The Grooms’ Little Gift.
Elara. My bridal suite was extravagantly luxurious, with gold and lilac colors decorated all around, lily flowers were neatly arranged in the vases and some petals were thrown to decorate the floor, the same way my bath was mostly filled with lily petals much to my liking but how would I be ungrateful or stop dad from doing what he felt was best for Marcus and I. I can’t say I wasn’t nervous, I was extremely nervous but excited at the same time because I was going to marry the man of my dreams. Marcus and I met in college during my final year. I was 20 and he was 22 years by that time, we were both in business and art class and we just hit it off, he was so caring and attentive to me, he always bought me gifts, helped me with my coursework most times when I was late or feeling sick, he even learnt to cook just to please me, such a charmer! I never really got the chance in the past six years to express to him how I truly felt but I wanted to do it today, tell him how I truly loved him and couldn’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him within the next few hours. I had finished with my makeup and my hair, looking at my self in the mirror, I admired how this $20,000 silk gown felt like second skin and how it glowed on every curve of my body. Gently, I reached for my veil and arranged it on top of my hair for my complete look of the day. Looking at the little present I had in my hands, I toke a long deep breath and hoped he would be excited to have it. Honestly, I was really shaking out of nervousness and anticipation right now. Is this what they call wedding jitters? Taking one final breath, I walked out of my suite to look for Marcus in his and hopefully not get lost along the way. This hotel was over the moon, it had a beautiful interior, much more beautiful than I expected, the hallway had a red thick carpet that felt so soft and warm under my feet, the walls had a mix of modern and ancient paintings that I couldn’t really describe. Yeah, I attended art classes but I wasn’t much of an art person. The rest of the hall way was dimly lit, I think to give the guests a calm, cozy, warm reception and atmosphere with six chandeliers in row all made of glass and candles illuminating the entire hallway but in a fancy like of way. “Rich people.” I rolled my eyes I reached suite number 74, Marcus’ room and gently knocked. A scent of vanilla and mint hit my nose followed by giggles and I couldn’t stop wondering where they came from because I knew that scent belonged to Sarah, my best friend. Bouncing on my feels, I waited for Marcus to let me in but I heard it. His voice Followed with another female giggle. With trembling hands, I needed to make sure the wedding jitters had just gotten the best of me and I was simply hearing random things now so I pushed his suite door open. Then I saw him, kissing and dry humping on my maid of honor. “What is happening here?” I voiced hating how my hands and voice were terribly shaking. “Marcus, what.. what are you doing with my best friend, what.. what is this.?” As much as I hated it, tears had already started streaming down my already made up face. I hated crying infront of people. I hated what was infront of me right now. They suddenly pulled apart when they noticed me. “I thought I was in the wrong suite for a second. But no..that’s my fiancé. And with my best friend.” I was at the verge of passing out. The diamond necklace on my neck suddenly felt heavy, so heavy like a leash choking me. This dress was now too tight for my liking. Fixing his tie, Marcus responded in an annoyed tone “Elara, don’t do the whole scorned woman act, it’s exhausting, we have five hundred people waiting downstairs. Go fix your face.” “Fix my face?, you must be joking Marcus. You’re literally glowing from kissing her, On our wedding day.” Was this man being serious? Was this man even Marcus anymore? I couldn’t control my uneven breathing at this point. “Let’s be adults, you need my family’s name to save your father’s failing business, I need your family’s land for my new development. This was always a transaction. Sarah just happens to be the bonus I actually enjoy.” “Transaction?. All the past six years were a transaction to you Marcus?. How can you be so cruel to me. I gave you my youth, my life. I am even..” “Don’t be dramatic and don’t take it personally El, he is just not into innocent girls. You’re the wife and I am the fun, that’s how it works in the world of commitments and marriage.” Sarah interrupted with a smirk. I wanted to slap that smirk off her face, I badly wanted to make them both feel how painful it was for me. I knew I was a strong girl, but this, this was too much for me. My hand moved to my chest and slowly rubbed it, it was hard to breathe , i knew I wasn’t the perfect girl for Marcus but I didn’t deserve such coldness and betrayal from him. I held onto my small positive pregnancy kit in the gift box like my life depended on it because right now, it did. Suddenly, Marcus came forward, violently got a hold of my hand and tried to push me towards the door. Out of instinct, I pushed him back and stepped as far away from him as I could. Pushing my body to the vanity in the left corner of the room, something heavy and metallic fell down on the floor. It was a pair floral scissors. “Enough!. The priest is waiting. Put on the veil and go wait downstairs!. I don’t care who you cry to tomorrow but today you are becoming a Mrs.” Marcus yelled with a voice full of ice. “You’re right, The Elara you wanted, the one who would do anything for you just to keep the connection and attention, she’s not going to that altar.” I picked up the pair of scissors. Marcus stepped back in horror thinking I was going to attack him. “Elana!” He warned I swept my hand behind my head and picked up the veil along with some hair extensions and cut through them as much as I could, then I lowered to the hem of the gown and cut through it too up to my ankles. “What are you doing? Have you gone mad? That dress cost me a lot of money!. Are you crazy?” Marcus yelled “ I am making sure I don’t fit into your perfect little world anymore. Have a nice wedding and I hope your w***e here gets to enjoy the view in the bonus seat.” I dropped the scissors with a loud thud on the floor and pushed past both of them. I wanted to hide but I didn’t know where to go. That bastard had become my life for the past half a decade. I knew dad, news reporters and the rest of the family were waiting in the church hall, I didn’t care, I had to get out of here. I ran to the nearest exit but accidentally bumped into the church hall. “Elara?” My dad called Shit. I thought this was the exist I could hear my mum, my dad calling my name, the guests gasping and standing up but I didn’t have it in me to stop, I ran towards the main doors, pushed them open and went to hail a taxi to take me to the one man Marcus hated and feared most. “Where to miss?.” “Take me to Vale Enterprises.”
