Chapter 16

1789 Words
I’ve been home barely 2 minutes, and my phones keep lighting up. I’ll look at it after I get change in my way too big and comfy PJ’s and remove my makeup. AS much as I like to be pampered and dressed up, there’s nothing like taking off your makeup and bra at night! Finally sitting in my lazy chair, I look over at the time on the clock. It not even 11 pm yet. Kaylee won’t be home for a little while. It gives me time to relax on my own and think about what I want to do about Mathieu. I did end up having fun at the diner. Even though the atmosphere got heavy after I talked about Michael. It actually felt good to talk to Mathieu about him. I have been missing talking to him. We used to tell each other everything before, well, before all that bullshit! I think I might be happy to find my best friend again. Maybe. Getting cozy with my fluffy blanket wrapped around me, I take out my phone and check my messages. 7 messages! And all from Mathieu. Reading them one by one, a small smile creeps up on my face. -I’m so glad you came tonight. -I missed you so much all those years… He’s such a gentleman! It’s sweet. It warms my heart To see this boy, who I’ve known his whole life, be so sweet to my Kaylee. He does know his mother and I would break his legs if he didn’t treat her right. Giving them some privacy, I sit back in my chair and wait for Kaylee to come in. I can hear them through the door. “I had so much fun tonight, thank you!” I hear Kaylee says to him. “I’m happy you did. I was so nervous.” He replies to her. For a moment, neither of them says anything. It’s almost funny knowing they must be looking at each other shyly. “C-can… Can I kiss you?” I hear Alex say, surprising me a bit. I can imagine Kaylee’s reaction perfectly. She must be blushing profusely right now. “Ok” I barely hear her whisper to him. I guess their date must have gone well if it’s ending with a kiss. Hearing the door open and close not too long after, I get up to meet her. I see her, leaning her back to the door, the tip of her fingers over her lips, smiling. “So, how was your date?” I ask her, smiling teasingly at her. “It went good. Really good actually.” She says blushing.  “Want to talk about it?” I ask. “Yeah.” She says, looking like she’s on cloud nine. “Go take a shower, I’ll get everything ready for a late-night girls chat.” While she gets ready, I take out everything we need for our own 'make your own ice cream mix'. I place everything on the coffee table in the living room. I have 2 tubs of vanilla ice cream, a box of chocolate and cream cookies, gummy candies, sprinkles, hazelnut chocolate spread, 2 bars of chocolate with peanut butter, salt and vinegar chip and some cherry soda. Weird mix, but it’s everything we both love. By the time Kaylee’s done showering and putting on her pink and red watermelon PJ’s, I have so many cushions and blankets laying on the floor around the coffee table, it’s almost like being on a cloud. Well, from the look Kaylee still has on her face, she might still be on one! We start by mixing many topping into our ice cream. It tastes so good! There’s nothing like eating junk food and gossiping with your favorite girl. “So, where did you guys go?” I ask her, taking another spoon full if hazelnut spread into my mouth. “We grabbed a bit to eat at The Big D Drive-in. They have the best nacho’s around! They are not cheap with their toppings like other places. Then we went to the movies and he let me pick. I chose that new romance one that I really wanted to see; I still believe. It was so good, mom! You have to go see it! Even Alex cried watching it! “Sounds like a fun night. How much did you too make out at the movies?” I ask, getting a ‘what the hell’ look from Kaylee. “MOM! You can’t ask me that!” She says, appalled by my question. “Why not? It’s a perfectly normal thing to do on a date, Kaylee. “No… We didn’t kiss at the movies.” She says, pouting a bit. “But we did hold hands and I laid my head on his shoulder for a while. We shared a huge bucket of popcorn with extra butter on top.” She says. “What else did you guys do? The movie was over around 10:45. You got here at midnight on the dot.” I ask. “We went for a walk on the beach and talked about everything and nothing. It was so much fun. I mean, I know I’ve known Alex since, forever, and that he’s a nice guy and all, but tonight, he was different. He was so much more, mom. I don’t know how else to describe it, but it was magical! He waited and even asked me if it was ok for him to kiss me when he brought me back home! What teenage boy nowadays asks permission to kiss the girl he’s on a date with?!” She says, throwing her hands in the air. “He was… perfect. Tonight, it really was just the perfect date! I feel so happy, mom. My heart won’t stop beating a million miles an hour.” She says, placing her hand over her heart with a huge smile mon her face. “I’m really happy your date went so well. I would have kicked Alex’s ass if he didn’t treat you right!” I say, making both of us laugh. “What about you mom? You were dressed up pretty sexy too before I left. Did… Did you have anything special planned?” She asks, looking at me from the side. She did notice I was dressed up to go out. “What would you say if I was to tell you I’m thinking about starting to date again?” Turning to face me, Kaylee places her hands on mine. “Mom, as much as I know you loved dad, you can’t stay alone forever. I mean, it’s cool if you wanted to stay alone, but if you wanted to start dating again, it would be ok too. You deserve someone to love you just as much as dad loved you before.” Looking at my beautiful and kind daughter, I feel in aw of her. I can feel the tears prickling at my eyes from the compassion and understanding she just showed me. How am I so blessed to have a daughter like her!? Suddenly perking up, she asks: “Do you already have someone in mind? Oh! Is it that guys from last weekend? The one that came with you when you picked us up at that stupid party?!” She half yells out. A blush a bit. As I’m about to answer her, she jumps up. “Oh MY GOD! It is him! How long have you known him? What’s his name? Does he live around here? Is he nice? Does he…” “Woah! Slow down, sweet pea.  One question at a time, please. Yes, it’s him.” I tell her. I should tell her about him. Maybe not all of it. Now for now. “Yes. It’s that guy from the other weekend. His name is Mathieu Thompson. I’ve known him since I was a little girl actually. He just moved back here a few months ago. He showed up at Lanie’s party. I didn’t know he was back before then.” I tell her. “Holy crap, mom! Where you in love back in high school? Did he ever confess to you? Did you bear his heart?” She gasps.” Did he break yours? Does Nana know him? Did he live close to Nana’s house? Did…”  “Ok, Kaylee, take a breath first, you’ll run out of air. I think we’re going to end this conversation here for tonight.” I say to her, getting up from my seat and starting to pick up the empty bowl on the table. “Come on, mom! You have got to give me some details! Please?!” She says pleadingly “Not tonight sweet-pea. For now, know that I’m only considering it. I have a lot to think about before I actually make the decision to give him a chance or not.” Outing a little, Kaylee gets up and helps me pick up everything in the living room. “Thanks for the girl talk, mom. I love you. Night” She says, yawning. “Anytime BB, I love you too,” I say, giving her a good night kiss. Heading to my bedroom, I lay down and pick up my phone. I notice I have a few mist messages. Sandy- Did you have s*x with him? I bet you did, and he was a beast, need deets! Talk to you tomorrow! ;P What in the world is my friend thinking?! Yes, I haven’t had s*x in over a year, but that does not mean I’m going to jump in bed on the first date! What does she think I am? Lanie- I hope you used protection! :D ;P They must have talked to each other before texting me. In an exasperated sigh, I open the last mist text. It’s from Mathieu. -You know me, I’ll never change for that. I will always worry about you. -Drink something warm before going to bed, it might help not getting sick from all that sugar I’m sure you’ll be eating! :’D -I’m really happy you had fun We should do it again soon, Good night and have fun with your daughter. I close my phone and put it on my nightstand. Laying back in bed, I stare at my ceiling. I need to go for a run in the morning, it will help me clear my mind. It always does. Turning on my side, I close my eyes and try to get some sleep.
