Chapter 8: The Journal

382 Words
Akira drove back to her house, her mind racing with thoughts of the journal. She knew that it was the only way to prove to Kaid that she was telling the truth. As she walked into her room, she saw the journal sitting on her nightstand, its cover worn and faded. She opened it, and a flood of memories came back to her. The journal was filled with entries from her mother, detailing the abuse that Akira's father had inflicted on her. There were stories of broken bones, of bruises and scars, of the countless times that Akira's father had hurt her. Akira's eyes welled up with tears as she read through the entries. She had forgotten how bad it had been, how much her father had hurt her. But as she read, she knew that she had to show this to Kaid. She had to make him understand the truth. She drove to Kaid's house, the journal clutched in her hand. She was nervous, but she knew that she had to do this. As she walked up to the door, she took a deep breath. She knocked, and Kaid answered. "Hey," he said, his eyes wary. "Kaid, I need to show you something," Akira said, her voice shaking. Kaid hesitated, but then stepped aside. "Okay." Akira walked in, her heart pounding. She handed Kaid the journal. "This is my mother's journal," she said. "It's the truth about my father's abuse." Kaid took the journal, his eyes scanning the pages. As he read, his expression changed from skepticism to shock. "Akira, I had no idea," he said, his voice filled with regret. Akira felt a wave of relief wash over her. Finally, someone believed her. "Kaid, I'm so sorry," she said, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you sooner." Kaid pulled her into a hug. "Akira, I'm sorry too," he said. "I'm sorry that I didn't believe you sooner." As they hugged, Akira felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that she had finally found someone who believed her, someone who would stand by her no matter what. And as they stood there, holding each other, Akira knew that she would never be alone again. She had Kaid, and she had the truth.
