As they stood there, trying to process the revelation, Joel took Zara's hand. "Let me explain," he said, his eyes locked on hers.
But before he could continue, Alex reappeared, his phone in hand. "We have a problem," he said, his expression grim. "Lindsay's been digging into Joel's past, and she's getting close to the truth."
Zara's eyes widened. "What truth?"
Alex hesitated. "Joel's family secret. The one that could ruin his reputation and destroy his relationship with you."
Joel's grip on Zara's hand tightened. "I have to tell her, Alex. I can't keep it hidden forever."
