Chapter 7: The Buried Truth Awakens

870 Words
The words still echoed in Lyra Vale’s mind. You are the key they buried. Her body felt cold, even though the forest around her was burning with chaos. The creature stood still in front of them, as if it had already said too much. Kael Draven hadn’t moved. But the pressure around him had changed—heavier, darker, more controlled than before. The second man was watching too, unusually silent now. Lyra’s voice broke the tension first. “I don’t understand,” she said sharply. “What key? What are you talking about?” The creature tilted its head. “Your pack did not tell you.” Lyra’s chest tightened. “My pack is gone.” A pause. Then— “That is why you are easier to awaken.” Kael’s eyes narrowed instantly. “Enough.” But the creature ignored him. It took one slow step forward. Lyra didn’t move back this time. Something inside her refused. Not bravery. Not trust. Something deeper. Something responding. The bond scar in her chest pulsed painfully again. She gasped. Kael turned slightly toward her. “What is it?” “I… I don’t know,” she whispered. The second man stepped closer, eyes locked on her reaction. “It’s reacting to her.” Kael snapped his gaze to him. “What are you suggesting?” The second man didn’t answer. Because even he didn’t like the answer forming. The creature smiled again. “You feel it now,” it said to Lyra. “The awakening.” Lyra clenched her fists. “Stop talking in riddles!” A low vibration spread through the ground. The forest shifted. Not physically—but energetically. Something was responding to her presence. Kael felt it too. His aura tightened instantly. “Everyone back.” But Lyra didn’t move. Because something inside her was pulling forward instead. A memory flickered. Not her own. A place she had never seen. A ritual. A circle of wolves. And a voice saying— Hide the key. Break the bond. Make her forget. Lyra stumbled slightly. “What… is that?” she whispered. Kael caught her arm immediately. “Lyra.” She looked at him—really looked at him. For the first time, she noticed something strange in his expression. Not confusion. Not surprise. Recognition. He knew something. The second man noticed it too. His voice lowered. “You know what she is.” Kael didn’t respond. That silence was enough. Lyra pulled her arm back sharply. “You DO know something!” Kael hesitated. That hesitation shattered something inside her. The creature laughed softly. “You were never meant to remember,” it said. “But the bond fracture weakened the seal.” Lyra’s breath hitched. “Seal…?” The creature nodded. “You were sealed at birth.” Silence. Even the forest felt like it stopped moving. Lyra shook her head. “No. That’s impossible.” Kael’s voice was quieter now. “It’s not.” That hit harder than anything else. She turned toward him slowly. “You’re confirming it?” Kael didn’t look away. “Yes.” One word. Enough to break her balance completely. Lyra stepped back. “No…” she whispered. “No, you’re lying. I’m just a rejected Luna. That’s all I am.” The second man spoke softly for the first time. “You were never just that.” Her eyes snapped to him. “And you believe this?” she asked bitterly. He studied her carefully. “I believe your body is reacting to something ancient,” he said. “And that creature didn’t lie.” The forest grew colder. Kael finally released a slow breath. “The mark it mentioned,” he said, “is real.” Lyra’s voice shook. “What mark?” Kael’s eyes darkened slightly. “The one that determines balance between packs.” Lyra’s mind spun. “That’s a myth,” she said quickly. “Not this one,” Kael replied. The creature took another step forward. Kael instantly moved again, blocking it. But this time, the creature didn’t attack. It looked amused. “You are protecting her,” it said to Kael. “Even now.” Kael’s jaw tightened. Lyra noticed. Not just protectiveness. Something more complicated. The second man noticed too. His smile faded slightly. “Interesting,” he muttered. Lyra felt trapped again. Between truth. Between lies. Between two Alphas who both seemed to know more about her than she did. She looked down at her hands. They were shaking. Not from fear. From something else. Her chest pulsed again. Harder. Painful. Suddenly— A surge of energy exploded from her body. Not controlled. Not expected. A shockwave of light pushed outward. Everyone froze. Kael stepped forward instantly. “Lyra!” But the light pushed him back slightly. The creature staggered. Even the second man’s expression changed. Lyra fell to her knees, breathing uneven. “What is happening to me…” she whispered. And in the silence that followed— A voice echoed inside her mind. Not the creature. Not Kael. Not the second man. Something older. Deeper. You are awakening. Lyra’s eyes widened. And for the first time— She was afraid of herself.
