Chapter 7
Not up to weeks, I checked UDUS' ( Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto) Portal that i saw my name as one of those successfully admitted into the university. I was so happy that my phone almost slipped off my hands. "Congratulations, you have been admitted to study Microbiology" I read these word by word. God has answered my prayers. Halima too also got admitted but in a different varsity.
We soon left for our various varsities, we kept in touch as often as we could. 'Dad, Halima seems like a very nice lady, why didn't you ended up with her?' Jordan interrupted. 'Well son, some friendship pays more than relationships, you'll soon understand and besides I and your mum probably wouldn't have given birth to you', I answered.
The novel Corona virus pandemic disrupted the 2019/2020 academic session, and so we were all forced to return back home. I and halima would meet every evening to gist and discuss about life in the university. It was really fun. While discussing one evening, she told me about her new boyfriend. 'So quick? It was barely two months' well this was the thought that crossed my mind, I dare not say it out loud.i wouldn't want to spoil the moment. It was just as if she always wish to have one for herself. 'Congratulation!' I said as I faked a smile.
It was getting to the end of the year, the forced Corona virus break is still on. This time of the year the Seventh Day Adventist Church usually holds it annual camp meeting.
I've been a seventh day Adventist right from the beginning. As the long awaited camp meeting drew nigh, I was so anxious because it was a time that friends and church members around the country would show up, so I'l get to be reunited with old folks, some that I haven't seen since the year, well that wasn't the main aim of the camp meeting, listening to sermons and listening to various melodious songs was the motive of some,as for me I just wanted to hang out with old buddies. Though I had mixed feelings about the camp because the Corona virus had forced it to be held only on a single day, well I didn't mind that much, I'll still get to meet them.
The day soon came, and I dressed to church with my best attire. I always reserve the best for this special occasion. After all the activities ended, it was time for mine to start. The first person I got to see was Joseph, my very good friend, a regular face though. But with him we'll go round the camp ground looking for other friends. Joseph suggested that we go outside the camp ground first before we continue our mission, he led me to a compound owned by another church member, then Lo and behold! I saw someone.
Who was that dad? Was it mum? Jordan asked curiosly. Yes son, it was your mum. Before I finished speaking, I could hear the honk of a car. Mum is back! Jordan echoed as he ran out to welcome his mum & sisters. Before he got to the door, Mitchelle was already running inside and shouting, 'daddy! Daddy! Look what mum bought for me'. It looks good, why not try it on, I said trying to match her joy. Okay dad! I'll be back in a second, Mitchelle said as she hurried up to go get dressed. Before Mitchelle came back, Jordan helped Zoey to carry the foodstuffs they bought. 'Evening dad!' Zoey said as she rushed to hug me on seeing me, leaving Jordan alone to carry the foodstuffs to the kitchen. 'So tell me dear, how was your day' I asked. 'It was great dad, though i was kind of tired, mummy took us to the supermarket to get some foodstuffs and then we proceeded to the boutique to get some new clothes' Zoey answered. Then their mum Zara entered and gave me a warm kiss on my cheek, as she greeted me. I see you girls enjoyed your day, I said as i saw the Happy look on all their faces. 'Enough about us, how did you boys spent your day?' Zara questioned. And before I could answer, Jordan said, 'dad was telling me a story and he was about to talk about you'. Oh! Really, that's interesting, Zara replied. 'Dad continue the story', the children voiced out in unison. 'But you all are tired', I answered as I tried to get their mind of the story. 'No we aren't, I'm I right children?' Zara asked. 'Yes' they chorused once more in unison.
