[CHAPTER TWO: New Students]
[630] Saknoue Calendar year 392 09 25
NEIL’S POV
I closed my book after gazing at the clock. It’s time for school. I checked which books and notes I needed to bring for today’s classes.
I faced the mirror and tidied my uniform, fixed my flutterby collar pin and left my room.
I knocked continuously on my neighbor’s door, Wyre, to wake him up.
“I’m awaakee~”
After hearing his response, I proceeded to leave the dorm building.
‘oh, I need to go to the library first.’
Heading to the library, only a few faculty staff I see pass by the hallways. Well, it’s too early to see students in the campus grounds.
“Good morning young master, Neil Levan, you are early today.” My gaze shifted to Mistress Mona, the librarian. I smiled gently at her.
“Mistress Mona, I always say you don’t need to be formal. I am just a student inside this academy.”
She giggled and faced her floating book and quill she use to record daily borrowed and returned books. She really loves teasing students she gets fond of. I placed the books I borrowed on the ‘return’ basket and looked at the books piled near the librarian’s counter.
“Fine, fine, what brings you here today?” She asked while writing. I turned to look around the huge library of the Academy. Surprisingly, there are few students reading and studying.
“I already finished the books I borrowed. I’m looking for another set of books to read.” I answered,
“Hahahaha, as expected you really love books, young master.” She said while laughing,
“I just enjoy learning about what piques my interest, mistress.” I replied. Mistress Mona shakes her head as she writes in her book. She then told me to try checking out the aisle for the books about the History of the Great Land of Cawayan.
As I walk through the shelves scanning all the book titles nothing seems to catch my eye. However, my sight focused on a book entitled ‘Myths and Legends of Cawayan’. The book is quite dusty; it feels like no one has ever read the book. The design of the cover is an art of the four major elements: fire, wind, earth, and water.
“President. I knew it, you’re here.”
I turned to my back and saw Kiora standing behind me. Kiora Sandoval, the secretary for the student council in which I am the president.
“Morning Kiora, you’re here. Is something going on this early?” I asked her. For her to find me this early there might be something very urgent that came up.
“Not that much of a deal but last night the headmaster handed me some files about students that will come in the next few days.” She gave me a folder of papers. I opened them and read the contents.
“They are new students?” I asked,
“Not quite pres. It is written that they studied here before. They did not also come from another academy.” Kiora answered,
“Are these really blank?” I look at her confused, most parts of the student’s form are blank which is odd because the office of the Lumos Academy demands that every student must fill the form completely.
“That’s what the headmaster gave to me. He looked like he was in a rush to do something and left after giving it to me.”
I walked back to the librarian’s counter to borrow the book I saw and went to the Headmaster’s office immediately.
“Oh, the young master is back. You found a good book?”
I smiled at the librarian and handed her the book.
“There are new students coming here, miss. I need to hear more about them in the headmaster’s office.”
“Oh, you mean those kids? Anyways you look so happy today Kiora, I wonder.”
Kiora just shook her head. I stared at Kiora. She is indeed very cheerful today.
“You know them Mistress?” I asked her,
“Not much but they are good-… kids…”
Mistress Mona suddenly stopped and her gaze was locked on someone walking behind us. I turned my head trying to find who she was looking at but all I saw was a figure dressed in black and white leaving the library.
‘hmm someone she knew perhaps?’
I turned back at her and she still looked shocked.
“Uhm… miss?” She is still fazed and I waved my hand in front of her.
“Ahem… ahh here I- I finished recording your book. Have fun reading.” She nervously said and handed me the book.

“haaah…”
I let out a loud sigh as I sat on my chair inside the classroom after me and Kiora went to the headmaster’s office. Miss Ciara, the headmaster’s secretary said she doesn’t know much about the returning students and the headmaster went somewhere.
‘I guess I’ll just read the papers again.’
Five students. The first two male student’s names, year grade and ability are written along with a picture. While the other one only has a name and year grade. These three are mentioned to arrive today or tomorrow. I looked around the classroom, additional chairs were added inside. Most of my classmates are here yet I don’t see any new faces.
The students’ strengths are measured in tests given as entrance exams or midterms and ranked ranging from A class to C class. Each student's rank will be displayed on the magic stone pin we wear on our uniform collar. The pin design varies depending on the ranks, a Moth for B class, a Caterpillar for C class, and a Flutterby for A class. The pins change their designs on their own if the bearer rises or drops in ranks after the faculty releases the test results. Looking at the added chairs in here, the new students are temporarily placed in A class.
“Yo.”
“Morning,”
“Ey, wassup mister council pres.”
“Good morning.”
I frowned as Denzel, Cypress, Wyre, and Maya entered the room. Kiora bowed and greeted them and they sat down on their own seats. I feel them staring at me for a long time.
“What do you guys need?” I asked them directly. They saw the folder files on my table that have the purple ‘confidential’ stamp on it. Of course they want to read it. A purple confidential stamp means only the faculty and student council are allowed to read it.
“Can we—.”
“No.” I immediately said. Wyre, Denzel, and Cypress look at me with a ‘why’ expression. Kiora giggled from behind.
“Don’t worry, you will meet them soon.” Kiora said while smiling. We all looked at Kiora. It is rare for her to giggle or smile but she did.
‘does she know something?’
I was about to ask her but our professor came.
“Good morning students. Take your seats. We have new students that will join this class. Come in and introduce yourselves.”
Two figures came inside dressed in the academy’s uniform.
“Quentin Morales.”
The one on the left with hazelnut brown hair calmly introduced himself then he moved a few steps away.
“Oliver Morton, pleased to meet ya.”
The one with navy blue hair smiled gleefully as he scanned the whole room. His stare stopped behind me and smiled even more. He waved his hand.
“Kioraa~”
We all looked at Kiora and instead of a happy expression—her face was filled with annoyance. She looked like she was expecting someone earlier.
“Oh, Mr. Morton, you know Miss Sandoval?” Professor asked him.
“Hmm! Kiora is my fianc—/BAM! /”
Oliver was cut off by a sudden ice spear that struck the wall a few centimeters beside his head.
“Don’t. You. Even. Dare. Morton.” Kiora sternly warned him.
Meanwhile, Quentin was not fazed at all about what happened like he knew it was going to happen. Most of our classmates, even the professor, are shocked. It’s the first time we see Kiora lose her cool.
“K-Kiora calm down...” I tried to calm her down. Oliver is still smiling, even winks at someone whose anger keeps getting stronger.
“M-miss Sando-val, ahem- you are not allowed to use your ability during class--.”
“Yes, I know, professor. I volunteer to go to detention myself.” Kiora kept her stare at the person in front while walking to leave the room.
“Ahem, you two take your seats.” The professor spoke.
Quentin moved near the ice spear on the wall and pulled it out. He then smacked it to Oliver’s head before he placed it inside his spatial magic bracelet and faced the professor
“I apologize for what you all just witnessed this day.” He bowed and grabbed Oliver who tried to sit beside Kiora’s seat to the opposite side of the room. As they sat on their chairs we all fell silent.
‘What the hell just happened?’
