CHAPTER 7

The sun began to set, casting long shadows across the quiet town as Theo anxiously paced back and forth in their shared apartment. Nadine had been missing for days, leaving behind no trace of her whereabouts. Fear gripped Theo’s heart as he replayed the last conversation they had the night before she vanished.

Nadine had revealed fragments of her dark past, a life filled with danger and uncertainty. She had confided in Theo about Nicholas from her past who posed a threat not only to her, but now, it seemed, to their love as well. He kept her as a s*x slave for five years and was lucky to escape when she did. After escaping she took her sick mother and moved town just to escape him.

As the days turned into weeks, Theo’s worry grew into a gnawing desperation. He scoured the city, searching for any sign of Nadine, but his efforts yielded no results. The weight of the unknown bore heavily on his shoulders, his mind consumed with thoughts of what might have happened to her.

One evening, as Theo sat alone in their apartment, a knock on the door startled him from his thoughts. With a glimmer of hope, he rushed to open it, only to be met with a package left on the doorstep. His heart raced as he tore it open, finding a letter written in Nadine’s familiar handwriting.
