“I hate interrupting,” a voice called from behind me, “but what you’re going to find in there is just trash. We already went through it.” Still bent over the dumpster, I turned my head slowly, my breath catching in my throat. What I saw had my heart pounding in my chest as if I had just run a 10-mile marathon. The most beautiful boy I have ever seen. His emerald green eyes almost shining in what light there was. He was tall with long shaggy black as night hair. My eyes were drawn towards him like he was the last man on earth. His breathtakingly defined features staring right back. I was shocked. completely, and utterly shocked. My breath still caught in my throat as I tried to make out my reply. I just stammered like an i***t until I thought better of it and shut my mouth. So instead, I just stared wide-eyed at him. The boy laughed and started toward me. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t move. “I was just checking things out,” I whimpered out “umm… I was looking for something?” When he finally reached me, he gave me a thoughtful look up and down. Then meeting my gaze, he smiled. “So what’s a pretty thing like you doing out here?” He questioned, circling me like I was prey. Oh god, what am I doing? I’m just standing here! I screamed at myself. From behind me he whispered in my ear “Aren’t you scared?” This made me shiver, my body trembling, unsure if it was from fear or pleasure of him being so close. His breath smelt of sweet tobacco and peppermint. His breath, like a warm caressing touch against my neck. Think Bianca think! And that’s what I did. Finally, I remembered what I could do. I smiled to myself, looking up at my harasser's face. “Watch out!” another voice called out from beyond the green-eyed boy in front of me, but it was too late. I have already put my talents to work. Lunging forward, I kicked the boy in the stomach, knocking him down. I instinctively jumped on top of him, grabbing his wrists and holding him down. Looking into his eyes and seeing his fear, I commented, “Aren’t you scared?” He scowled and pushed me with all his strength, throwing me off. I sprung to my feet as fast as he did. Now we were circling each other, calculating the options in my head to stay and fight or run as fast as I could- The boy had somehow got behind me and pinned my arms. He pulled my hood back and my hair sprung out like a wildfire, ready and willing to burn that alley down to the ground. I felt a slight hesitation in his grip and he gave some slack on my arm. Then he knocked my feet out from under me, but I’m not having it now. Now I had to beat him. Rolling over on my back as fast as I could, I kicked his feet out. He fell flat on his back. Jumping up to my feet in the blink of an eye. Running to him as he tried to kick me just as I did to him. I grabbed his foot and twisted, not enough to break, but enough to feel like it. “s**t! He screamed, the pain evident in his voice. “Knock it off and I won't break it.” I replied coldly "I have no desire to hurt you, but I will." “You wouldn’t dare” He questioned me smugly but obviously narrowing his eyes. “Try me”, wriggling my eyebrows and giving his foot a slight twist. A painful gasp escaped his lips. “Okay! Okay! I give! Just please let go, please” I didn’t know how I knew he wouldn’t try anything. I guess you can say I just knew. So, letting go, I stepped back. Three boys ran up to him and pulled him up onto his sore feet. My gaze flicked across the three of them, settling on the fighter. To my surprise, he was grinning and shaking his head. Did I miss the joke? I thought. He finally turned his attention to me and the other boys backed off. “Your good yah know, really good. I thought I had you for a second but I guess you showed me.” He said with a laugh and giving me another awkward up and down stare, “You don’t look it, but you are one good fighter.” “Yeah, well, it comes naturally” I shrugged, hoping it added to the coolness I seemed to have right then. “Not too modest, I see.” he laughed “My name is Dimitri”, saying as he held out his hand. Okay? Is there a reason he’s so…bipolar? But I took his hand anyway and stated “Bianca, my name is Bianca” his hand was burning up and I knew mine must be freezing, but it was comfortable “So…” I said, slipping my hand out of his when I slipped back to reality. After standing there awkwardly for a minute or so, Dimitri motioned behind him to the place where the other boys went. When not two but four boys came back out and stood behind him. “Gang,” he started, “This is Bianca.” I laughed and shook my head and green-eyed Dimitri smiled back. “This is Jacob” he stated, gesturing towards a young boy “He’s powered for speed, and he generally minds his own business”. He laughed “This is Lucas and his brother Rob. They’re powered for-“ Oh jeez, are they all powered? Wouldn’t that be lovely? “Actually we are all powered.” Stated the one named Lucas “And let me guess you have-“ “Mind-reading? Yes your right, my brother and I both have it.” Hmph. I hate mind readers. And I know you heard that, so get out of my head. A small smile crossed Lucas's features. “Anyway, like I was saying, this is Seth. He’s a master persuader.” “Wait! Pull the brakes. Did he, you know-“ persuade me to let you go?” I said in a half-whisper. “No he didn’t, Bianca. So chill” Rob spit with venom. Brushing off his comment, “Oh. Ummm… Hi then guys” I replied, half waving, and they all uttered their ‘hi and heys’. “Well I have to go now. I need to get back to finding my supplies. Thanks for all of this.” I said, waving my arms around me. Then I turned to go. A hand gently grabbed my arm. When I stopped and turned, the hand quickly disappeared, but knew that burning hand, and wasn’t surprised to see Dimitri standing there looking cute. Don’t you dare tell him what I just thought Got it? I snapped in my head and both twins nodded wide eyes at my in-burst. Then I returned my attention to him. Dimitri looked down and rubbed his neck nervously. “Sorry, but I was just wondering if” He paused and meeting my eyes he continued “you have nowhere you’re going tonight... I mean if you want to come stay with us, we have a place, well, a hideout.” I blinked in surprise. It was not what I was expecting from him. I thought about it and made my decision. Going to pick up my bag, I said, “Sure I’d like to hang awhile, and if you try anything I’ll kick all of your asses”. I glared at everyone with a smile tugging at my lips. “We wouldn’t dare,” he glowed.
