodded in understanding too, but remained standing because she was too tired to rest until she was finally inside her room. "O come and sit by me!" This guy who looked like he was just past his mid-twenties spoke to her with such boldness it felt like an instruction she dared not disobey. "Come, come", he repeated although authoritatively, there was something fun about him, and she went to him, happily drawn by that vibe. ♡ ♡ Once Maamle's slender body settled in the plastic chair, his hand were extended almost in her face, "I'm Solomon" A broad smile spread across his firm smooth face, revealing the clean teeth of a man with good oral hygeine. His eyes glistened from either the alcohol, or simply a happy soul excited to make a new friend. "I'm Maamle", she reciprocated with a firm handshake and a smile that was being forced not to come out too bright. In the end, he was a man, and she was a reader who knew all about the game she suspected he would be well-versed in playing. ♡ ♡ With a bit of resistance from Maamle, Solomon got her a drink of her choice to go with her kebab. The time was past 1pm. Maamle's stomach was practically empty as she had had nothing to eat yet, but she still insisted she would have her kebabs to go. In spite of his impeccable skills in pursuation, Solomon could not have his way there -- Maamle was not ready to compromise on her choice to not eat delicious kebabs before a handsome stranger on an empty stomach. She did well however, to take light sips of her drink. Their conversation was fun and light, and when she was a few sips away from finishing her drink and asking to be excused, Solomon rather excused himself, got into the provision shop and came back out with another beer, a drink and a red pack of chocolate cookies decorated with shapes of love. He set the soft drink and cookies before her. "Had to get you this, when I saw it" ♡ ♡ She liked him alot for a guy she was meeting for the first time. In one of her well-hid diaries she had written all about her future dating expectations, and already Solomon had ticked off two of her requirements: handsome and kind. "O you didn't have to" she replied. "No, I had to; it was the perfect opportunity to leave my mark on you". "Your mark?", Maamle asked with a slight frown. "Yes, my mark; I bet you won't meet another guy who will get you such fancy biscuits on the first day" He laughed to himself. It was adorable. She really liked him so she replied, "Well, you are the first to get me such fancy biscuits on the first day-- now I can't help but look out for the next." "Whoa nooo, you are looking out for no next!" They both laughed and it was weird; the good unforgettable kind of weird. ...
